To be fair, his father was basically forced to sleep with Merope because she was using love potions on him. He only ran away as soon as the potions wore off, so Merope is really to blame here.

Actually, Tom found his father and grandparents who lives at the top of a hill on a grand house, Riddle manor. They were country squires, the Riddles, muggles and rich. Tom went straight where they were having dinner and killed the three of them. But before that, he went to his mother´s house, were he found his uncle Morphin. He took his wand and used it in the murder of the Riddles to frame him and used his Legilimency magic mind, to create memories of him killing the Riddles so he would be accused of the crime. Actually his father just left after Merope stopped feeding him the love potion. Tom Senior was a victim of kidnaping, being drugged and raped. As soon as he regained his true mind, he flew away, in terror. I supose he never recovered, never re married, never dated another woman again, living with his parents at the age of 38? He´s better off dead. xD

I feel that young Tom Riddle took much more time and pleasure in the killing of his muggle bloodline than this. He didn't care why or how his mother had been able to procreate with his father. He decided to eliminate his connection to them. His father. His grandfather. His grandmother.

Merope drugged and raped Tom Sr., and he rightfully left when he broke free of her drugs. Merope was not a victim of abandonment, she was a kidnapper and a rapist do not feel for her.
