I hope this gives you a laugh as you are recovering. I watched this video probably end of November and I finally got to go to Sam's club around that time. I bought a 10 pound bag of onions to so I could can this but when I was ready to can them I couldn't find the bag. My husband looked, my daughter looked. I looked. We all looked for two months to find the big bag of onions. Today I am bing watching your videos and cleaning out boxes, guess what I just found???! Lol, that bag of onions and it is sprouting! Haha!
Did the same thing - have two sprouting in a pot on the windowsill. I'm hoping for onion seeds from the sprouts, so Heather not only got me back into canning, I think she may have started my garden too. HEATHER ROCKS!!! 😀
I realize that I cannot can french onion soup because I DO NOT have a pressure canner, so here's what I did: I made your beautiful broth and let it cool and then I put it in ice cube trays and froze it and then I put it in freezer bags and sealed them with my food saver and put them in the freezer! I can use as much or as little of this wonderful broth as I like! Thank you for the wonderful recipe! God bless!
Watch for sales.....storage trash outs, yard sales and thrift stores. I got a large one like hers on sale at JC Penny for 75$ and a free smaller one on a trash out.....I can't believe they just left it behind......but I have it now.
Great idea, thanks for sharing. If and when you do get a canner spend the extra $ and get an American Canner. It's worth the extra $, the quality is great.
My love and heart goes out to you and your family. I will keep running your videos with full ads Hope that this helps. I hope Knowing that you are loved by so many helps you heal from this tragic loss you and your family are going through. Matt will be missed ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️💕
Oh, I ordered my 1st ever pressure canner yesterday! Can hardly wait for it!!! Your videos and great teaching gave me the confidence to get it. I'm 70 yrs. young and have wanted to can for years, but was always to intimidated to go forward with it. Thank you so much!!🤗
Ok Its a year later - how many canners do you have now? I'm 74+ and have three. I have slowed down but I love having two canners going at once. Saves time. Keep on putting food back.. especially in these days.
Pamela, I know how you feel...I felt like throwing a party for myself and my new canner! I still carry a picture of the canner in my phone. I love watching several utubers every day. Hope you have as.much fun as I have had!!

I have had your onion stock recipe on the stove for the past 12 hours. I keep walking by and am tempted to cann it up. Lol too soon I know but...so now I'm going to make your onion soup. My Daughter in law stopped by and asked what the wonderful smells were. I told her chicken bone broth and onion stock. I received pint jars, quart and gallon baggies from her for Christmas...my DIL sure knows my heart. 🥰🌹💐🌻
Little Mina and the sounds of home when my kids were all little is something I miss these days. Continuing through your videos, Heather, and supporting you in prayer through the days ahead❣️
Love your video! About 40 years ago at a restaurant I used to work at we served French onion soup and the customers went crazy for it. It was very similar to yours except on the top you would add a slice of mozzarella cheese a slice of Swiss cheese and a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese and put it under the Broiler till melted and crispy. It Was divine!
Oh yes, I remember those days. The place I got it used to put smoked provalone on top and serve it with a side of chopped bacon and cheddar topped potatoes wedges. Oh yes, that was so yummy. Haven't had those in many many years, might need to do that soon.
@@TheKneadyHomesteader so true. I think way back then it was $5 or $6 dollars for that combo. But it was so nice with a bottomless tumbler of sweet tea or pop.
Until 2 yrs ago, I never had home made beef vegetable soup. A new friend said it was his favorite... so I scoured the Internet in search of a recipe. I found one that is the bomb! It calls for Better Than Bouillion, which I never used before, either. Such flavor!!! Now I always keep some BTB on hand. I LOVE French Onion Soup and cannot wait to try this. All the ways this can be used later is brilliant, too. I found your channel looking for baked beans recipe to can and now I find myself binge watching. I never thought about canning so many different foods. I made that beef soup the other day, thinking I'd can it. It was so good I've been eating 2 bowls a day, then froze the rest. Next time. 😄 Just realized this video is 5 yrs old... LOL. Oh well...
