  • A sunny winter's cycle ride on the canals around Dudley
The ride itself started from Selly Oak, along the Worcester and Birmingham into Gas Street Basin to the Main Line to the the Netherton Tunnel spur. From here I went then along the Old Main Line to Dudley No 1 Canal by the Black Country Museum. Then there's an overland slog where I used some of the Kingswinford Railway path before re-joining the Dudley No 1 canal near the junction with the Dudley No 2, The Dudley No 2 took a winding route to the Bumblehole junction (where the other end of the Netherton Tunnel emerges) before some more riding the Gorsty Tunnel. A short overland hop brings us back onto the Dudley No2 for a short while before the ride finishes just before the tunnel under Mucklow Hill. I returned Selly Oak by riding along the paths in the Woodgate Valley Nature Reserve
Make sure you look for the house that has a ventilation shaft for the Gorsty Tunnel in it's front garden at around 21:36 minutes
Despite the wet winter the offroad paths were in pretty good condition for all but a few yards at the end of the ride - I was expecting worse to be honest. I did geta little lost at time on the road sections but more because I missed a few turns and there's some new building in a few places
There's no doubt that we're very lucky living around Birmingham that there are so many miles of canals available in really incredible countryside yet only a few miles from Britain's second city. I have been riding them for a few years and there are still sections I have yet to ride and explore
I found this route thanks to ‪@cyclingn8‬who not only made a much better video of this route (with some talking and more background!) but also uploaded a Garmin route that I could adapt - Thanks

Thanks for the mention! Really love to see people riding the routes I share. Birmingham and the Black Country have so many interesting places to ride a bike!

No problem - we clearly share a locality and an interest in cycling. This was a totally new area for me and I don't think I'd have found this route without your videos
Thanks for your other videos as well
