Aguilar(Eagle) translation into French is Aiguille (Needle/Arrow), I believe the triple circles on the double eagle heads is the Trinity, Norse symbol for Trinity. In the north of north America, Canada, where I live, the stones all have the old heraldry still on them, I've even found engraved quartz crystals you can examine for images if you illuminate them with a flashlight. Great channel, you helped me big time. The crown is the Arc of the covenant with the body of Christ, when the stones are placed in the crown of Gold, the stones can vibrate the soft gold, vibrating the head to make proper decisions like a clock runs on piezoelectricity, so do we. (Face and hands) "Leave no stone unturned"
Since french is much modern language than the events considered, there is no such need to distort history to fill your nationalist agenda. Also, french comes from gallo roman not germanic.meaning carolingians are not french, belgians!

It’s wild to see medieval depictions of Rome just looking like medieval Europe, but of course they would. It’s interesting to think about how their perception of the past was shaped by the world of their here and now. They didn’t seem to have the knowledge or come to of different trends of different times the way we do now
It’s a symbol for seeing the light and dark, physical and spiritual, within and without. It’s kind of an occult symbol as not everyone is awake to the true spiritual bodies which cast the shadows we call physical world.
fantastic work. Thank You. I offer a hypothesis of sorts. The followers of "Janus". Pre-Genoese, pre-Roman. Merchants -Portugal to Constantinople and beyond. I think in a larger sense it became associated with "organizations" that offer services and quality known throughout the world's ports. In some cases even borrowed into cultures to exemplify certain qualities and stature. Much like the swastika was long used as a symbol for luck and quality before becoming part of a negative group. This Janus duality double headed symbol combined with the eagle in Rome and the griffin in other areas, birthed a dual headed symbol going forward. These merchants moved into politics and into world domination in shipping and finance. which is why the symbol transcends borders sometimes inexplicably. They say follow the money, in this case follow the silk road and its predecessors. Keep in mind that whomever funds the new king's rise to power cares more for the symbol on the banner than the king himself.
Amazing work, by the way at 1:07:12 - it wasn't Napoleon dissolving the HRE, it was the Habsburgs not trusting the electors and trying to deny Napoleon that title and everything that it implies. Double headed eagles are just an awesome symbol/meme, I reckon for all of humanity during the ages. Its worldwide adoption probably is that simple. Especially after being minted on coins.
People don’t understand just how important symbols are to those in power. They don’t just randomly choose their logos, it is a very expensive and thorough design process to ensure the design expresses the owner’s intent. There is no such thing as coincidence when it comes to symbolism in royal, state, or corporate heraldry and logos.
in modern Greece the double-headed eagle on a yellow background is the flag/seal of the Greek army, it is a flag /symbol of the Greek Orthodox Church and generally something of a national flag, as well as the flag/symbol of the Greek sports clubs AEK and PAOK which have their roots from Constantinople before populations exchange. The double-headed eagle appears in many areas of culture.
Yes these kinds of symbols are much much older than many realize. Though we must always remember symbols are polyvalent, so what they mean changes given different context. We use it in the Orthodox Church to represent the fact that we are monarchists that believe in Church & State being merged etc.

07:00 What do you mean "Bulgarian Tsar"? He was a Vlach Tsar of Cuman origins and his name was Ioan Alexandru not "Ivan Alexander". It is literally written in that manuscript that you showed "ІѠАНЪ АЛЄѮАНдРЪ" and that's a Vlach name. Also at 09:40, the Cantacuzino dynasty wasn't the first to have the double-headed eagle on Romanian territory. The earliest depiction of such eagle in Romania is in the time of Mircea the Great of Wallachia (r. two times from 1386-1394 and 1396-1418). He is depicted with a black double-headed eagle at Cozia Monastery on his clothes while he is also depicted in another fresco with a golden double-headed eagle on his knees. Interestingly, his mother was likely of Byzantine ('Ρωμαίοι) origin; but probably not the reason behind the eagle. It is likely that he had good relationship with the Byzantine Empire and earned the title of "Despot" when he conquered Dobrogea. He also stiled himself as "Ioan Mircea, Great Voievode". Another instance where the double-headed eagle was present is in Principality of Moldavia when the wife of Saint Stephen the Great was buried with a shroud that shows the double-headed eagle. Her name is Maria Asanina Palaiologina with Byzantine-Vlach origins, and she was a Byzantine Princess of Theodoro Principality in Crimea and the reason behind the eagle. The shroud dates to 1477 when she died.

the imperial eagle is the historical example of the "Cool S" we all drew in school. Its universal not for any occult or secretative conspiracy, but because we all universally think those symbols are just plain cool as hell.