A perfect choice of soup for canning. French onion soup takes so much time. (I get the onion well caramelized and browned). I would prefer to have it all done once and enjoy it for a long time.
I know this has nothing to do with THIS particular thing you're doing, but I wanted to share with you, what I happened to can up today. My husband and I had stir fry last night, and of course, these days, I sit and think about WHAT ALL I can can up! lol. . I look at all the ingredients that I'm cutting up, and wonder. . What would Stir fry Veggies be like, with my soy sauce liquid in it? Knowing that I can thicken it all up, after I heat it to serve~ . . Next thing I know, my husband and I are chopping up a BUNCH of stir fry veggies, so I can blanch them all before I jar them up, and put on the Soy Sauce liquid. They just came out of the canner, and THEY SMELL HEAVENLY! lol . . Now I can't wait to try them out, and see how they did! I'll do a follow up with you, after I do! :) Thank you for inspiring me to do all this stuff!! lol LOVE your channel!
We always get a huge onion crop every year, so I know what I’ll be doing with a lot of those onions! Praying for you and your family ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
No matter how long I have been canning, I still learn , and you have been an inspiration to me, I always can something soon after enjoying watching what ever it is you can, LOL... You are a delight, and I absolutely love you and your family. Keep up the great videos, and take good care of yourself ...
This looks so good and I bought a 50 pound bag of onions. I got then f I r 16.00 and so I got the big bag. Now I need to use some of them. Onion soup and onion jam will put a dent in them. Then I will dehydrate some of them. I didn't have luck with growing them this year they were small and so I peaked and froze them for roasts.
You inspired me to make and can this with my daughter yesterday, and let me tell you it is delicious and so easy to make. Thank you so much for sharing.

Just made and canned French onion soup following your recipe. Had some left over to have for supper. Absolutely delicious!! Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful recipe. Finally got around to making and canning this. I used Red Onions and it is wonderful. I did the same, canned 7 quarts and had the rest for dinner with some crusty rolls. It is raining and cool tonight so it was perfect!
Thank you for your interesting video... I discovered French Onion Soup when living in Europe... so good! I think I would put two or three times as many onions in each jar though.
I made a very small batch of this yesterday. I can't tell you how good it was. Lovely lovely lovely. When I'm not so busy I'm going to make a couple of batches. There are just two of us and I'm going to cancel half pints because some of my recipes call for four or five ounces. Tomorrow we will be using the rest of what I made and didn't use for lunch. Hello! I’m a new sub, and will be learning to can soon. For carpel tunnel, see a corrective chiropractor and they will check your neck. That’s the part that controls the hands and arms and could need adjusting. 👍
SOOOOO yummy I bet! Honestly! Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us!
I've probably canned and used this recipe more than anything else. It's come in handy for so many things. xoxoxo Heather! Thanks!!!
Love your enthusiasm. Heather we send love and prayers for you and your family.
Making this today for the coming winter. Thank you for posting. This looks heavenly.
Super mom !! Canning, making bread and dealing with kids. Great job
I love your video and that towel is awesome.
I hope you are making tons of money from youtube because you deserve it. Love it
Hahahaha I make enough to treat my kids! I could make a lot more, I suppose, but I dont do anything youtube tells me to do and I refuse to partner with any company. 🤣 I enjoy my freedom and not being an infomercial channel. 😂
good for you
Came out wonderful!!!!!
Looks yummy. Hope you and your kids are healing. Prayers and smoke up for you all.
i love it. I need to try this.
Good afternoon Heather! I was wondering how many pounds of onions 🧅 did for this recipe? I’m going to surprise my daughter, tonight. This is her favorite soup. I’m going to freeze the leftovers. I haven’t started canning yet😱 I found another video that you made, I was getting them confused 🤷♀️ 😂
10 pounds
Can't wait to can this later this weekend. Thank you for all you do Heather. Continued prayers for your family
