- What often differentiates good tobaccos from great tobaccos is nuance. It's the subtle alterations that commend a particular mixture, perhaps through a well-aged component, the minimalist addition of a proprietary top note, or the application of long-term pressure. It doesn't take much to modify a blend in interesting and gratifying ways.
Take Small Batch: Sun Bear, for example - it's a Virginia flake with just enough Orientals to enhance the blend with fruit and elderflower characteristics without dominating the overall experience. A hint of tequila accentuates the subtle elements of the Virginias and Orientals, and a whisper of honey supports the other components with its own natural sweetness.
This is the fifth instalment of the summery mixture; its recipe remains the same from year to year except for the honey employed. That changes each summer, not in the amount used, but in the honey itself.
The first two years of the blend utilized honey harvested by C&D Head Blender Jeremy Reeves from his own hives. What followed the next year was Sun Bear Black Locust, using honey from Victor Seested of Maryland, whose bees harvested from the famous black locust trees of the region during their short bloom. The year 2022 brought us Sun Bear Mountain Flower, employing honey from Morganton, North Carolina, where Cornell & Diehl resided for most of its history.
Sun Bear Tupelo is this year's 2023 submission, commending itself with ethically harvested tupelo honey from the Register Family Farm in northern Florida.
Blend description.
A blend of the finest Bright and Red Virginias balanced by 2019 Basma and 2018 Izmir Orientals, Sun Bear: Tupelo features subtle notes of raw, ethically sourced tupelo honey from the ancient wetlands of northern Florida.
Produced from the nectar of the white Ogeechee tupelo tree during a short two-week bloom, tupelo honey is among the rarest in the world. In this blend, the honey's unique profile combines with a whisper of silver tequila and elderflower to complement the fruity and floral notes of specially selected tobaccos, resulting in a rich pipe blend with a wealth of character and a creamy, rounded finish.

That’s a lovely comment you posted Allan. You don’t need much to enjoy a pipe. One or two pipes or corn cob’s & a few blends you like & are easily accessible, sit down with a nice cup of coffee in comfortable armchair or in your garden or in a park, anywhere where it’s quiet and peaceful. That’s all you need to enjoy a very relaxing & stress reliever hobby. Enjoy ☺️

Yes it was Daniel. This video was recorded 2 weeks ago. Currently I am at home since Thursday trying to recover from what ever it is for the coming week. Thank goodness some improvement. I am hopeful I manage to get to work tomorrow.

As for this blend i would have loved to try it but as you say once they have sold out it is not easy to get hold of a tin. You described what you tasted in this blend; so, by definition your description is correct. I might taste something different, so my description of this flavor would also be correct for me. This is something I learned from a wine tasting club years ago. Thanks!
You are quite right John as I Myself said the same exact thing in one of my previous videos I think it was when I spoke about why some don’t taste the same nuances as described on the tin or by others.Thanks for raising the correct terminology.
Nice review my friend. That is a beautiful pipe! Tupelo, honey is the only honey that does not crystallize. I was amazed that you were able to use a butane lighter outside. Whenever I go outside, I bring my trustee zippo pipe lighter. When I’m inside, I use matches and butane lighters. I love butane lighters when I’m out of the wind. Next year, I hope you can find a friend coming From the states that can bring you as many tins of Sunbear as you would like. God bless you. John.

If you shorten the wick, the flame will be much smaller. I hope that helps. Maybe you could experiment with it to see if it will work for you. Have a blessed weekend. John.

I indeed ordered a few Haymaker tins but Instead of the Dockworker I ordered a few pouches of Salty Dogs that I was recommended to try. I hope all arrives to me without delay.
