I own this keyboard, wasn't expecting anything too fancy but it blew me away with its weight and how nice it feels to use. For all the effort behind this, it speaks for itself on quality. You do not feel you are short changed. You put this down on a flat desk, it is not going anywhere. And a shout out to the space saving packaging. Bought for the branding, stayed for quality.
Yes exactly my thoughts. I need another keyboard as is. I only buy quality cherry switch keyboards. Now I can have one with the Amiga keys marked for use in WinUAE/FSUAE? SOLD. And yes, it helps Amiga retro developers.
I wanted this keyboard for a long time to use with my Pi. All the time I was hoping for a price around 100 euro's, but 181 pounds (204 euro) (that's incl 24 pounds to have the US keys and 16 pounds shipping to the Netherlands) slapped me right in the face. I hate to skip this one, but massive respect for the creator and his passion for making this. Amigaaaa!!
Had my Amiga keyboard for about a month now, and it's faultless. I'd go so far as to say it's the best mechanical keyboard I've ever used, and I've had many over the years.
This is a must buy for me! The Amiga was so amazing and i have never stopped playing mine. It has an amazing library and many incredibly good exclusive games and also covers most arcade classics from the early 80's too.
Since it's a custom keyboard with a custom PCB, much more could have been done to make it 'Amiga' while keeping it compatible with modern workflows. A shame really, because some innovation would have made it a more authentic addition to the Amiga family. As it is, it really is just a branded mechanical keyboard.
I think that a lot of us are like that. We're the same age and I'm similar (especially with my corona kilo's - I was getting buff before it started but now look like Mr Blobby).
Many are, I'm very introverted, I don't mind parties, but I'm not going to them just like that either. :) Filming is probably fine, but I totally understand he's not fond of it and that should always be respected.
I own this keyboard. It is well built and the switches are mounted to a heavy metal plate making this thing very durable. It will last years. You *are* paying slightly more than other keyboards that have a similar price range that may also include RGB or other features, but.. you are getting something a little bit special here, and rare.
Congratulations on the wedding Neil! I hope you enjoy yourselves on the honeymoon. Have a fantastic time, can’t wait to see what you have in store for us in 2023!
6:40 - I've got a keyboard with cherry brown for work, and one with cherry blue for home. The clickiness of the blue switches is so much more satisfying though, aurally and physically. but the browns are a good compromise for work as they're quiet and still nice to type on
Just when you think you've seen everything on You, you give us a keyboard ASMR segment 🤣 What splendid forward thinking to leave the space for PS/2 connectivity. I wish you'd given a test run on the A500 mini though 😉
From what you described of it's feel and it's sound, it looks to have the same fantastic build quality as my Filco Majestouch 2 with Cherry MX black keyswitches and the Filco spherical double shot keycaps. Really great keyboard for the Amiga community. From the website, there's even a conversion kit to get it working with an Amiga 1000! A good keyboard isn't just for Christmas, it's for life. (Congratulations on the marriage and honeymoon!)
I don't mind for the most part that they used a modern keyboard design and keys. The only shame is the Caps Lock button not having the LED indicator on the key. Hope this does well though.
I was thinking exactly the same. I imagine the cost would be prohibitive for something a bit niche though, I've been looking for my own projects and introducing the window inflates the price far more than I expected.
I think it's cherry MX brown switches. I *asssume* it's based on a particular Amiga keyboard. There were some Amiga keyboards (A2000?) that did use cherry switches, I think, though threre's actually quite a variety of Amiga keyboards when you take into account all the models and variances within models. It's fairly expensive, but price wise it's in the right ballpark for a decent mechanical keyboard.
You can buy some really nice mechanical keyboards for less than £140. Really you're just paying for the Amiga branding here, but then there's nothing about the keyboard that screams 'Amiga' to me. The colours are off, the keycaps don't look the right shape. If you put tape over the Amiga logo in the corner I don't think I'd identify that this was supposed to be an Amiga product. So no, I don't think I'll be getting one unless the price comes down by at least 50%. Shame.
