Thank you! Just a tip, I would go for a 20 vol or 30 vol developer. 40 vol isn’t necessary, but I was inexperienced at the time!

SN: Clairol also has a hair color line for dark hair: Clairol Flare Me Dark. I use the color Plum Away With Me, and it's amazing... Make sure that you apply the dye on a well ventilated room though... The smell is STRONG!! 🤣🤦🏽♀️
heads up 40 developer is very strong plus you used shower caps which can make it damage you hair a little more (i think don't quote me) next time use 20-30 it'll still work and youll have less damage
but it came out really nice so idk im just a 17 year old behind a computer

frizzeecurlz My ends weren’t as red as I wanted and I used bleach! lol I forgot my hair was previously dyed red and hadn’t fully grown out so my hair wasn’t virgin which is probably why it didn’t take like yours did but I’m going to dye it again once I find a 30 developer, hopefully it’ll lift the color and take the red much better this time around. I’ll check out your other videos tho 💜✨

I did a very similar video to this about 8 years ago ( I'm an old head lol) #OGNatural it was probably the first video of its kind the quality sucked but some how it was what people wanted to see and it is the highest viewed video on my channel to date. I see in a previous response you said you sealed your hair the second time around, curious how did you accomplish it and did it make a difference for the color lasting ?
njohns32 I used ion's 'After-color sealer' packets the second time I dyed my hair and I definitely noticed a difference. My hair is still the same color as when I dyed it the 2nd time. When I didn't seal it the 1st time, I noticed the color fading faster (which is why I wanted to dye it again). Hope this helped
Im planning on dying my hair red using the Loreal Hicolor! How long did it last you until it started to fade? Once it starts fading, if I wanted to go back to my natural color would it fade all the way eventually or would I just have to dye over it a dark brown? Also, any tips on minimizing damage to curls like if you did any moisturizing or protein treatments at home or any specific leave in conditioners or styling products you used daily? Thanks so much :)
This lasted 2 years before I completely changed my hair color again, but it did fade to a brownish-burgundy color over time. This is permanent, so your hair color will not automatically come back and you will have to re-dye it (use Adore Creative Image or Kiss Colors to re-dye with NO ADDED DEVELOPERS). I also make sure I deep condition my hair to minimize breakage. Hope this helped!

Yes, you will probably only see the color in bright lighting using 10 vol, but I'm sure it depends on how long you leave it on your hair also.

Yes maam! 20 volume developer is for people who have lighter hair. I'm not sure how long 20 vol. developer needs to stay on your hair, but just do a little research if you want to do this on your own❤️

When the red color fades your hair look again dark or they’re quite light (like bleach phase)
You can see how my hair has changed after dying it in each video I post, but my hair doesn’t get light like bleach phase
So is magenta a more lighter color and red is just like a burgundy color?
magenta is more of a purple-ish pink-ish color and red is just red

Will this be a permanent hair color or will it wash out and fade after a few washes?
It is permanent. When washing, the dye does rinse, but it hasn't faded my color as far as I can tell. Check out my latest video to see my hair in its natural state since dying my hair
So I just need to accept the fact that I gotta use a high level developer. Tell me why i used this dye with 10 volume because I was scared to use anything higher and my hair didn’t take AT ALL😂. It has some slight red tips but nothing major. I’m gonna do it again tomorrow and use 30 volume developer
Lmaoo yeah 20 or 30 should be fine. I only used 40 because i was inexperienced and thought since my hair was black that I needed that level, but 30 is probably the max I’ll do again
10 does do much 20 open the cuticles alright and 30 opens it enough. 40 isn't necessary at all for anyone colouring at home.

DO you have to use the developer? What would happen if you didn't use the developer?
I don't believe you absolutely have to, but developer helps lift your natural hair color if it's dark. I would assume the color would still take if you don't use any, but it may just be a tint

Thank you! I haven’t experienced damage with this process (only maybe a looser curl pattern, but not much)
& it lasts depending how often you’re washing your hair. I wash my hair about 1-2 times a month, so it lasts a while, but dye will always fade over time

When you dye your hair at all you will experience bleeding, but I don't recall it being that bad when I did this :)

So my classmates colored my hair this color one time and it did not turn out right. It did not change the color of my hair. After she got finished we found out we was suppose to lighten my hair first then put the color on it. My sister in law wants burgundy highlights i told her she is going to have to get her hair lighten first. So r u sure this didnt have bleach already in it?
The developer has hydrogen peroxide in it which is a bleaching agent that lifts the hair and if I'm not mistaking, the box dye contains its own levels of bleach/lifter (read box for more). BUT if you check out my newer hair dying videos, you'll see exactly what I do now because I don't do this method anymore :)

RaKaya Turner I would say 6-8 months (of red) it turned brownish/copper after a while
I also don't wash my hair often, so that helps with the dye lasting a lot longer

Kayla Watson my hair is actually really soft; softer than its ever been since dying it. (I've dyed it one time after this video). As for my curl pattern, I would say my curls got a tad bit looser and my hair doesn't feel as course as it did when it was black, which I actually love

I would say no, but I never experimented with grey. I got my dye from sally's so one of the beauty consultants will let you know what would work best. Hope this helped :)

Sorry for the delay, but this was a permanent box dye. It lasted for roughly 2 years, but it did fade to a brownish-burgundy color.

Diane V Wright developer is peroxide. 10 developer=1% peroxide, 20 developer=2% peroxide, and so on... Bleach is in a powder state and added to developer to bleach hair.
I was going to use 20% developer with my adore magenta color to lighten the front portion of my hair but I'm not sure how to use it. From your video, just add equal amounts, mix, apply and let sit before rinsing, correct???

Mine faded a bit, but not too much. I recently dyed it again (the same color) and it's brighter now, so I'll see how much it fades from now. In this video I didn't seal the color in my hair, but I did when I recently dyed it.
Mines faded. I colored my whole head, once it all faded I ended up having blonde tips lol. Every time I washed my hair or got it wet, my shirt, nails, and pillows were red from the color lol
Jpryme That’s probably because you bleached it blonde & put a rinse over it. That happened to me one day in high school. It was red splashes all over my white shirt because I was sweating 😩 don’t use the powder just use the developer & a permanent hair dye & it shouldn’t do that.
