    Excellent trimming. I especially like the resulting climb-glide transition. Very professional. Kudos!

      Thanks! It actually worked well enough to earn my podium spots in two events at the US Nationals a few weeks ago. Felt really good as I wasn't expecting to do that well!

    I just love your videos. Its fantastic! I'm a RC guy, but I have bought my first rubber powered model because of you.

    That descent rate after DT...in some of our southern thermals, may not be enough to get it down.
    Hot power FF trim always fascinated me...it has to roll left while yawing to the right.
    Nice job on it!

    • @joshuawfinn
      @joshuawfinn  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's definitely a fun airplane. The descent rate is deceptive...it's easily 50% higher than a typical rubber model. Regardless, gonna be dicey out West in those Colorado thermals it'll have to deal with.

    I'm really a rc flyer but after watching your videos really want to try free flight Did some trials when I was a youngster with a sail plane. Anyway like your videos 🙂

    I do R/C freeflight. You simulate the motor time, by just down-throttling. I have the equivalent of a DT by mixing a spare channel (flaps) to elevator to put it into a deep stall. If there's a bit of forward motion in the deep stall, rudder can stir it. Lots of fun.
    I highly recommend R/C freeflight.
    Safe for small fields.
    And you don't have to do some much walking.

      The BMK E36+ timers we're using now are the best on the market. Much better than the one in this vid.

    Mr josh, you can also reduce pitch by turning the prop around. am sooo jealous of your flying area, just walk out the back door....... must be rough

    • @joshuawfinn
      @joshuawfinn  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah that makes sense. I have a ton of props, as most electric fliers do because props get broken often in competition, even when you don't crash.

    I would rather choose a 2 channel car transmitter and receiver with a coreless motor and brushed ESC, you only need 20g/0.7oz of thrust and a servo for the dethermalizer when braking and a servo on the rudder paired with the steeringwheel to keep it save.

    • @joshuawfinn
      @joshuawfinn  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You could very easily do that on this plane.

  • @jimbo2629
    @jimbo2629 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Any faster descent and the wings will break as it hits the ground.

    • @joshuawfinn
      @joshuawfinn  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually the pylon is the weak spot on this one. The wing is impressively strong (and needs to be at those climb speeds).

    Make one using 6 / 2.7v 10f to timer run then glide. I do believe you can make one 25 grams lighter.

      @@joshuawfinn Hi Joshua. Thank you for your reply and please accept my apology if I have offended you. In my defense, I was left unattended! I imagine that you are very busy and I'm impressed that you take the time to read and respond to comments. I have been a subscriber for some time and I am in awe of your talent with all manner of model aircraft. With respect, you do mention RC in this video. 05:30 "another way to do it is to use RC throttle" and continue to speak about RC applications in free flight through to 06:00. Both Walter Clark and prep0wer make comments which indicate that they also interpret you as talking about RC in the context of free flight. That said, no harm intended. I'm a scientist with OCD! 'Just give me the facts.' I am keen to purchase from you but exchange rate with Australian dollar plus freight to Australia REALLY ramps up the cost. Perhaps I should just bite the bullet and prove that I can keep the faith. Cheers, Mark O

      @@markodonoghue9526 no worries. I do advocate for using RC as a safety protocol on really hot models...I believe RDT/abort is now mandatory in F1C. And that's basically how I use RC in trimming--throttle on a switch to avoid a partial throttle setting. Glad you're enjoying the content and no worries about being left unattended--I'm just as unruly!
