Mechanics had quoted me between 500-550 for them to replace!! sheeeeeesh i aint paying that took me 50 bucks and about an hr of work to get it done! haha! saved myself soooooo much money! thanks again!
Just want to say thanks for this vid. It saved me about 250 at the shop. I managed to get parts plus fluid that leaked out when it broke for about $55.
Dude, this is awesome. I'm currently sitting in my tahoe after just the end of the nob to the hose broke off. My part actually looks like it'd already an aftermarket part as it's just a nipple, not a weird connector. I took the broken nub out of the pipe, was able to snake hose back onto remaining part over that ridge that you show and tighten clamp. As soon as engine is cold I'll fill with antifreeze and test pressure. You video helped me by basically showing me if I connect to what is left of that nozzle I should be good to go long enough to buy a new part. You rock.
I did this same fix a few years back on a suburban, it does indeed work fine. I just wish GM would improve on the t connectors, because they WILL fail eventually. If you’re lucky you notice it just leaking a little before it just pops.
Personally, based on my experience. The outlet heater hose is probably easiest to just replace the whole hose assembly vs just replacing the T and trying to remove the fitting. The fitting was nearly impossible to break apart in my 2013, so i cut the hose just below the black plastic hose clamp and losing an inch of hose put a bunch of tension on the outlet hose assembly. Im going to add a coupling somewhere halfway through the hose to relieve the tension so it'll still work out ok. But thats just my experience. The inlet hose worked without issue, though. Which is the T that broke on me anyways. I really appreciate the tip, you saved my a*s at 7 pm when i still had more errands to run and it was Saturday night.
Thank you for your tips. It makes sense. The extra fittings seems like for convenience only when the T-body connector part is as much vulnerable to break anyway. 😊
Thanks brother! I just experienced the same thing a couple days ago on my Yukon. Got stuck 30min from home, smoking coolant all over, engine overheated. 😞 I replaced the T-connector and removed the metal clamp off the hose and connected it directly. I plan to do the same to the white T-connector. What a crappy point of failure this was. This problem also caused a DTC P308 (cylinder 8 misfire) so I think the coil pack there got damaged by the hot coolant. But thanks again for the hose hack.
Awesome fix! I couldn't figure out why the heater hose on a 01 Yukon XL kept leaking after I put in a new radiator. I worked on it for 3 nights straight. Finally found your video and it saved me another night of headache working on this damn thing. I had put in a bigger radiator, upping the pressure in the hose, sure enough it broke that fitting. Thank you so much! Great video!
I have to try and do the motor mounts as well. Mine are loose now and I think that's what's tugging on the coolant hoses in the first place. Excellent video man!
Thx u soo much !!!!! Out smarted 3 guys by doing this ! My car was broken down for 2 weeks got tired of waiting on them ! Sooo I did this my self I just need some one to comfort that it was safe! Thx soo much
You are the man bro! You saved me! I changed the oil pressure sensor not fun but thanks to you I got it done, then I broke that putting the cover back on and you saved me twice! Much thanks!
Man, thank you so much. I was struggling with the so-called easy disconnects for like 30 minutes I pushed in squeezed and pull out and they came right out. Thanks man!
Honestly buying the original hose is worth the money I’ve had to replace two of those connectors because of that clamp Oem hose and connector to save you the money in the long run
Bro cool hack. My Acdia T fittings busted then the quick connectors broke as-well while fixing the hoses SMH. I had enough hose to replaced the Quick connects by just cutting the hoses above the clamps that attach to the thermostat, but I'm going to break the other two clamps per your vid and replace the other two quick connectors. I know those are the only two old quick fittings that are left to replace. BTW I replaced my T fittings with metal and the quick connectors with Gates brand instead of the Dorman because they are noticeably thicker plastic. Lastly as a test run I tried breaking the clamps I cut off with the pliers and it was a no go so I ended up putting them in my Vice in order to smash them a few rounds to finally break them. I'm ordering the other two Gates from Amazon way cheaper than $20 bucks a pop from Oreilys. Again thanks for that hack didn't know that was possible👍🏻
Actually the white and black Tee fittings are different. You made two black ones work, which is fine. But they do come with a slightly different angles of the Tee, to accomodate the metal lines from the rear heater core that approach the Tee's from a different angle. Should use the correct Tee's in the correct position as that will lessen stress when you install the correct Tee in the correct position. The straight non-Tee quick connector like the pickups use are identical because they have no Tee coming off them and are interchangeable with each other, even though from the factory they may well still come white and black. Both heater core metal nippples are 3/4.
I just noticed that realistically you could use the same T fitting you already got on there and just get rid of the metal fitting on the heater hose and clamp it like you’re saying. I did replace my t fitting but it’s not necessary right? It had no damage to it.
My truck started giving me the Traction error and check engine. Looked it up and it said it might be a spark plug or coil. Come to find out my coolant is leaking in that exact same spot and its dripping on the 8th spark plug. Im literally typing this while about to change the spark plug. Tomorrow im stopping to buy one of those connectors. Thank you 🙏🏼
Ey man, how's the stuff holding up? Any leaks yet? Need to replace the hoses on my 05 Tahoe, can I use the same solution on the thermostat-end? Don't know why they called them "Quickconnect", should've been "Quick-to-upset"
Thanks for the video very helpful but this whole system is a garbage system by General Motors just eliminate those stupid valves all together cut the quick connects off the ends of the hoses push the hoses directly onto the heater core and tighten them with old fashioned screw clamps and be done with the whole stupid system
The issue with that is that some vehicles have a t connection so you have three hoses merging into one so you're going to have to merge them somehow and you can't do that by just shaving in a piece of tube it would be more work in my opinion
The black and the white have the Tee coming off at slightly different angle to accomadate the metal lines that come off and go down to the rear heater core.
@@ERICSDIYGARAGENo, they are different. The white and black Tees have different angled branches to accomodate the fact that the rear heater has the lines coming up at slightly different angles.
@@ERICSDIYGARAGEYes, you made two of the same angle work. But the ideal way is to use the correct angle Tee because the rear lines approach up to the Tee's from slightly different angles, and that will lessen stress on the plastic Tee if the angle is as optimized as possible.
They do, it's for the lower part of that heater hose where it connects to the thermostat and splits off to the reservoir. Somebody does make metal replacement fittings to the heater core, but only for models without rear heating sadly.
