The Carl Gustav M45 was in use when I did my military service in 1984 in Sweden, an excellent weapon in close combat, eg in trenches, was used by the US in Vietnam as well
Well now, the Swedish K (M45 Sub Machine Gun) may not be new and flashy,. Nor is it hard hitting or have a long reach. But for close quarters fighting and self defence it is one of the easiest to use and dependable weapons you can have. Just one Swedes opinion...
Not particularly worse than any other 9mm submachine gun really minus the dated ergonomics. its just in general a 9mm submachine gun is not what most would prefer in an open field war
@@therideneverends1697 What open field war? Don't you think that it is EXACTLY the type of weapon that is useful in house-to house - CQB (when any are left standing), and Trench clearing? Because that is what the Ukrainians are doing right now. Also, they aren't just throwing away their assault rifles.
The weapon he is showing at 9:30 was not retired in Sweden in 1965. I used it during my own miltary service and I was born in 1961... I don't know when we stopped using them, but they were used way into the 80's, for sure. For certain kinds of close combat, it is a very capable gun. It is extremely simple and reliable. At 100 m it is quite accurate as well. It is a 9mm parabellum gun, so it doesn't pack the greatest punch, though. I'm not saying this diminish their hardships or lack of equipment, but fact are facts.
@@UnknownHumanOnline The size of the cartridge and the bullet are about the same as for a 9mm pistol, which means there is not very much of a powder charge behind the bullet, even though the caliber is larger. Parabellum (means "for war") is a stronger type of ammunition for the submachine gun. It is still much less powerful than rifle type 7.62 or 5.56 ammunition, which have a higher velocity. Patent? I don't think so...
Swedish Home-guard used it until April 2 2007. Sweden had a spiced up 9 mm round that was far hotter than standard Nato 9mm. With that round loaded and the 36 round magazine no russian would be happy hit at trench distances. Body armour? The round easily penetrate "normal" pistol safe armour. And one just aim for the crouch or the face anyway. Any more reason to pick a m/45? It is silly tolerant to dirt, snow and sand. Obsolescence do not mean useless. Why is a Ukrainian soldier paying for an American weapon out of his own pocket? It makes me despair. As if things aren't bad enough already for brave Ukrainian troops. Their very courage is being exploited.
Because he didn't want to get an AK, which is issued by the AFU. Some units got lucky and get issued grots, malyuks, m16a3 and even ar-15 but this is probably like a quarter of the army. Majority gets ak-74 but it's not that strict in the Ukrainian army so soldiers can buy any weapon they want with their own money. Same with uniforms, armor, and helmets. Ukraine does issue their own uniform and gear but a lot of soldiers buy their own gear whichever they prefer.
He bought the scope which is probably a thermal and night vision scope. They weren't sent that many scopes. Even in the west most scopes at that level of quality aren't issued to every soldier.

THE GPMG USED THE SAME ROUND 7.62 X 51 MM NATO ROUND. If they have taken out the GPMG, the Infantry won't have any Fire Power left. It fired 800 round per minute. I could get 68 rounds on target out of 80 rounds at 500m No Scope. 1972. I loved the FN FAL 7.62 X 51 mm rifle .Fired the same round, as the GPMG. Nice to say "peace talks" and "cease fire" but "cease fire" just means give your enemy time to re-organize, re-arm, set up for new attack. When the US withholds ammo from Ukraine that puts Ukraine at a lower position which is a lower position to negotiate peace from.

You do understand that Russia's interests are to take over not just Ukraine, but multiple countries until they can make their borders defensible again right? That means Estonia, Moldova, Lithuania, Romania and Poland. There is no negotiating with Russia here, they will simply rearm, regroup and continue an attack. Peace talks are not an option with the terms Russia wants, not on a principled level, and not in a reality grounded level. Nor would Russia frankly keep the terms.
How? Russia is expansionist. this was always going to happen, the only matter of what can be avoided is if its stopped in Ukraine before it spreads elsewhere
This war is obscene; peace is now the most sensible option for the Ukrainian people. Johnson’s scuppering of the Istanbul draft peace agreement was a stab in the back for Ukrainian people. This hell was avoidable. So tragic…
Stop repeating Russian propaganda, Johnson did not do anything accept giving support to Ukraine to fight against brutal Russian aggression. And there was no "peace draft" in Istanbul, that is a Putin's lie. Putin does not want peace, if he did he can end this war by removing his fascist army from Ukraine.

The Carl Gustav M45 was in use when I did my military service in 1984 in Sweden, an excellent weapon in close combat, eg in trenches, was used by the US in Vietnam as well
Well done for showing the true life of the brave troops of Ukraine. You and your crew, also need to be acknowledged.
I remember the British Sten gun

I wouldn't stand in front of it.
Isn't 9mm better than 5.56 or 7.62? I heard it was patent issue. And yes it was used in Vietnam war..
No definitely not!!!!?
@@jameslynch7826 hard to tell exactly what you disagree with here...
So I'd like to know what round they feed this SMG with. That is the main issue with an SMG.

Why is a Ukrainian soldier paying for an American weapon out of his own pocket? It makes me despair. As if things aren't bad enough already for brave Ukrainian troops. Their very courage is being exploited.
Lol the ones we sent ended up in africa .
