Hey guys, great video as always. I wanna share something about those drinks you got at the stall as a native Taiwanese. The “maqaw” is actually a kind of spice often used by the Atayal tribe. We also call it “mountain pepper”. I believe the scientific name for it is “litsea cubeba”. You often find it in aboriginal sausages or savory stir fry. Of course, you can put it in drinks, just like cinnamon or masala. Also, if you see people driving, riding a moped, or fishing in restricted/tourist areas, it’s just the aboriginal people going about with their daily life.
So interesting! We had no idea about the name for this "black pepper" type but realised it was the same one used in the Taiwanese Rice Sausages that we had later on in the video! very fragrant and tasty! From one side it it's nice seeing all the people enjoying coming to their region, but o the other hand, I guess it might be quite frustrating for the aboriginal people 🤔
9:2815:33 Mǎ Gào(Mandarin), it's a spice like pepper but less spicy and more like lemon smell. It's also called _Litsea cubeba_ , mountain pepper, "maqaw" in Atayal, "Mqrig" in Taroko, Mae'aew in Saisiyat.
15:17 the English translation is wrong on the sign, it is not intestine, it is that pork sausage on top of rice sausage . 😅they share the same word in Mandarine.. Hopefully, you will be able to visit Taroko gorge again as you basically only at the door of the gorge! And better, if it’s a sunny day (which is kinda rare)
If u happen to drop by any fruit juice stall in Taiwan I would urge you to look for honey bitter melon juice or papaya milk. These are Taiwan signature fruit juice that u hardly find outside of Taiwan.
The guy on the scooter who live in there that is only reason been allowed to do that. He is indigenous people and you stare him at their drive way😂😂😂 In the old days, they simply just take you head as trophy for real.😂
The “ice” of the shaved ice you had is milk-based. This is why it tasted like ice cream. The price is expensive because, well, milk is expensive in Taiwan.
wow!! the Taroko National Park is soooo beautiful!! the trail also so niceee!! haha i want to try the taiwanese sausage!! and sooo many food at Hualien night market!! i love it!!! 3😁
Maqaw is a spice native to Taiwan that looks like pepper corns but has a soapy taste to them. It is widely used by Taiwan's indigenous peoples in cooking and preparation of food.
Great vlogs. Keep them coming. Inspired by you and a few other youtubers, planning to visit Taiwan for 10 days next month. Do you think one can cover Yangmingshan, Beitou, Tamsui the first half of a day and Ywhliu, Shifen and Jiufen in the 2nd half?
Great 😍 We’ve made our guide as well with tips and all important info to remember before you go and whilst visiting the country, so if you’d be interested here’s the link: www.buymeacoffee.com/jayeshchhaya/extras. Hmmm it might be too much just in one day! To really get a feeling of a place you need couple of hours and all the things you’re thinking of are not located super near to each other 🤔 If you like nature, we would definitely spend at least 2 days in Taroko National Park. Jiufen is quite small so you’d only need half of a day but including the nearby attractions like the Jiufen Goldore Museum or hiking up the Keelung Mountain, and of course getting there takes time too, so it would cover the whole day! Unfortunately we haven’t been to Yangmingshan National Park but as far as we know it’s quite big 🤗
Hello We sincerely welcome your visit In addition to the above reminder It is true that travel has different definitions and experiences for everyone. Some are connected to every scenic spot Some of them have to go through all the streets, alleys and wilderness. It depends on your choices and expectations For example, Yangmingshan is a region Do you simply want to climb mountains or visit scenic spots?
Thank you for the message. I intend to do a hike that is not too hard. Tbinkibg of Mount Qixing. As @jayeshchhaya recommended, planning to spend one day for Yangmingshan and Beitou. Wobdering if I can squeeze in Tamsui as well on to the same day. If you have any thoughts, please let me know. Thanks once again.
I hope this time the sausage doesn't taste like pineapple. 😂😂 Normally the Taiwanese hotdog would cost you from $60 to 80 NTD but you're in a tourist area. 😄 BTW, the piece of pork inside the hotdog is probably wild boar meat 🐗 from the aboriginal people.
" Large intestine wrap with small intestine" The literal translation does not mean that they're intestines but just shaped like intestines but sausages. They are rice sausage wrapped with sausage inside.
Next time when in Hualien, we'll definitely plan to explore more of the trails and possibly stay over night in the park! We loved it so much so 1 day wasn't enough to capture everything it has to offer :)
I could have intro you to this Mexican restaurant in Hualien. Own by a Canadian friend and his wife is a Taiwanese. Pretty popular there. Taiwanese are generally very nice people.
Very cool! Sounds really interesting so maybe we can pop in next time! Becasue of the welcoming people and interesting history indeed, we’re planning to come back to Taiwan end of this year! Hopefully we’ll make it because of the political interventions it might be quite difficult 😇🤞
@@JayandKarolina ya sure. If u guys are planning to go and do let me know so I can give him a shout. He is my Call of Duty friend. But you do know Taiwan has been struck with strong earthquake just a month ago and even other districts of Taiwan encountered trembles. So best to be careful especially Hualien which is the happening place for earthquake. Otherwise, enjoy.
An estimated over 10000 people have trod around the island. However, some cut off Suhua road section to avoid bustling trucks. That's why you encountered the twosome stepping off from a train. An average of 30 to 50 days is needed to achieve the hohour. The said ongoing 77 days cound be suggested they use off-the-duty intervals to do this business.
@@JayandKarolina Depending on individual circumstances Some island tours or travel records are indeed divided into parts. For example, let’s take a walk this month take a vacation next month and then take the next step.
Glad you liked it! If we ever come back to Hualien, we would definitely want to stay overnight somewhere in the national park 🌳🩵 The nature was just breathtaking! 😍
We were so surprised because it was a Sunday and it ended up to be quite busy! However, it all did depend on the route - some places were occupied whereas less famous ones as you could have seen were empty 😇

The tea is not from Macau. It's a local indigenous pepper call Ma Gao. The sounds almost the same Macau.
Ahhh, it had sounded so similar! But eventually we realised it while eating the Taiwanese Rice Sausage 😇
This place is absolutely stunning! This trail is a beautiful sight, and the surrounding scenery is simply breathtaking. Bravo guys 👏👏
It really is! Glad you enjoyed the video 😍🌿
Taiwan is so beautiful.
We agree! We loved our time in the country but Taroko George just blew our minds 🤯🩵🔥

But the Taiwanese sausage part stole the show 🌭🎉😂
