I love the openings of your videos. No music, talking. Just the environment, birds , quiet. Like when the people were still there. Gives it a reality. Relaxing or somber.

This is Eastlake style furniture, which was popular between 1880 and 1900, (at the end of the Victorian Era). Some of that hardware was at least that old, as well, possible pre civil war era (1850s). This was a beautiful home at one time. It would be interesting to know it's history. Who designed it, who built it, who owned it when, and what their life was like in that home. Thanks for documenting it before it was gone.

A huge heartfelt thanks to those sharing their knowledge about the architecture and furnishings. 🤗 I skim comments before watching videos, so I can look with a better eye. An even bigger heartfelt 🤗 hug to you, Kappy, for finding and filming these gems for us! This is my second vid. of yours, and just may be my new found favorite.

Looks like it may have had a fire, maybe that's why it was abandoned. Sad though, it was once a big beautiful old home with gorgeous countryside around it. Nice one Kappy.

@@jeremyd1298 would you scrifice high speed internet and cell service? We have neither lots of the time. We live in fairly isolated rural area and drive 30 miles rd trip for groceries. 60 miles rd trip for other shopping. In the winter, our road last one plowed in our area. But never could live in urban area. Too spoiled, no neighbors. 👍

    • @jeremyd1298

@@williebeamish5879 I hear ya there! One of my family member's has a hunting camp and farm that's about at least a half hour to 40 minutes away from any grocery store, or gas station etc or any store period! I used to go there when I was younger and I'll tell ya, it was a pain being so far from stuff. So yes, if broadband was available, cell service, TV, and a store closer it'd be much better. But without that, and the bad, narrow country roads, plus in winter, and the hassle of driving far all the time(to work, appointments etc), it is a big disadvantage! So I guess you could say I'd take an urban area over that due to those factors. Lol when I was there, a couple days would go by, and I'd want my modern day conveniences back asap...and it felt good to drive back home to "civilization." Not saying country folk don't live out of civilization, but that they don't have the conveniences that most ppl take for granted. Well at least the one's who live way out in the boondocks. And it gets lonely too, seeing no one around. But still, there's a lot to be said for the country, it's quiet, less stressful, and beautiful, calming etc. (lol sorry for the big write-up, I always seem to write a novel when replying lol).

Wow. Definately an archeologist’s dream. All the jars, tin cup, coal, stone and goodness knows what else down there. Looks almost like two houses put together or an addition. I’ve found those tiny curvy staircases to not be just for servants. You see them all over the world. I guess they take up less space but how impractical. Pretty brave explore. That one is going done soon. Glad you could document some history before it’s completely gone. I agree with others on those chairs. Can you imagine getting those monsters into the attic? That bird was straight out of Hitchcock. Perfect decay video. Thanks for sharing ❤️ Be safe.

At 1:39 as you were walking through all of the jars in the basement, we can see a jar of preserves that is still intact.
That is what the shelves and jars were for. They would have had to preserve everything from the garden, eggs, meat, wild berries and everything else they needed to live through the winter. Their local General Store wouldn’t be relief on to feed everybody.
So, back to 1:39 and the intact jar of preserves, it would have been nice if you would have picked it up and looked to see what was in it. The fluid (probably vinegar & salt & water) looks clear still. If it had gone bad, the fluid would be cloudy. If bacteria continued to grow over weeks and months, the jar would shatter from the pressure.
Details like that add a lot to a video.
Thanks for allowing us to explore along with you. Great video.

I saw a heavy timber with "Alligator Charring" 2/3 to 3/4 of the way through, and there may have been more under all that accumulation of crud, indicating there may have been some fire damage at some point in this home's long life. I was quite impressed at the size of those multi-pane windows, which would've made the rooms fairly bright in the day. It takes a good stretch of the imagination to envision what the place was like in better times, though. Too bad they left no signs of when they abandoned the place. Interesting find, Kappy, as usual.

I think the attic chairs with fabric or leather are Victorian Eastlake style, c. 1870's--80's. By the way the house it built (love that stone foundation) and some of the hardware, and the enclosed staircases, could the house date to the late 1700's? To me, it looks like a fire took her out--followed by years of exposure to rain. Sad!

Kappy, if the house was built in the late 1700’s. ( the cooking fireplace in the basement confirms this) the hardware on the doors would be from the same era, wouldn’t you think. Why change old hardware to not as old hardware? The hardware is the same as this18th century home. There’d be no reason to think otherwise.

The tufting-on-steroids and overly ornate (to our modern eyes) carving on those chairs spells Victorian (1837 - 1901). Nothing was ever too much for the Victorians. The world is filled with attics stuffed with Victorian furniture coz nobody likes it, but it feels too substantial to just throw away. It's not worth much even when in good condition coz there's just so damned much of it around. Even the people who abandoned this house, when packing up all their things to move out drew the line at the Victorian furniture ... "just leave that ugly stuff, Paw!" was the consensus as they moved on to their new lives.

Such a shame that it was left to rot like that. That roof is GONE. That furniture was beautiful at one time and possibly quite expensive. This could have been a home for a well-to-do Colonial family. Now nature is reclaiming it ...

Yeah, this one was definitely on the creepy scale. I am always so afraid of one of those floors giving way. I know you're cautious, but it still scares me.

So sad all those antiques lost . The house was probably quite a pretty family home . So sad to see it in this state I mean it might be salvageable with allot of money put into it . Thank you for sharing with us .

A great look into a historic building. Great job documenting it before it becomes rubble.

That was a crazy bird, maybe she laid eggs and left to get food and couldn't come back in. At 9:24 those got to be the oldest chairs I've ever seen in my life. This house has been sitting for probably 60 years. I could be wrong but that's my guess. What year was Plumbing an electric and introduced?

If the roof would have been maintained and kept water tight. And the windows boarded up and sealed tight can imagine how much more there would be to see? It so sad they are just left to rot after making all those years. Great video Kappy.

Ok I give up. What's that tiny blue lighted dot during the opening 8 secs at about 4 o'clock on the screen? Same on the very tail end in the closing segment.

Kappy, those are Eastlake style and are Victorian, probably mid to late 1800’s. This style is very ornate and quite beautiful in good condition. It’s so sad to see stuff like this though, because it’s irreplaceable. Hope that helps!

I thought the basement was creepy, I really appreciate your thoughtfulness this house is horrific. Who bolts the staircase? It must have been pretty at one time. Sure are heavy duty bolts. Thank you for working so hard to show us this one.
