    A friend of mine runs a coin shop. He bought it from the original owner and it has been there 45 plus years. He used to be a show dealer and was on the road every weekend and hitting shops during the week. Since he bought the shop he has a built in clientele and the former owners son is his partner. Now that he has the shop he has cut down the number of shows from 40 plus to less than 10. When he goes to a show like ANA or Baltimore he is mobbed. He gets material in every week, nothing super rare but a few nice pieces a month and he send at least one package a month to the grading services. When he sets up it is fresh material, not stuff that has been to every show for months but things even common that are new to the market. New material is red hot for him and his next show is at least 2 months away.

    For US coins you may have a point since they are in abundance. I collect Latin American Republic era gold coins in AU. These coins are much more rare than US coins therefore they are in demand regardless of Stale or Fresh. One coin I would love to see back on the market is an 1824 Argentina 2 Escudos. There is only two in the NGC census. (Actually, it is just one coin because this coin was broken out and resubmitted.) I followed this coin from the day it was sold in the Eliasberg sale in 2005. It bounced around from auction house to auction house until a collector in South America bought it. Unfortunately, I could not afford it at the time. My coins would be almost impossible to even ascertain if they are fresh or stale because many world coins are collected in Europe and they don't slab coins as we do. Many European auctions offer mostly raw coins. Unless you have been following their market for many years it is impossible to know the history of the coin.

      Thank you for the comment. Most coins are hard to determine their direct origin but any additional information you do learn about the coin always makes for a great addition to the experience. It’s not imperative to know but certainly helps.

    • @AcoushaCollectibles
      @AcoushaCollectibles  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Few reason for sure.
      1. Not the best for the grade.
      2. Something the graders missed.
      3. Lack luster (definitely important on a gem)

    The story of a coin could be cool and all, but that doesn’t really matter to me. To me, it comes down to the eye appeal of the coin first, and prestige of the TPG holder second. If, in my opinion, the coin is over graded or has a problem (cleaned or damaged not identified by the grader), I’m not buying it, no matter what the story is behind the history of the coin (even if it’s “fresh” and never been to market before). If someone’s grandpa found a coin in circulation 100 years ago, and passed it down through family generations, ultimately to get graded by the grandson and held for 20 years, just bringing it to market for the first time, but it’s hazy, cleaned, scratched, has a rim ding, artificially toned, or overgraded, etc., it’s a hard pass for me. It’s less about “fresh” or “stale”, but more about good/great for the grade with high eye appeal, even on low graded coins.
