I think I am a weird one. I find the 'recycling' of the tombstones, to be a bigger insult, than digging up and moving the bodies. Someone paid to have a stone carved to commemorate someone's life. Someone who was important to those who thought them worthy enough to mark their presence on this earth. The original grave stones, should have been relocated to wherever the cemetery was moved to.
There was once a stone found in Minnesota that had norse runes on it. The Kensington rune stone talked about a 1362 expedition by the vikings into Vinland. It was discovered underneath an old tree, and the tree's roots had wrapped around the stone.
