    Hi Mr. Heaton.
    You are one of the most soft spoken,kind hearted, truthful human which translates into your photography. I do enjoy your videos very much. I belong to a different country, different culture, different age group etc. but the dreams we often aspire that doesn't happen in just one lifetime. Yes! I try to live through your eyes with my soul attached to your photographs. I wish you a very happy life,may you present us with many more marvelous 'art'.

    Thomas, I saw your video. The Phase One camera is an amazing piece of equipment. I was lucking to start out with their system about 9 years ago. Without a doubt this is my go-to camera. I have also upgraded as each new camera has come out. I currently use the IQ4-150 system. I've shot lots of panos with this system. Somehow, even though I have other premium DSLRS, it is the Phase One that goes everywhere and I shoot 90% of my shots with it. The color and the tones in the resulting images are simply amazing. All together this is my third body / system from Phase One. When a new system comes out my Phase One dealer takes my older Phase One in trade. So the financial pain of moving forward is much more affordable. Getting the first camera was the big hurdle. Cheers

    • @ThomasHeatonPhoto
      @ThomasHeatonPhoto  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It must be amazing to own such a system, but I'd be so worries about breaking it or having it stolen. I suppose that's what insurance is for.

    • @guyloughridge4628
      @guyloughridge4628 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ThomasHeatonPhoto I do have my camera gear insured. I do reasonable measures to keep them safe, but I use them all the time so they are out in the pubic. At first I held them like babies, now I simply use them… they are now familiar in my hand. As soon as I pick them up the neck strap keeps them from falling. Once they are on the tripod that’s when I relinquish the straps. The quality of results are worth the risks.

    Amazing camera! For someone who spent years shooting 4x5 I really like the vertical and side shift feature. And the start up time is a non factor after all the time I spent setting up the 4x5 for each shot. Looking forward to seeing more of your shots with the IQ4. And, as someone who has been there with the vehicle camping, I agree totally with your choice of the free apartment. Hell yeah! :)

      Exactly. Some of my colleagues were just smiling at me when I answered them in similar fashion about how I like to shoot with the Phase One. They are at most full frame dslr shooters.
      I remember the first time, back in 2016, when I just joined the company (Phase One), and I got the 'staff kit' for my 3 week long trip. (It was back then DF+ bodies, and IQ380 full frame and IQ350 cropped backs (same sensor as Thomas' camera has), so a bit more cumbersome). Before that time I was shooting landscape on my Cambo SC and compared to that it was way too easy and light. With the CMOS backs it became even more simple to photograph with a Phase One.
      To be honest, since 2016 I did not expose a single sheet of film because of that.

    Hi Thomas, great video and love your photos. Nice camera - bit out of my price range. I also like to comment on your quality videos. They are very professional and you balance sections with music and no music when you talk. There are sooo many you-tubers who always play loud music in background making it very hard to understand any spoken word in their videos. You are getting this 100% right. Thank you.

    That is indeed a stunning camera system Thomas! I had an IQ4 back for a while and it was amazing! But ultimately cost (insurance was expensive as well in my part of the world) along with lack of lenses, portability (I often hike with my camera system), slow startup and limited battery life made my move back to a more conventional system. But the images you can get from that sensor stays amazing!

In terms of believable, emotionally charged colour, it has the best picture quality I have ever gotten out of a digital camera. These old school phat pixel late 90’s camera backs have a lot going for them.

    I like the size of that sensor. And is it really that expensive? All depends on how and where you spend your money. A new mid size 4wd pickup decently equipped will run close to $50,000. Aftermarket gear to make an overlander can easily add another $20,000. So which do you do? Highest resolution camera with 3 lens, a sturdy dampening tripod and lighting to boot or a decked out midsized overlander. Mmm... I think I'm gonna have to have both.

    In my area there are quite a few photographers that shoot with the Phase system - really great images. The Phase support from our local dealer is top notch.
    I think your style of photography is very well suited to the relatively compact XT system.

    Phase one, 150 mp, £50k, I’ll happily test one on a temporary permanent f.o.c. loan basis, throw some lenses in to sweeten the deal and I’m in. Stunning quality, just stunning.

    Brilliant video Thomas! I've always wondered what it'd be like shooting with that big fella. Enjoy that Scotch!

    It's awesome that you got the chance to do a phase one camera and yes those things are extremely extremely expensive I don't know which is worse a phase one or a reds for expensive cameras that is but excellent video nonetheless have yourself a good one later on keep on driving keep on landscape photography shooting or something like that there was supposed to rhyme somewhere online but I can't do that right now my head's hurting too much later

    That intro was incredible 👏. I actually went and subscribed to Gavin just because I felt sorry for him only having 65k subscribers.

    Nice camera I have the old world film equivalent of this camera. The Corfield WA67 with mamiya rb67 back and the 6x8 back. The corfield wa67 shifts up and down but you cant change the lens but at around £4k its a whole lot cheaper than the Phase One. I used it for my architecture work 20 years back never tried landsape with it

    Nice to see the XT in action with the IQ4. For landscape photography it's wonderful. My favourite lens is the 90mm. If you already own a Phaseone medium format back you can trade up. It's not that bad a deal. At the moment I use a 60mp medium format digital back which is enough for me on an Arca Swiss F Metric which has much more movement. The XT is too restrictive for an architectural photographer. Not quite enough movement. Would be good to see you use the frame averaging feature. I've already bought the Leica S system with CS lenses for dance photography. So I'm not trading up yet to the IQ4. It is a good option for advertising photographers though. With all these systems it's the batteries which can surprise you. Always check them for expansion. It's rare but they combust. I keep all my lithium batteries for my different cameras in fire proof bags in an ammo box!
