I learned more from this video than I did in college, getting a degree in fashion design...Our illustration "class" was just a model, and no instruction. I payed THOUSANDS for those classes, btw...
I cannot believe I just watched a bunch of scribbles turn into a perfectly formed fashion illustration right before my eyes. Thanks. Wonderful and inspiring.
Really learned a lot in 20 mins. Today I'm going to practice the action pose and just letting it be free. Also paying not too much attention on too much detail in the beginning...light comes from left side! I ASPIRE too develop my skill like you. Truly amazing. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for creating this video. I am taking Fashion Illustration at the Community College and we spent an entire evening on drawing stick figures and proportioning the fashion model.
Man I wish I would've seen this tutorial when I was younger, when I was drawing princesses all the time. I woulda been the best princess drawererer of all. Seriously though, thanks. Super helpful and exactly what I was looking for! Thanks, Yelen.
Holy crap, this was an awesome tutorial! Why? (I'm glad you asked!) The layers that you used helped to establish the idea, then build up on it without it being a cluttered mess that seemed to go no where - a problem I often have when I (try to) draw. Even though I've heard this idea many times, you presented it in a new way. The lines you drew also helped to give convincing form and realism to the design. You were fast and efficient, and you made it look SIMPLE! Thanks for the post!
Love watching the simplicity of the stylized line art. Simple Simple Simple, fast and it resembled something that you could recognise as a fashion illustration. :-)
I love how positive the comment section is :) This is a really helpful tutorial as I love Moscow street fashion and I want to design outfits inspired by the culture of it. I find it hard to not add intricate details early in the sketch process so this could really help me nail the pose and anatomy rather than the face and hands etc.
I love drawing but never could get the hang of gestures. I see these character artists doing gesture sketches in less than 5 mins and I'm like "tell me your secrets" lol...
I found this really helpful!! I'm trying to get into this really famous school and one problem I had with sketching was thinking too much about it and worrying while I draw. You made it look so easy and I hope that with a little more practice I can send in a portfolio that will hopefully get me a scholarship!! Thank you so much!
I seriously needed this. This was my major problem when i was trying to start hand drawing my sketches. i couldn't grasp how and where i should start when making illustrations and it seriously bothered me. This just made everything a lot easier.
Well, this just popped up and made me happy! I tell people that I cannot sketch. Any other art or craft, sure, I can do it! Calligraphy, even...yes! Sketching and painting, not so much. You have inspired me to "try less", if that makes sense! Just let it go and loose my perfectionism. That's what kills my drawing. Hope you are doing well amidst the crazy stress of 2020. Blessings and gratitude from Texas!
this takes lots of practice!! the approach that you use for this sketch is a good one. it is easier to sketch the countour that you want, then apply the actual shape of the body afterwards. it is a quicker process!
Thank you very much, for the tutorial and advice,oh and the mistake you mentioned that most fashion designers make like you said is in taking a work too seriously and then having trouble abandoning it that is a problem that I encounter a lot.
I love drawing juxtapose or counterpose style poses like the ones at 6:50. Not "too" hard to draw but its so much more interesting looking than just standing straight.
thank you so much for the tutorial!! I love fashion design, but I always suck at the sketches, I'm not a good drawer. I think I get it now, I pay too much attention to detail. The structure really helped me understand it better. Thank you!!!
Great tip about warm up sketches it's always take me a few trys to get a figure I can work with. Your finished product looks nothing like mine do but I will keep on practicing
this tutorial is amazing. i've been drawing all my life but with more of a comic style, not professionally and lacking form. introduced a bit of proportion and your technique bam looks great.
I learned how to draw bodies better by going to the library and getting books... My favorite book is entitled "9 heads". It was super explanatory and helpful. When I went to Fashion school I found the same book in my resource library, check it out!
sat here for five minutes with mouth open and hands up. like hoooow though. I love the sketching not sure if its as effortless as you make it seem theres an assumption of being able to sketch.
you r amazing! u r such an inspiration to me! I know im only eleven, but you r my idol! i bought a few copic markers which i had to beg from my parents and i try to do this everyday! i wanna be a fashion designer like you one day! i hope u see this! like this if u support my dream!
Superb drawings! Wow! I really love the style. ;-) (If only I could ever learn to do that...?! Of course, experts make everything look really simple, straight forwards, and, easy. But, for someone who can't actually draw very well; then, indeed, it's tremendously difficult...with mistakes being made all over the place...!)
You have a very nice line! I like your comment about one should not be to precious about the strokes, I really need to practice that. Thank you for posting great stuff and also for showing the tools you use in detail :D
wow! I loved this video! I always stress about getting the body sketch just right but this video showed me that I don't really have to stress about it when I can just do something like this and fix the body later :)
Prismacolor, but this was at a local art store having a sale.I think they sell on Amazon also. Yeah I can't wait to try out the yiynova and see what it can do. No problem.
Thank you for your video! I have been struggling and spending a lot of time doing my sketches to the real model. hope you can make more videos...Brilliant!
Hi Yelen,I would ask you about the fabrics for knitwear :it's important for an illustrator or graphic designer to have a good knowledge about?Thank you for your accurate videos and explanations.
just google the words 'fashion illustration stencils' , copy n paste into a word doc, make it as big as you want and then print! it's really easy, just put the page you printed under a plain paper and trace it, you can use a light box for this but you can do it without it. My textiles teacher taught be this method, good look!
at first i was like lmao he cant draw but then when i saw the end result i thought it was liike magic anyways you have incredible skill and a creative eye thanks for the tutorial!
Fantastic tutorial! This is the second one I am watching. Any chance you will be uploading more? It is amazing to see you sketch, and all explanations are very clear. :)
Hi Yelen, Were you always this good or did you practice to be this perfect. I want to go into fashion. How does it take to perfect your drawing skills. I am good at art btw. :-)

I cannot believe I just watched a bunch of scribbles turn into a perfectly formed fashion illustration right before my eyes. Thanks. Wonderful and inspiring.
Even your "abandon-able" sketches are beautiful.

I seriously needed this. This was my major problem when i was trying to start hand drawing my sketches. i couldn't grasp how and where i should start when making illustrations and it seriously bothered me. This just made everything a lot easier.

That's why I LOVE COPIC markers, because if you color with it, especially red, it will looks like really fabric!
I love your wind chimes outside, the way you draw is not what I expected but it makes so much sense now the way fashion concept art looks.
this takes lots of practice!! the approach that you use for this sketch is a good one. it is easier to sketch the countour that you want, then apply the actual shape of the body afterwards. it is a quicker process!
its amazing how you can make something so simple, beautiful

That's adorably!
How long one should practice to be able to draw like that...
Thanksss soo much
Helped alot! Thanks :-) great design by the way! That top would look great with some dark denim if it was just a crop top.
