    I recently acquired a Hornby Class W4 Peckett "Niclausse" in leaf green. It is beautifully crafted, but it was running jerkily at low speeds. Running in did not help. Dismantled it and discovered large amounts of thick grease in the mechanism. I thinned the grease with light oil and removed most of it. That helped a bit. Another problem was that the connecting rods seemed to hit the edge of the wheels. I bent the rods slightly outwards, after which the locomotive is running perfectly, with a very slow crawl. The whistle is made out of brass, so maybe they have upgraded the model in that regard. It weighs a lot for such a small loco. Thank you for the review. Stay healthy and keep up the good work!

    I like this livery because for a modeller it allows some customization, if you want you can stick a br transfer on the tank side or a company name or a custom name plate I think they should bring out more plane colours. as for the whistle I find that their impossible not to break is like to see someone who's had a peckett for over a year with a whistle still attached. also that silver rod on the side is for the sand boxes not the reverser that's on the other side.

    Hi there, Sam;
    Another very informative review in your user- friendly style; thank you! It determined me to unbox my Lilleshall Peckett that I bought some time ago but had somehow overlooked. My locomotive is a little jewel with no imperfections although I have yet to put her through her paces. I wondered whether you had bought this as a new or used model and if the latter, whether the imperfections you noted were reflected in the price. When it comes to their liveries, I just love them all and I am looking forward to receiving the NCB B2!
    Cheers,
    Peter.

    As for the livery debate, I have to agree with you on that one. I got my Hornby SECR Terrier for the same price as the BR black version, meanwhile Bachmann for example sell the BR black E4 for a whole lot less as the SR olive green one. Tsk tsk tsk...

    Hi Sam. I've got an idea for a challenge. What if you put the Andrew Barclay 0-4-0 against the Peckett 0-4-0. Two similar engines in size and with the same wheel arrangements. It would be interesting, put them to the test on challenges of shunting, strength and cost. What do you think?
