A lot of people are commenting how "it's just a movie it's not supposed to be accurate, there's no reason to do this", and while yes, you are right about the Jurassic franchise just being movies, they are movies that are most people's only perception of dinosaurs-I challenge you to find one article about dinosaurs that doesn't reference Jurassic Park or Jurassic World at some point. When the public perception of an entire field of science is from a single franchise that doesn't care about accurate or responsible representation, that's when it becomes important for the actual experts to come in and educate others about the science.

People have been able clicker train (for relatively simple behaviors) crocodilians and relatively dumb birds like pigeons and chickens. Being clicker trainable might be present in the most closely related modern relatives. It's not the most implausible thing in these movies.

im pretty sure click training can be done on birds, and not just parrots or crows. birds such as pigeons are much smarter than people used to think as they went by brain size and lack of cerebral cortex, but we now know birds have higher density of connections in their brains than mammals to make up for smaller brain/body ratio, and another part of the brain acts like a mammals cerebral cortex. velociraptor was likely at least as intelligent as a pigeon or hawk, both which can definitely recognise humans as individuals and form bonds with their owners, and be trained, hawks in falconry and pigeons do wellin those clicking for grain tests. cats are nearly as intelligent as dogs in their way, and can definitely be taught complex tricks using click training and im sure theres lots of youtube vids of performing cats.
I've trained my chickens to respond to audio cues (not a clicker, but the same sound-reward system,) so birds can most definitely be effectively clicker trained!
I'm a pigeon/chicken owner who teaches my birds tricks and stuff. These birds are incredibly smart. You are spot on.

Zoos literally train big cats to present different parts of their body for medical exams all the time. With positive reinforcement you could train pretty much any animal that can learn, including goldfish (this has been done). With the right reinforcer you could definitely train a velociraptor or even a stegosaurus (as soon as you get past the whole extinct issue).

The Raptors in The movies aren’t velociraptors, they were just give that name in the book. They’re Deinonychus . Skull shape, hand placement, size all match up.

Crows are in the upper echelon of intelligence. On par with or exceeding that of most primates or dolphins. So raptors that intelligent are not beyond the realm of possibility.

Have to take into account body size to brain size for that though because whilst a velociraptor is bigger than a crow is its brain also proportionally bigger than neccesary for its body size? Since that is the case for humans and explains our level of intelligence.

The distinction between different 'reptiles' and actual dinosaurs really got me off guard. What exactly is a dinosaur anyway.?
IIRC dinosaurs are more closely related to birds than they are reptiles but someone more knowledgeable can probably chime in.
The simplest is the common ancestor of the two major groups, saurischia and ornithischia, and all it's descendants.
Also, dinosaurs share a number of anatomical characteristic that differentiates them from other reptiles.
They're pretty much their own group
A reptile of the clade Dinosauria. Keep in mind that using "reptile" to refer to sauropsids (i.e. all living reptiles, non-avian dinosaurs, birds, pterosaurs, and various other extinct things) would be correct as Sauropsida is a monophyletic group.

@@miquelescribanoivars5049 that's not a cheap cop-out lmao, that's literally how it is in the books and they follow the same idea, the dinos in their universe are constantly messed around with, and upgrading designs is for modern people, we are not in the 80s anymore. the guy in the video mentioned how he would like to see them going back to roots and give attention to dinos themselves, but that's not going to capture most of the audience bc it's been done too many times and they needed something new. Jurassic world is popular because it's what the audience wants and expects

But those are just expressing one or two proteins. Nothing really complex. It’s not like the cat can turn the glowing on or off or that the goats can make webs with their udders.

a lot of people are missing the point regarding the clicker training. he stated mammals have the possibility of clicker training (we’ve seen with orcas, dolphins, birds, rodents,) but you’re failing to realize that most lizards do not have the capacity to do the same. and dinosaurs were essentially just giant lizards. velociraptors were technically a type of bird, so they could possibly be trained. but also, the mammals we have today have gone through thousands of years of evolution to grow smarter.

believe the logic behind the design of the Baryonyx in Jurassic World is because like most Spinosaurids, Baryonyx had a Skull that kinda resembles a Crocodile and it's believed that they also have an Aquatic lifestyle, so in the movie they just added more Croc-like features.
Crocodilians and Dinosaurs did share a close common ancestor, so there is a logic behind the idea they share some features to each other, especially if they share a similar lifestyle
JW baryonyx literally has a croco head and the body proportion is incorrect, the real animal skull was way more narrow and was smaller compared with the entire body

Actually, indominus rex is for sure fiction but the comment about how we can’t just take a property from an animal like camouflage ability of a chameleon to another organism…isn’t quite fiction. Transgenics has been successful on a few animals like bioluminescent mice-they took DNA responsible for bioluminescence in jelly fish and “inserted” it into mice resulting in real life glowing mice. Sooooo not impossible there…

The bioluminescence in those mice is just a protein that is expressed and shines under specific light. Having complex pigment cells with crystals that can modify themselves to change color is a completely different beast.
The Jurassic Park/World movies should focus more on the science transgenesis to get accurate the DNA editing of the dinosaurs.
Its fiction and dr.wu in the movie said they would look completely different if they use pure code genome but since they didnt they look bigger/prob stronger ect...

We know im the film the reason for a lot of the dinosaurs being bigger or meaner looking was because scientist in the movie made them that way to appeal to the horror the customers wanted. Bigger is better in the park companies eyes. More teeth more size.
