I love it! I talked about this tram line in one of my previous videos, about how they did exactly the same thing when IJburg was first built. It's such a massive difference from how it's done in Canada, where everything is built for driving and they only start to think about adding public transit when the traffic becomes unbearable. I still think this should have been a metro, not a tram, as there is more than enough demand, but it's still a much better way to build transit!
Oh… hi… NJB😳. Didn’t expect you to find here! Thank you for loving it! I do understand the demand, I especially think an east-west metro should be built, linking IJburg easily with the city centre and the west part of Amsterdam, as the only way people can exit the neighbourhood is via Centraal or Zuidoost
@@yaboiexter what if they retrofitted the line to run on an asian (bangkok) style elevated in the future👀 by the way you're famous now that NJB commented
Oh my God can you even live A SUNGLE DAY without trashing canada in every single one of your discussions? If you hate it that much why do you keep coming back to it. You’re acting like there’s not multiple subway extensions going on all around the country
@@yaboiexter This is also the content I love. As someone who is a transit nerd form amsterdam too, these are the video's I am too lazy/ don't have enough video making skills to make, so I love watching them.
Cool! They should extend the 19 to bijlmer I think -there is room -there is already a bridge over the weespertrekvaart (to the workshop_ -connections with metro -takes pressure off bus
Even more interesting the line is getting a new depot and a re-alignment on Zeeburg and IJburg Steigereiland. Another second depot is under consideration at the 2035 exteded end
The tram is already at full capacity. The municipality should really invest into a subway or express trams service next to the already existing regular tram with a view stops only to increase the speed of the line. Additional tracks and infrastructure will be needed to accomodate an express tram service. The current headway is not deemed sufficient enough. Longer trams are also technically not possible.
Oh nice! I've only been there to swim. They've been planning this since I moved to Amsterdam 20 years ago. Happy to see it's finally happening. They'll probably extend this line to Almere one day...
I'm happily subscriber #120 haha It is interesting to see how an existing major city extend it own border and transportation. And that the transportation come first.
Right? It’s one of the reasons I love Amsterdam, that public transport and bikes aren’t an afterthought, but actually deemed important! Thank you for subscribing btw :)

Thanks for the suggestion! But I don’t think a lot of people would be interested. Looking at my analytics, most people are interested in Amsterdam (or Randstad) content. But if I find a way to make it interesting for everyone, I might consider.
Hmmm, if you are talking about the Berlage Bridge near Amsterdam Amstel, then sorry to disappoint you, but the bridge I was talking about is a completely different bridge :). Thank you anyway for watching!
I remember a few years ago people were making fun of a Chinese city for building a metro line to an open field and just a few years later there was a bustling neighborhood there. Building out the mass transit lines should always precede development as that is the point when it's most flexible and cheapest to do so.
Why don't they branch and extend it into Oost via a bridge? Seems like every city making the same radial public transit mistake that meets in the center.
True, but the municipality is considering building a metro linking Weesperplein, the city centre and Amsterdam West, so maybe we finally have a decent connection linking IJburg and Oost