I think it also serves an artistic feature. Aside from the head every part of an eagle can be symmetrical, but by adding a second head the eagle becomes completely symmetrical. It also gets rid of a bit of blank space opposite to whichever way the eagle’s head points.

Ok that's it, that did it, best channel on TH-cam right now. I'll take 1 hour videos three times a year this well researched over almost daily 20min videos about things that could be explained in 3 minutes. And this one covered absolutely all of my biggest interests, it's insane: zoology, heraldry, symbolism, byzantines, Spanish empire... It's totally one of those rabbit holes that start with an extremely specific question in my mind have have me opening 30 tabs on my phone that later take me one whole day to go through, the difference being that you actually have the talent to turn that into a wonderful video like this one. Congratulations.
32:04 You were correct to mention the world tree and the double headed eagle on top of it, as it is a mythological concept in turkic culture going back to the shamanistic beliefs. It was considered to be a holy bird, carrying both the attributes of Tughrul and Kongrul, one looking to the east, the other to the west, it was also believed to be the guardian, watching the door to the heavens.
The “allseeing eagle” explanation for the double heads is actually mind blowing to me. I never thought of it that way, but now it makes perfect sense. I agree that it seems like the most likely explanation.
The two headed eagle entity from bactria is the Aryan God Gandaberunda. In the Aryan legends of old he fought a tiger demon and a boar demon representing falsehood and greed . Gandaberunda represents the rise of the humanind to the highest levels of truth in personal and professional life. As an eagle rises to the highest point in the sky so a man's mind must also rise if he seeks liberation from evil.
I’m Iraqi and while watching I remembered our coat of arms which is Eagle of Saladin and I searched to make sure and it turns out the original one on the west wall of the Cairo citadel is speculated to be two headed cus it currently headless or at least that what google told me lol Anyway thanks to you now I’m dreaming of making the coat of arms of Iraq have two heads instead of one not only because of Saladin but because of ancient Mesopotamian ones you should great video btw
Absolutely amazing and entertaining. The double eagle head has just the meaning the bearer wants it to have, as its so old and widespread its original meaning does not matter anymore, just what we do with it. As a Colombian, nice to have the Muiscas and Tunja in the video, but in the voice of Hermione Granger, it's Colombia, not Columbia. Xd
Something of note to mention is that the Holy Roman Emperors actually used a single headed eagle on a golden/yellow field up until around the 1400s when the Habsburgs became emperors and their coat of arms changed to be a double headed eagle instead. I’m not sure what to make of that information but it’s there. Edit: never mind this was addressed in the video
I mention it later on in the vid: full switch to the two-headed eagle for the HRE happened with Sigizmund of Luxembourg, so a bit earlier than the Habsburgs
I have been listening to Joseph Campbell a lot lately, and he delves into the idea that [ALL] Mythology is divided into 2 distinct paths, or ends. He calls them , "the left [hand] and the right [hand] path...". Where [y]our mind might coercively, and obediently, jump to the conclusion that THAT means "good v evil", to remain "normal" (in the 1939 Webster's Dictionary sense of "normal": to conform to a type or a standard"), but Campbell emphasizes repeatedly how inferior, self destructive, and diseased "dualistic" psychological planes of existence are to the bliss of life. One path is where YOU "leave" your group to "get" them something they never even knew they could have access to, let alone use, and even more than that, modify. Which scares them cause it takes a lot of energy to maintain "normal", wherever we are. So they sense utter failure and revolt, as such is how they ARE PERCEIVED thus as they so PERCEIVE themselves to be. "Original Sin", and all that. The other path is where you "leave" to... STOP BEING "normal", and kinda learn how to redirect all that "normalizing" energy you used into experiencing the bliss of life... as it is. But, I REALLY like the church and state explanation. I think the Freemasons in this context. To me, based on Lectures of the Arya, by Pike, Aryan Majesty... well, is kinda, or pretty much, summed up in the imagery of The Doubleheaded Eagle. "The "Aryan Majesty" is evidently the Aryan power or state, political, social and religious. It is simply the Aryan greatness and supremacy. ... For the infidels whom it conquers are creatures..., even, as these make it unprosperous, the annihilation of the sickness was necessary to the existence of the majesty. The existence of one involved the annihilation of the other..... "You hardly utter a sentence of