That elevator ride down. Hearing this song and then realization hitting that this is the same instrumental song as lift together... turned from a song of freedom and perseverance into one of acceptance and praise of a god-king that had not a solitary care for them.
This moment ripped the heart out of me.
Seeing the vent kids bowing in worship stomped on it.

I know this is late, but if you noticed on lift together you start with the people and rise to the sky. For narmer, you're sinking with a rough ride down. Then you're all left looking up at the person that set themselves over everything.

"For Narmer" hits so hard if you take a moment to think about it. "We all lift together" was a song of hope, of perseverance through hard times, a song to get you through, while "For Narmer" is a song after they've been ground under Nef Anyo's heel, having the Tenno fight for them and despite all that fighting they then get subjugated by Narmer. It's a song, of a people, who have given up. They've got nothing left. The Tenno are gone, noone else can stand up to Narmer. They serve Narmer because......... what other choice do they have? :(

It’s not uncommon to see plots in which we lose. It’s in a ton of games, hell, it’s the literal base plot for a HUGE amount of RPG’s. But none of them hit like Warframes did. They didn’t tell us how it used to be, they showed us. As you play the game, the lore is built before your very eyes. You get attached to the characters, you are made out to be a unstoppable god of sorts. But then, the new war ends it all. It shows you how truly powerless you are. It takes its time, but that pacing makes it so much more impactful. It’s genuinely earth shattering to see Fortuna Post-Narmer. I have never felt more unrelenting sorrow from one game ever. I can’t speak for everyone here (obviously), but for me personally 9/10 times when I play a game with story, whenever something bad happens, I just sit there like “Yeah whatever they have plot armor so”. But Warframe doesn’t do that. I thought that when we would find Ballas and win like we always do, but then we lost. And the lost is truly felt throughout the rest of the game. Fortuna is enslaved, Cetus is inslaved, with no hope. There wasn’t a “rebel group” that we team up with and win, no, there is no hope. It’s a complete and absolute loss. There is no hope. The Lotus is gone, Darvo, Samaris, Onko, Eudico, Little Duck, all completely under Ballas’s control. You are completely and entirely alone. There is no “rebel group” there is no allies. Only you. This makes it far more impactful, because now it feels like you are at truly impossible odds. You lost, it feels as if it’s over. It feels real because there wasn’t some “rebel group”, there isn’t any help. There isn’t any “Well this person wasn’t under Ballas’s control and they just happen to have a secret weapon that just happens to be the one thing that can kill Ballas” Everyone. Is. Gone. I think that’s why this story feels far more impactful. It feels like a much more genuine comeback. It feels as tho it could actually happen. Ballas wasn’t incompetent like most villains in rpgs and just “happened to forget about most of your allies.” He won. Completely. Absolutely. He is far more of a threat then most villains will ever be. Genuinely one of the best written stories I’ve ever experienced.

Man Fortuna was one of my favourite places in Warframe for years. I loved both the location and covertly working with its enslaved people against the Corpus controlling Venus. Hearing them sing this as the lift took me down to see what has become of them hit hard and got me feeling like everyone really did completely lose to Ballas and those days of a scattered but free system with nothing to stop us are a thing of the past and all we former Tenno can do now stripped of our power is try survive under his rule. Even after New War Fortuna no longer is the busy neon lit city it was but damaged and with Narmer structures still there. The people too that would have conversations and make it feel lively are now stoic and silent.

This is a reverb of We all lift together, [SPOILER ALERT] it is based upon the philosophy of Fortuna where all the villagers live their life standing together to fight the rule of Nef Anyo... With the new war (last update), they lost every sight of hope because Narmer took control of their minds... that's why they say "Virtue once was lift together, but virtue now is lift alone" This is... sad...

In terms of the change from We All Lift Together to For Narmer, the theoretical aspects of it are chilling. WALT was a wild and fun song, rhythmically varied, melodically simple. An ode to a people, all with their own experiences and perspectives, nonetheless coming together in the best way they could. The instruments are improvised, and the whole thing is something that you could teach a room of untrained singers, and keep humming along to for years to come.
This song, on the other hand, trades in the rhythmic variety, simple melody, and improvised nature for a rhythmically simple, harmonically more complex, and uniform sound. Most notes are held for the same value, and while the song is still simple enough to learn and listen to, it carries with it a unity that can only be achieved by absolute cohesion. It tells a tale of a people that have had all individual solidarity stripped away, their connections only existing through a golden medium in the sky. It twists the message of unity and togetherness in WALT in such a horrifying way.

    Healed, the pain of independence
Strong, our wise and trusted friend
    We, united in one vision
Rise to sing of sorrow's end
He, the bringer of the vision
Bids you answer to his call
Praise the wise and mighty Ballas
Heed the ruler of us all
    For we're all One
    And the work's begun
    For Narmer
    And we all run
    To our golden son
    For Narmer
    For Narmer
Here today we sing our story
With Ballas we have found our home
    Virtue once was work together
But virtue now is lift alone
Free we are now from each other
    Brothers, sisters, daughters, sons
Where once we dreamt of independence
Now we stand and dream alone
    We were all for One
    Now the work's begun
    For Narmer
    And we all run
    To the golden son

The thing that really hits with this is the fact that this song is both musically and vocally arranged VERY similarly to “We All Lift Together”, but is now a dirge showing the new state of the Solaris people, reveling in their subservience. It’s heartbreaking, they fought so hard for their freedom and are now twisted into something worse than where they were

Also written in the same key signature, time signature, and BPM. I'm fairly sure a lot of the chords are flipped chords as well. The song We All Lift Together is of the people of Fortuna singing about how hard they've worked to get what they have, and how they will do anything to defend it. This is basically what we, the Tenno, feel after hearing this song: Dispair.
This song just put the nail into the coffin as to the consequences of the loss of the Tenno. We did not just lose the fight for the last stand, we lost the war and got conquered. We drop down via the lift and we see the once revolutionary Solaris, whose people fought day and night for their freedom and independence, joyously sing about being ruled under one person. It pains us to see them go against their lifelong drive and just stand and praise Ballas like he saved them from themselves...

So I thank you for your beautiful song to sing to for that ♥️.

We All Lift was way better... Tbh this song isn't anything special compared to other songs in Warframe. Second Dream soundtrack for example is literal goosebumps.

@@egonieser Froma musical standpoint, they are both very good in their own ways, but what makes this one so special, I think, is probably the context in which it is presented. The emotion behind it is further enhanced by the fact you can feel and hear how this song is a twisted and corrupted sister of We All Lift.

Went in to TNW almost completely blind. Knew there was an iconic song named "For Narmer", and there's a color palette called "Narmer", and very little else. Based on the name alone, I imagined "Narmer" was a strange but hopeful figure. I was very, _very_ wrong. Realizing this song had the same melody as We All Lift Together was downright devastating. DE are masters at presentation.

If you don't know much about Warframe, "For Narmer" is supposed to be about enslavement by someone named "Ballas" as he mentioned in the lyrics "... Praise the wise and mighty Ballas ..." This song is the "dark" version of another song about freedom and unity, titled "We All Lift Together." As someone who has played the game for 6 years and fell in love with the lore and aesthetic of Warframe, hearing this song gave me chills, especially when this song was played in a small cutscene where these freedom fighters was getting enslaved.
Great cover, Colm. You nailed it
