All four of these violins each have a wonderful sound, and played by a very talented musician. In my humble as an amature, I think perhaps the Strad has the edge. Thank you for making this video.

A Strad is a Strad but my favourite is the 1st one. It has a compelling individual sound and rich overtones- really good projection as well. The G string seems resonant and almost imposing at times, which adds another dimension to its character. It's possible though, that if I play myself or hear them live, opinion might alter. Your playing brings out the different attributes of the violins nicely. Enjoyable experience.

This is by far the best recording of violins I've ever heard on TH-cam. You can hear the character and power of each instrument, and actually tell them apart. Countless times I've watched comparisons of violins and strings, and they all sound alike, all poor examples of what the violin sounds like due to cheesy recording equipment or technique.

Thank you very much! We work hard to capture the nuances as faithfully as possible!

The Grancino sounds great, as does the second Vuillaume.

I think the current value and high regard for Vuillaume instruments has a lot to do with Hilary Hahn to be honest. Not that Vuillaume couldn't stand on his own two feet without her "help" and of course his work was very highly regarded amongst violinists and collectors long before Hilary was even born. But still, Hilary is arguably in the top handful of players of all time and she has accomplished this and remained at the top of her profession without the "need" for a Strad or Del Gesu. She likes them so much she bought two of them!

    1) Strad
    2) Grancino
    3) Vuillaume 1
    4) Vuillaume 2
    Excellent recording, thank you!
Have you tried to put Gold wounded G and D also on this Strad?

Strong playing! Great sounding violins. Tough to judge them fairly through a cell phone speaker.

For me: 1. Strad (lower register is awesome), 2. Vuillaume 1, 3. Vuillaume 2, 4. Grancino

You can hear why Hillary Hahn plays a Vuillaume.