That was exactly my thoughts too. At the price point it had to at least be the right colour. To little attention to detail here for me. Oh it comes with a "Help" keycap? Yeah but all the keys, literally all of them are the wrong colour and the only way the casing looks Amiga coloured is if the Amiga is yellowed....
@@thebaldconvict seems like it was colour matched to the creator’s own Amiga for better and for worse, some of the ones in the cave are close in some regards but only one aspect at a time
I like the sound of this keyboard. It would be tempting to do an Amiga themed build if only there was an ATX compatible case to match. Unfortunately, as far as I am aware, the only case that would match is the A1500plus which is quite limiting where it comes to GPU support. £140 is a fair chunk of change, it puts this keyboard up against the higher mid-range keyboards from the mainstream manufacturers (essentially on par with a Ducky One 3 or Corsair K70) so it is not unreasonable in terms of a keyboard featuring Cherry MX Brown switches.
It looks nice and would be great to have for my A500 mini but £140 is a bit much. The one i use on my mini which is close to an Amiga keyboard is a Perixx Periboard-106 beige although i like to get 2 Amiga A keys to replace the Windows logo keys
Thanks for this review. Nice to have a very dapper gent review retro stuff (very elegant)! Gonna be expensive to get it here (shipping...) but plans are a brewin' in me old brain for a nice MiSTer build. Now if only someone would build a A1000 clone case (with keyboard garage) for a MiSTer ... Nirvana! Cheers from Canada!
The keyboard looks amazing, we need more of this in the keeb world, no leds, no worry switches (yes i know, not that smooth and i hate brown switches myself, but cherry are trust worthy, never had a single issue with their switches), pbt keycaps sub dye too and its beautiful, love the keycaps, very clean. Damn, nice keyboard, they should try and commercialize this keyboard more, no rgb is already a big plus.
It's like the Amiga version of a Unicomp, which is basically a modern IBM Model M. Even never having been an Amiga user, this keyboard would be interesting to me if it offered media control keys and version that reverses the "A" and Alt keys for better Mac compatibility. My #1 choice for a Mac-compatible and Mac-friendly mechanical keyboard is actually the Matias Tactile Pro, which has ALPS-style switches, media control keys, full Mac compatibility (macOS doesn't ask you to identify it when first connected), and even a built-in USB hub like Apple's wired keyboards have. I would consider a crossgrade to this one if it offered at least the right key layout and the media control keys. Oh, and I would like to see that Acorn version become a reality! Wasn't Acorn the original ARM-based PC? That would be even more fitting on a Mac since the Mac is now also using ARM-based CPUs. 😊
It looks really great, and made with quality. I can't wait to see what other styles they come out with! A ZX Spectrum might be cool, with all the BASIC labels on the keys, and a BBC Micro would look nice with a black top, cream sides, and a row of orange function keys.
The F-keys can't match, as PC keyboards have 12 function keys, (in 3 groups of 4) whereas the Amiga keyboards only have 10 function keys (in 2 groups of 5). Fortunately, that missing "Help" key can go on F11 or F12, as the Amiga has no use for F11 and F12.
When testing the sound of long keys you have to tap on the sides to hear the quality of the stabilizers, which are pretty important for the overall experience (particularly the space bar which is constantly used).
I love this and have never been more tempted to buy a mechanical keyboard than I am now. The irony for me is, the kickstarter that failed was for cheaper membrane versions. That would be more my cup of tea because I'm cheap 🤣
Happy New Year! I hope you had a nice break over Christmas and all is well. Enjoy your honeymoon next week. Look forward to more videos when you get back :). Have fun!
The colour looks a bit off to me, might be the video though. I always remember the Amiga beige having a reddish brown tint. Would have looked nice with a colour tick next to the Amiga logo as well
Brown switches are my favourite, one of the quietest and really hard wearing. Also helps that I'm a gorilla when I type and smash my keys a little too hard sometimes :P
I have a Keychron C2 which has a retro look (similar color scheme) and only for $50, it was one of my favorite purchases in the recent times. It feels great to type on this thing!
