Hi Paul, Another big thanks, I've just bought the 3.2M -30g Ascension, And used it on the Weaver on Friday, Spot on lovely rod, I am definitely going to buy the 3.4m - 40g, Many thanks great review Richie.
@@richardgodfrey1692 I’ve got both of them now too, a joy to use and underpriced! Angling Direct are selling the 3.4m for £59.99 at the moment, incredible bargain.
Thanks Paul, I found the link to this video when I searched for details of the ascension rod on maggotdrowners after seeing Lee Kerry’s pellet feeder video on @preston innovations channel. Lee Kerry winning the feeder masters at Tamar with this rod and your review has led me to putting it on my Christmas list! 🙂👍 Seems ideal for silvers and occasional carp at Bude canal basin and Tamar reservoir.
Thank you for the great review! I think it will be a good choice for small still waters with fish up to 2kg and when it is necessary to force fish out from the weeds sometimes. I was looking for something more sensitive and lighter than a typical carp feeder, but not as dry a stick as a typical river rod.
It’s a different type of rod. The Ascension is a silvers rod, with power to handle bigger fish. The rod you have is designed for good sized fish and an upgrade would be the Monster or Supera x. I have the original Supera which is a brilliant rod, second hand ones do come up on eBay at great prices.
Hi Paul I'm new to your channel and found your information a great help. I was wondering what part of the Gloucester canal would you recommend. Its been over 30 years since I've fished there. I've recently bought the preston 11ft supera x which I was thinking about trying it out on the Gloucester canal.
Thanks for the good feedback. I’m a member so Stroud Angling Club (£40 a year, several waters) and they have a stretch of the Gloucester canal at hardwicke. You can park behind your peg (around 50 pegs) and you are on the side of the canal where the public can’t walk. I’ve not fished anywhere else on the canal and know the areas near Gloucester are better, but I’d recommend visiting one of the local shops to get details of other areas and where to park etc. Stroud angling club members renews in April and they sell out over April and May (membership available from Lobby’s Tackle in Stonehouse). They also have a lake near Dursley (Stouts Hill) with carp, f1s and silvers
@Paul’s Tackle Reviews thanks Paul for getting back to me I appreciate that. I use to live in yate and chipping sodbury. But now live in warmley Bristol. So it's still not that far for me to travel. I also like the idea that you can park behind your pegs .because I have c o p d. I will wait till April comes and try and get the licence. But can you still get day tickets for the canal? Thanks Paul for all the information 👍.
You said you use 8lb horizon matrix mono for your method feeder work.how do you find it is it strong and does it-sink well would you let me know thanks
I’ve used it for over 3 years now without fault. It sinks well (the line sinking in the video was slower than usual as I had just spooled up that reel), is very strong, can’t remember it breaking on a fish and takes some breaking when you catch a snag/tree! At 0.20mm it is also comparable to 5lb/6lb in other brands. I have tried several other brands including Preston sinking, Drennan Supplex, Shimano, Tournament st, Sensor, Maxima. I play fish now on the clutch and don’t suffer from line twist with the Matrix.
I’d love to get one and compare and do a video (if you’re listening Preston!). If it’s better than the one I have it must be some rod. I may be tempted if I see one in a shop, not seen one yet.
Great vid, thinking of getting one, I have a 10 foot SL which is simply amazing for silvers but fancying a catch all when it’s not out and out carp bashing
It’s one I got from Marks and Spencer’s a few years ago, nice wide brim to protect from sun. I got it from M &S because they do big sizes, I need an XL!

A versatile rod, brilliant for silvers.
Ordered this rod yesterday, managed to get it for £55. It looks like I've chosen well.
Thanks for the info
Great price!
Thanks for this great review Paul. Convinced me to buy the 12ft version today for future river fishing sessions as my Supera are to short.
Thanks for the good feedback.
Great review Paul.
Great review

Got the 11ft 4 in this and love it
I’ve also got the 10ft 8” now, great rods with some heavily discounted prices now.
I have a preston ignition carp feeder do & had some good fish on it . Do you think this rod would be a upgrade?

These look nice rods Paul, I’m wondering what the Guru A -Class rods are like.
There are so many good rods now, it’s just difficult to handle them in person in the shops as stock goes as quick as it comes in.
Hello Paul l know you love your supera 10ft have you any views on the New supera X the new model of the supera Cheers Mate