our Romance tongue, without speaking some word which was spoken in the same sense by that ancient people, ten thousand years ago or more, in the mountain-valleys which they first inhabited. You have their idiosyncrasies of thought, the same indelible characteristics of race; for you are their descendants. From them you have your excellencies & your faults, your energy, your vigor of intellect, your philosophical cast of thought, your indomitable resolution, your persistent pursuit of the object you desire to attain; from them the religious leanings & inclinations of your minds; from them your social institutions & relations, & the foundation-stones of your laws, customs, habits; from them all your philosophical & religious doctrines. They were white men, as we are, the superior race in intellect, in manliness, the governing race of the world, the conquering race of all the races. They called themselves Arya, the Aryans, the Warlike, or, some think, the Noble. " [Lectures of the Arya, Albert Pike, 1930, Lecture One: The Aryan Race]
The quote at 55:50 is missing important context. The Pope made this statement as a response to the expropriation of the title Universal Bishop by Bishop John the Faster, the patriarch of Constantinople, who proclaimed himself Universal Bishop at the Synod of Constantinople in 588. Gregory condemned the patriarch's act because universal jurisdiction applies solely to the pope
Shocking historical fact: Mehmet 2nd was a 3d cousin once removed to Constantine Xi last emperor of the Roman empire 😱😨 Theodora Kantakouzene (Greek: Θεοδώρα Καντακουζηνή; c. 1330 - c. 1396, called also Theodora Hatun) was a Byzantine princess, the daughter of Emperor John VI Kantakouzenos and the second legal wife of the Ottoman Sultan Orhan Gazi. The relationship between Mehmed II and Constantine XI, given their shared ancestry through John VI Kantakouzenos, is somewhat distant and complex. Here's a simplified breakdown: John VI Kantakouzenos is the common ancestor. Theodora Kantakouzene is John VI's daughter and Mehmed II's great-grandmother. Helena Kantakouzene is John VI's daughter and Constantine XI's grandmother. In terms of specific terminology: Mehmed II and Constantine XI would be something akin to "third cousins" because they share a great-great-grandfather (John VI Kantakouzenos). More precisely: Mehmed II is a great-grandson of John VI through Theodora. Constantine XI is a great-great-grandson of John VI through Helena. In this case, the relationship could be described as "third cousins" or more specifically "third cousins once removed" due to the generational difference. that connection is indeed fascinating. The intertwining of Byzantine and Ottoman lineages adds a remarkable dimension to the historical events surrounding the fall of Constantinople. Here is a simplified outline of their connection: John VI Kantakouzenos (Theodora Kantakouzene's father and Byzantine Emperor) Theodora Kantakouzene (John VI's daughter, married to Sultan Orhan I) Şehzade Halil (Theodora and Orhan I's son) Mehmed II (Grandson of Orhan I, through another lineage, but influenced by the shared familial ties) Simultaneously: John VI Kantakouzenos (Ancestor of Constantine XI) Helena Kantakouzene (John VI's daughter, sister of Theodora, married to John V Palaiologos) Manuel II Palaiologos (Son of John V and Helena) Constantine XI Palaiologos (Son of Manuel II, the last Byzantine Emperor) This intricate web of familial ties underscores the complex and often intertwined nature of dynastic politics in the medieval period. Yes, Theodora Kantakouzene's father, John VI Kantakouzenos, was an ancestor of Constantine XI Palaiologos, the last Byzantine emperor. Here's the lineage: John VI Kantakouzenos: Theodora's father, who was Byzantine Emperor from 1347 to 1354. Helena Kantakouzene: John VI's daughter (and Theodora's sister), married John V Palaiologos. Manuel II Palaiologos: Son of John V Palaiologos and Helena Kantakouzene. Constantine XI Palaiologos: Son of Manuel II Palaiologos and the last Byzantine Emperor. This makes John VI Kantakouzenos the great-grandfather of Constantine XI Palaiologos. Thus, Theodora Kantakouzene was the great-aunt of Constantine XI.

You were correct to mention the world tree and the double headed eagle on top of it, as it is a mythological concept in turkic culture going back to the shamanistic beliefs.
"Allseeing" makes it even more obvious, if you are an aware person.
I’m Iraqi and while watching I remembered our coat of arms which is Eagle of Saladin and I searched to make sure and it turns out the original one on the west wall of the Cairo citadel is speculated to be two headed cus it currently headless or at least that what google told me lol
Anyway thanks to you now I’m dreaming of making the coat of arms of Iraq have two heads instead of one not only because of Saladin but because of ancient Mesopotamian ones you should great video btw
Also the double-headed eagle has already been a symbol of communities and royal houses before it became an official symbol of the HRE.

