As an American I am glad we have Canada to our northern border. They may be a completely different country from us. But we are basically family. I attended a Daniel Smith pre election gig in Hanna Alberta and I can tell you she is a sincere, normal person who is very similar to Pierre Poilievre, She will put Alberta AND Canada first unlike our eastern counterparts who put Quebec ahead of everyone and everything.

PP actually has principles and is much more measured, thoughtful, and restrained than she is. Smith is much more like Doug Ford as they both pander to their base, make up policy on the spot, insert foot in mouth, and then issue corrections 10 mins later. The potential issue with PP is that he has never held a real job in his life. When PP becomes Prime Minister, Smith is going to lose the ability to blame everything on the Feds and PP is going to have to deal with an incompetent premier that shoots her mouth off daily like an petulant child. The issue with all politicians is competency. Are they competent or not? The reality of public policy and complexity of society is that most of the time the best decisions are generally somewhere in the middle because there are always competing priorities and consequences. This is not to be confused with pandering to everyone and taking no responsibility for decisions aka Trudeau. You will never please everyone, but you can be competent to juggle competing interests and make decisions that are sound in both short and long term.

Alberta (and Canada) has refineries - Alberta opened a new one just year as I recall - and you’re absolutely correct, it’s better to add value to our products. That said, refineries cost billions, take many years to build, and are extreme economic risks. I have faith that we’ve done the homework and have the right number we both need and can afford.

I attended a Daniel Smith pre election gig in Hanna Alberta and I can tell you she is a sincere, normal person who is very similar to Pierre Poilievre, She will put Alberta AND Canada first unlike our eastern counterparts who put Quebec ahead of everyone and everything.
You have no clue what you are talking about. She is an incompetent troll that only panders to her base. She has no principles as and is nothing more than a soundbite machine. Her whole shtick is to blame Trudeau and Ottawa for everything including a great many things that are not federal issues. PP actually has principles and is much more measured, thoughtful, and restrained than she is. Smith is much more like Doug Ford as they both pander to their base, make up policy on the spot, insert foot in mouth, and then issue corrections 10 mins later. The potential issue with PP is that he has never held a real job in his life.
When PP becomes Prime Minister, Smith is going to lose the ability to blame everything on the Feds and PP is going to have to deal with an incompetent premier that shoots her mouth off daily like an petulant child.
The issue with all politicians is competency. Are they competent or not? The reality of public policy and complexity of society is that most of the time the best decisions are generally somewhere in the middle because there are always competing priorities and consequences. This is not to be confused with pandering to everyone and taking no responsibility for decisions aka Trudeau. You will never please everyone, but you can be competent to juggle competing interests and make decisions that are sound in both short and long term.
I haven't met Danielle Smith in person, but I have met Pierre Poilievre. Had a very cool and based conversation. He took his time to chat with me and came across as a genuinely likable and approachable person.

Alberta (and Canada) has refineries - Alberta opened a new one just year as I recall - and you’re absolutely correct, it’s better to add value to our products. That said, refineries cost billions, take many years to build, and are extreme economic risks. I have faith that we’ve done the homework and have the right number we both need and can afford.

As a native Canadian and firstly, Albertan, I have had many decades to consider this option.
After watching the backsliding that has occurred over the last ten years, I now believe that we would have a brighter future if that happened.

I understand, l had 9 black walnut trees on my property. It was so much work getting the walnuts out of the outer shell. Plus l had to wait until the shell was rotting to remove the walnuts. That's what gives the walnuts the black color. It was a mess. I did it one year, and the money return was good, but l lost interest.

The tariffs only apply if Canada continues to insist on letting their borders leak like a sieve (which is something no self-respecting country ought to allow in the first place), while the Keystone Pipeline XL promises a very enriching financial opportunity that is made all the more lucrative if the tariffs are made unnecessary.
@@OneBiasedOpinion Canada's borders don't leak like a sieve. Don't forget, if the tariffs come so will there be counter tariffs, it works both ways. In 2019 the Trump tariffs lost 200,000 US manufacturing jobs and ruined agriculture markets for US farmers. Some of you guys aren't smart enough to learn the first time.
