It was called something like “Talent is not enough” and we see her preparing for that wonderful New Years concert in Ostrava, aged 17, and the very hard work it involved. It ends with her wonderful rendition of ‘Musetta’s Waltz’ from La Boheme, radiant in that long red gown.

A l'époque c'était des larmes de joie qui coulaient tellement c'était magnifique. Maintenant ce sont des larmes de tristesse qui coulent sur les joues. Watching this I was suddenly struck by the reality of the fact that she was already half way through her all too short life. RIP Her tone was what had struck me, years ago. Just right, not shrill but a thing of beauty.
A simple look at the judges and you know how little they are qualified to judge this immense talent that Patrica represents! Far beyond they will ever be!
But qualified or not, I think we all agree that they (and of course the voting TV audience) got it right. Peter Dvorsky (who would have been well qualified to judge her) was at the super final and endorsed that decision to the hilt. The little performing dog she defeated was pretty talented as well. A few years later, she triumphed in an international singing competition , against 79 other classical singers, some of whom were over twice her age, and earned the newspaper headline, “The Little Miracle of Rome”. She valued that win far more highly, and of course the judges were all well qualified that time!

I love you, Patricia. This aria brings up memories for me. I was in the chorus of a Cavalaria production in the early 80s with a regional opera company in Maryland. Patricia, you are the lead angel in that chorus of angels you are now part of in heaven.

Patricia had such a unique angel voice, like Jackie Evancho has. I think, we all miss Patricia. She was living in the same city in CZ, like I was living for 32 years, so I feel like she was our Ostrava's angel. Janacek's Conservatory Ostrava is an excellent musician school, it generated a lot of famous musicians, including its strong, world-famous conductor's school. Patricia was also an absolvent of this Janacek's Conservatory. We will never forget.

Patricia had such a unique angel voice, like Jackie Evancho has. I think, we all miss Patricia. She was living in the same city in CZ, like I was living for 32 years, so I feel like she was our Ostrava's angel. Janacek's Conservatory Ostrava is an excellent musician school, it generated a lot of famous musicians, including its strong, world-famous conductor's school. Patricia was also an absolvent of this Janacek's Conservatory. We will never forget.