I recommend making a video or series on the Ostrogothic Kingdom, or just the Ostrogoths in general
Don't worry guys, he was looking for the sticky note that has the channel password written on it
It's hard to remember Ceasar4Ever
So all the nobles and wealthy men just saw the double headed eagle and said "f*ck yeah" and started using it. Based
The double-headed Eagle appears to be a variant of the All-Seeing Eye.
[Lectures of the Arya, Albert Pike, 1930, Lecture One: The Aryan Race]
One of the better Rome-focused channels out there, glad to see you back
The quote at 55:50 is missing important context.
2:57 German Patrician? What in the world is that?
Dinastija Nemanjić, Srbija.
"Known primarily as the symbol of Russia"
Naw, known universally as the symbol of the Imperium.
Shocking historical fact:
Mehmet 2nd was a 3d cousin once removed to Constantine Xi last emperor of the Roman empire 😱😨
Theodora Kantakouzene (Greek: Θεοδώρα Καντακουζηνή; c.
Here's a simplified breakdown:
John VI Kantakouzenos is the common ancestor.
Theodora Kantakouzene is John VI's daughter and Mehmed II's great-grandmother.
Helena Kantakouzene is John VI's daughter and Constantine XI's grandmother.
In terms of specific terminology:
Mehmed II and Constantine XI would be something akin to "third cousins" because they share a great-great-grandfather (John VI Kantakouzenos).
More precisely:
Mehmed II is a great-grandson of John VI through Theodora.
Here is a simplified outline of their connection:
John VI Kantakouzenos (Theodora Kantakouzene's father and Byzantine Emperor)
Theodora Kantakouzene (John VI's daughter, married to Sultan Orhan I)
Şehzade Halil (Theodora and Orhan I's son)
Mehmed II (Grandson of Orhan I, through another lineage, but influenced by the shared familial ties)
Simultaneously:
John VI Kantakouzenos (Ancestor of Constantine XI)
Helena Kantakouzene (John VI's daughter, sister of Theodora, married to John V Palaiologos)
Manuel II Palaiologos (Son of John V and Helena)
Constantine XI Palaiologos (Son of Manuel II, the last Byzantine Emperor)
This intricate web of familial ties underscores the complex and often intertwined nature of dynastic politics in the medieval period.
Yes, Theodora Kantakouzene's father, John VI Kantakouzenos, was an ancestor of Constantine XI Palaiologos, the last Byzantine emperor. Here's the lineage:
John VI Kantakouzenos: Theodora's father, who was Byzantine Emperor from 1347 to 1354.
Is evident than both religions muslim and cristians are the remain of the roman empire, including food, culture and traditions, filled by nationalist agendas
Big thanks to both of you.
I've understood the trans-state characteristic of ruling elites (and all that that entails) for some time.
But I'm still learning 👍
This is less of a video and more of a presentation on a bachelor/master thesis. Is this it, by any chance?
No, I'm just too autistic to drop a topic if there's some more information I can add
This may be your finest video
Four eyes explains a single minded geek, two heads explaines government, and the eagle explains the power government has on the weak, done.
I remember Turkish and Iranian scholars using the east and west explanation for the meaning of the Seljuk double headed eagle and I think that may be worth looking into. Also this video was very impressive, well done.
I am also aware of this explanation among German scholars for the double-headed eagle of the HRE.
Not ashamed to admit that I did a soyface when I saw that you uploaded a new video!
I just think people do it because it’s symmetrical.
And maybe we’re keeping in mind that principal that an Eagle with his wings turned up is actually a phoenix, or isn’t act of being a phoenix as far as the characteristics qualities marked noted or stamped there on.
What a wonderful deep dive toward one of the iconic symbols
10/10 video, severely underrated channel
I would think its a symbol of duelality
"The Alcohol Market Regulation Service eagle holds the rod of Dionysus" is my favorite sentence.
😅 🥂
Lima's flag is a two-headed eagle. Symbol of the HRE since it whas under Charles's rule that the city was founded as the capital of Peru.
No, it was not founded by charles, but by frances d arago i gurmea( prince ferran cortes) since there is nothing in felipist castilian or modern day spanish , they just took over the catalans and their trade routes. It is also a shame that the language of the hitler of 16 century( phillip) is still spoken by 800/900 million, when the times of inquisition and impostion are over, suposedly.
@@xavisanchez7522 take your information somewhere where you'll be appreciated, it's not here, all you do is insult other nationalities and countries in ignorance
I read a while ago that 80% of the ancient world's knowledge arrived in Western Medieval Europe because of the Byzantine Empire. Is that true?
The two-headed eagle on a gold shield is my family crest.
Splendid job sir. I really enjoyed this video:)
