The Conibear trap was invented and made in 1957 by Frank Conibear Canada . He brought his idea to Edmonton 2:24 Alberta Canada where he had his design made for him by a local merchant.
@@silverwoods12? 1920’s Frank Conibear was making the first Conibear traps, it was improved in the 50’s to what we use today. In 1959 it was sold to a company in Lititz Pa along with the Conibear name, that's in Lancaster county PA. Where I’m from
I am a direct decedent of Elbridge Trask who was Jim Bridgers trapping partner and lifelong friend. Direct decedents still celebrate him at annual family reunions on the Trask river near Tillamook Oregon.
Didn't silk replace fur felt in top hats? And other hats, like the Bowler (derby) which came around in 1850, and later hats like the Homburg and Fedora are still made with fur felt, at least the good ones are.
Hard to take a museum even remotely qualified when they put out a vid saying the mountain men of the fur trade used "connibear" traps. Connibear traps weren't invented until 1929 or 1957, depending on which "history" you follow. I think Frank Connibear had his first ones made by a local craftsman in the 20s and Victor started mass production in the 50s. Their "educator" also said, "... unlike modern hats made of felt, fashionable hats started being made of beaver in the 1800s...". Again, wrong. The eastern fur trade, especially the French, was based on beaver pelts for the hat industry's use of... wait for it... beaver felt. Lol
Very informative! Thanks.
