I feel for you as I just fought one on my Silverado this past week. The difference between yours and mine is that mine didn't have that bridge that you could simply break off. No, mine was completely incased in the outer plastic. Like your's, my tube in the hose was brittle and just snapped as I was routing my A/C lines under it. I almost cried thinking that I had damaged my heater core and the chore of having to take the dash apart. Fortunately it was that plastic piece that snapped. So I researched it. Went to the auto parts store and found the replacement for a couple of dollars along with a "tool" to release it. I later found that the tool was for A/C and fuel lines not cooling hoses. It was too short. (story of my life)
Being tucked up under the firewall limited access to the plastic fitting. So first I tried to cut it with a saw blade. Then a Dremel tool only to see that the heater core pipe was at the same depth as the fitting. Then I remembered seeing that someone used a soldering iron to cut the fitting. I used my soldering iron to melt the plastic. It took me three hours to make three cuts but it finally came off. Thankfully the heater core pipe was fine. So after cleaning the pipe, plenty WD40 and a prayer, I simply snapped the new fitting into place. In conclusion those fittings were designed for ease of installation at the factory not the poor guy trying to repair it.

Push the hose in...squeeze the white clip too compress it...while Squeezing it then pull it back while gently twisting it....i just pulled then all out in about 15 min in the rain....the key is push the hose in to relax the pressure off the clip....then squeeze...hard!!! if they won't come off your not Squeezing hard enough....

When I first watch this video my first thought was "The Brother has got to be doing something wrong" .. Well I have got to apologize because he was 100% correct and the only way to get those little over priced bastards off is exactly the way he did it. Little by little you break them off is how I did it and cut the little bridges off that hold the locks. It occurred to me about half way thru this 4 hour nightmare why General Motors made this the way they did. It was not for the ease of replacing them it was for the quickness of assembly when the trucks were being built because it certainly was not for the convenience of replacing them and yes they are a pain in the butt for sure.

"if I knew who invented this I'd give him a knuckle sandwich" haha if I had a 1$ for every time I've said that. It was kinda ironic when you said that I instantly thought of those stupid clamps that you have to pinch to get off, then you actually mention it. Every time I have to get into a project that requires me to take those off I usually buy a big pack of worm gear clamps and I'm slowly replacing all the clamps in the car. Especially my b/c my last problem, the end you pinch was facing INSIDE the engine bay so I had to try and pry the hose off completely.. Ended up breaking the tip of the water return nipple off so now the hose barley stays on. All because of the little nightmares.

Everyone I've come across the hose is too short cause the fitting to break. 5/8 hose about 4' long is what I replaced my factory hose with the second time I changed this not so quick disconnect. Yeah I cut mine off with a razor knife.

I'm a 57 year old woman and I thought it would be a breeze for me to do this repair work myself, along with draining, flushing, and refilling the radiator.
I had no problems with the drain, flush, refill part☺️, it was that demon possessed part that you are referring to that got right on my damn nerves!🥴🤦🏽‍♀️
I couldn't get it off, so I called my big, strong son for assistance, he watched your video and said, "How in the hell did he clip the black part and what did he use to do it?",🤔 he tried, but no success. 🙄😐
So, what he did was he just kept chipping away at it very carefully using a hammer, a flat head screwdriver, a steak knife, a toe nail file(I'm serious🤷🏽‍♀️)and some needle nose pliers and after about an hour he got that stubborn so-and-so off of there, and celebrated his accomplishment, it was a proud moment! 🤭😂
From that point it was a breeze and a complete success, but like you stated, ain't nothin' quick about it and that's the whole truth! 🤦🏽‍♀️😐🙄🥴🤔🤭😁😂🤣✌🏽❤