I can't afford the price at the moment (£198 after shipping and tax) but if I get one later I will try to make my 3D printable Amiga wedge fit it inside after the plastic casing is removed.
With a native Amiga 4000 cable I could definitely justify the purchase, however having to use a USB converter is a show stopper. I know it shouldn't matter... but. However, to use with a WinUAE setup it's pretty cool.
When this FINALLY comes out, it along with the USB Tank mouse, and the Drawbridge floppy adaptor (allows for self contained usb slimline floppy drive for Amiga emulators) we will finally have the full physical reproduction for emulations!! Ahhh!!! Or using with real Amigas via a usb adaptor or add on port. :)
You can buy the Amiga Tank mouse, either as part of the A500 Mini, or separately. I know that Game sells them. The Drawbridge adaptor is also out too, or at least the 'waiting list' is being worked through. I've received mine, but haven't had the chance to fit it yet.
I'm not sure if the shy maker might show up in these comments, but just in case: What's the Func LED for? What does this weigh in grams? What plastic is this made from? Can a PS/2 cable kit be purchased later? Might there also be an AT cable (w/o external PS/2-to-AT adapter)? Is XT compatibility being considered? I was never a big Amiga guy but might consider this just for being a good standard PC keyboard. Every other keyboard seems to have extra unwanted features. That this doesn't have that is kind of a plus. But there are also extra features I might actually want: Is there any way to get custom-labelled key caps on the existing physical layout (UK ISO)? I might be interested in key caps matching a particular layout WITH all the AltGr and Shift+AltGr characters printed on the key caps also, possibly in a different colour. What would be the cost if that's even possible? Are extra keys for other physical layouts an option? E.g. Japanese has extra keys.
Which Amiga does this plug in to? Won't work on the 2000, 3000 or 4000. As Neil said, it's just a PC keyboard with Amiga branding. Overall it looks great and the brown keyboard switches is nice and quiet. I like it ! :)

@@peterbelanger4094 Well I was certainly alive. I actually received my A1200 for Christmas in 93, mere months before the big C went belly up. I had a C64 before that. You've turned into an old cynic! Not that that's a bad thing mind.
It’s kinda funny to hear MX Browns called loud! I know they’re loudER than rubber ones but compared to other switches like Alps they’re closer to rubber!
Yes, I'd like to know how it compares to the Hi-Tek "Space Invader" keyboard on my A500. Those are a constant pressure all the way down. I've never used a Cherry one, but from what I've read the brown ones have a bumpy feel, and the black or red ones seem more like the A500 smooth feel I love so much.
It is hard to find a keyboard nowadays that does not look like a fun fair. Last year I bought one from Ducky, but if I still was searching for a simple keyboard, this definitely would be an option!
CONGRATULATIONS!!! 🥳🥳🎉🎉🥳🥳 As someone who will be celebrating his 18th (JOYOUS) anniversary soon: NEVER take your spouse for granted, lean into each others likes and dislikes as you will find some wonderous journeys contained within! Marriage is the ULTIMATE adventure game 😆😆
While it is an awesome product and cool that someone does these kind of things, I feel like for that price and hustle, getting the Amiga approval and so on, it would have been great to go the extra mile and at least get the colours right, and the keycaps right. Also it doesn't sound like the switches are lubed and it is very clack'y.
Thing with Cherry is that for many years they hadn't been taking the keyboard enthusiast business seriously and got really stale with their products and i don't know if true but heard the quality started slipping too. Chinese manufacturers like Kailhua captured the market based on producing larger selection of products and innovating with new designs at often decent if varying quality, they also make silent varieties with rubber bumpers on both the down- and the up-stroke. Of course there's a whole bunch of manufacturers in China now, a number of them compete purely on cost with no quality or other ambitions. Recently Cherry has been having a bit of a resurgence. That being said brown is the sort of switch which many keyboard enthusiasts point at and say "this is what's wrong with Cherry" but i can't say it doesn't have a use, i think it's fine.
