They can only work with what they're told and get. They have a hundred other clients this month and 0 time for a guy who wants to lie to them.

Congratulations! I lost both parents and three brothers to alcohol and prescription & illegal drug use. My entire family. It devastated me to have to cut them out of my life because of all their addictions. I was always afraid something they’d do would cause me to lose my nursing license. All of them died between 51 and 52 years of age. And I’ve seen from years in critical care the devastation addiction causes. Spent one New Year’s Eve with my entire ICU filled with people going through DTs. Awful!
I’m a former heroin addict and I’ve been clean for 4 years May 2024. I now counsel addicts and I truly believe that getting clean from drinking is the hardest drug/intoxicant to get clean from. Number one bc the withdrawals can kill you and other than benzos I think it’s the only one that has that issue. Number two bc I’ve yet to see heroin when I walk into a grocery store, 7-11, etc and everywhere you go you see alcohol so it’s a lot easier to get your hands on. Congrats on your sobriety. I know how hard it is and truly applaud anyone who has put in the time/effort to change their lives for the best.

Just to be clear, Robitussin does NOT have alcohol in it. Even Nyquil's alcohol content is not an active ingredient and only used to dissolve other active ingredients. It's not the ingredient that causes sleepiness either.
The ability to smile, laugh and continue with the next case is absolutely incredible. To keep cases separate and not drag that baggage with you to the next case or even home is just remarkable. Nobody is perfect and I'm sure a happy dog or crying baby wouldn't be the best way to arrive home, but overall, these judges are remarkable.

No, she isn't. Her job is to fight for her client, whether she believes him or not. He told her he did not drink those days, and her job is to relay that to the judge and try her best, regardless of how obvious it is, to get him the lightest repercussions possible. I'm sure she advised him against saying it in private, but it's his defense, not hers. She's not good or horrible here. She just "is".

Every trial attorney in that county knows the 'cough syrup' defense will not work with judge Simpson. I don't care if you're a public defender or a paid legal defense attorney the moment your client starts playing games it is your job to ADVISE him what to do and not to do. At a minimum should've asked for a brief recess to reset her client and she failed. And before anyone says the criminal messed-up, of course they do that's why they shouldn't represent themselves which is essentially what he ended up doing when his attorney didn't properly prepare, or step-in to stop the second everyone knew a remand was coming.