I don't do well on camera or in phone calls either. Fine in "real life" but there's something about being under a microscope that is just deeply uncomfortable. The keyboard looks great, though £140 is very steep for what is essentially a novelty.
I understand it doesn't have one for better authenticity but I wished it would have had a metal faceplate or a metal frame even. I think you can see some flex already in the video even if it seems sturdy otherwise.
Hi Neil, Do you have any 48K ZX Spectrums that need a case and nice Mechanical Keyboard ? I would like to return the favor of the Mister Multisystem unit by sending a mechtrum if you can make use of it ?

@@peterbelanger4094 Well I was certainly alive. I actually received my A1200 for Christmas in 93, mere months before the big C went belly up. I had a C64 before that. You've turned into an old cynic! Not that that's a bad thing mind.
It’s kinda funny to hear MX Browns called loud! I know they’re loudER than rubber ones but compared to other switches like Alps they’re closer to rubber!
Wasn't the first production of Amiga 500 using a mechanical keyboard? Would be nice to compare it to that.
I find it's best to go straight out the back when laying cable.
Gman:Rise and shine mister *amiga*
It is hard to find a keyboard nowadays that does not look like a fun fair. Last year I bought one from Ducky, but if I still was searching for a simple keyboard, this definitely would be an option!
CONGRATULATIONS!!! 🥳🥳🎉🎉🥳🥳
As someone who will be celebrating his 18th (JOYOUS) anniversary soon:
NEVER take your spouse for granted, lean into each others likes and dislikes as you will find some wonderous journeys contained within!
Marriage is the ULTIMATE adventure game 😆😆
This is fantastic for the MiSTER.
Looks good, where are simulant based?
Indeed a very appealing keyboard! By chance, does anyone know if/where can I find a 90s beige ATX/mATX case to go with the keyboard?
That being said brown is the sort of switch which many keyboard enthusiasts point at and say "this is what's wrong with Cherry" but i can't say it doesn't have a use, i think it's fine.
watching a middle aged man compare different shades of beige on a Friday night. I need help.
I don't do well on camera or in phone calls either. Fine in "real life" but there's something about being under a microscope that is just deeply uncomfortable. The keyboard looks great, though £140 is very steep for what is essentially a novelty.
you're going to want to put foam in that and do a tape mod :D
hey neil, i know it's a retro channel, but i'd love to see more of your daily rig, what's the spec, etc
Reminds me of the Colour Mac keyboards, which were fantastic.
I still use my Apple Extended II with a USB-adapter 🙂
@@oskich great to hear!
@@oskich I need to buy one of these, I could plug my Mousestick II too.
@@stephanemignot100 I have one of those aswell (somewhere in my garage)...
It would be nice if they offered a model with a wireless option..., with Bluetooth and/or a USB dongle...
🤔
I understand it doesn't have one for better authenticity but I wished it would have had a metal faceplate or a metal frame even.
I think you can see some flex already in the video even if it seems sturdy otherwise.
Enjoy your Honeymoon Neil and enjoy the best the Emerald isle has to offer while you're there ;)
16:26 is this Skidmarks? Interesing video!
Is there a slight yellow tint on the case or it is my idea?
Really nice , might buy one. But at the moment a wireless keyboard is what I need. Maybe we could see one down the line.👍🏻
Chyrosran22/Thomas Ran won't like those switches here 😬
That said, if you like all things Amiga, then fair enough ☺️
It just needs a higher base section to allow an RPI or mister to be installed below.
15:43 the crt screens to the gentleman's right look positively angry.
Hi Neil, Do you have any 48K ZX Spectrums that need a case and nice Mechanical Keyboard ? I would like to return the favor of the Mister Multisystem unit by sending a mechtrum if you can make use of it ?
Congrats on the marriage man!!!
