That was a good lesson in knowing when your beat. Getting my gear ready for first end of lockdown trip! Love your video’s Steve, hope to see more very soon 👍
@@stevebutler7156 Hi Steve, I watched one of your videos where your triangular chair gave up the ghost. Did you find a suitable replacement yet? I’m trying to get all my gear small enough to fit in the panniers and top box so I can lock everything and don’t have to worry if I leave the bike. A chair is a camping essential for me and I’ve been looking at one of these on Amazon. www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B073W2PZY4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fabc_RSHX0ATG23WEABD81JNS?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 Looks like it should fit in the pannier at 16” in length and has good reviews. Any thoughts? Happy travels 👍😁
@@demonkey123 Hi Sorry I never open links from comments on TH-cam so not sure on which chair. But I have an Oex one from Gooutdoors it’s small and light about 30cm length. But most importantly has a bottom mat to attach to the legs stops digging in in soft ground. Well recommend 👍
Doug Cooper Thanks, yes I think it was.... As a bit of a heads up my next bike trip will be back in Scotland maybe similar area but with a tent. I need tyres and a service first have to wait till beginning of April probably film it Mid ATB Steve 😎👍
Three season camping kit Steve. But when the conditions need the sub Arctic season four upgrade and you are out of the comfort zone? Respect due, knowing your limitations is a very important survival skill. Keep your guy lines tight and live to tell the tale. 👌👌👌👍👍🏍️🏍️🏍️
I would have done the same Steve! It was still an adventure and as we learn and take on new challenges we need to be flexible. Thank goodness there was a decent place to stay.
Jamie Burgoyne My only regret about that vid I didn’t video the rain that came down soon after. But trouble with biking is once your wet and cold can turn nasty quick 👍
I had a miserable tent failure on my month long tour including Wales, England & Scotland last year (2017). It wasn't the right tent for the job, should've seen it coming but kept my head up my arse instead, lol. Spent two nights in a guest house whilst getting myself together, buying a new tent (in Aviemore) and continuing on my way. I also had to endure sciatica type hip pain (dosed up on pills) for a few days but refused to cave in. Southern England is a l o n g way back! Subbed and checking out your vids. Happy riding!
Mild Camper Hi sounds like you had a great time. Aviemore defl the place for outdoor replacements. Spent the night few winters back coldest night for years got down to -18c thankfully I was in a BandB ATB Steve :)
I have a feeling I know what spot you wanted at Glen Etive, fair bit down the road, left hand side (obviously) nice and flat. Though you could've went all the way to the bottom where there is a few places you can camp, another good vid though, glad I've found your channel.
Dug my tent out today and put it up, looking forward to Scotlands camp sites opening up, still restricted up here, not into wild camping but good to watch video
Hey Steve you were big enough to put this up; lesson learned. Did something similar myself; mother in law arrived, SO I went off in the forest on the bike (wild camping) IT SNOWED ''' managed to get bike/myself out of forest and came home; mother in law/wife laughed big time... I did too :-))) Nice tyre repair btw. I'm off myself soon wild bike camping again; you can't beat it. I'll be taking the tent though ;-) all the best Potski
Potski's Corner Thanks for that , I wasn’t going to put this up as I didn’t seem to have best content footage. But judging by all the great comments yours included I’m glad I did now ATB Steve 😃👍 Ps have yourself a great trip
I was also in Glen Coe last year & due to weather & kit Issues had to bail & drive back to Sheffield the next day. 650 miles for one over nighter just because I thought I’ll not need the tent as back up,. Glad you posted
Good decision making artfully demonstrated... live to ride and camp another day... that slope / water run off would have been dire. Loved the look of those hobbit huts though. Basic but very welcoming after the ‘decision made’, eh?
Glasshousebc if it wasn’t for the fact that I’d been beaten to the nice flat scenic bits by the River I reckon that Tarp would have stayed put. But slopy uneven ground hmmm yeh not the best spot. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍
Sue Taylor yes was a nice tea and a real comfy nights sleep in that pod. But it was a long way not to achieve what I really wanted to do. Hopefully this year I will be back to the same area. With a tent 😂 really appreciate you taking time out to watch my vids and commenting makes me happy 😊👍
Good on you Steve. Always enjoy your clips. These things happen mate. I have done the same thing myself and on more than one occasion. And that's in Australia with far more stable and predictable weather (at least where I am) than Scotland. Keep 'em coming.
Pity about the weather but you made the right decision, how do you like the tenere? I always carry a small 12 volt compressor and a plug kit. what model zumo is that? thanks.
Road Warrior Yes sometimes I get plagued by crap weather on my time off to do stuff. I’m not keen on Teneres to be honest I’ll stick with the Tiger. Funnily enough I now carry a small compressor underneath my seat with the tyre kit 😃👍
ANDYMCNET Thanks Andy. I do regret not getting some footage of me trying to put that Tarp Tent up in the lashing rain tho. Yeh the Forest might be a bit of a scary one. I have got a mate who also wants to check it out. We might end up going together not sure yet ATB Steve 😃👍

Tent is no guarantee of a dry night in Scotland. Did a site camp at Fort William back in the early eighties on a XS650 yam chop. Five weeks of near perfect sunshine, believe it or not. Third night all hell broke loose. Ended up wit 2” water IN the tent. Binned the tent and spent the next night with relatives who had a b n b at Crieff. 😄 Character building. 😉
Dont you worry Steve we all have those days when plans go wrong and the omens bode things might be against us. I pitched on Kinder Scout in 2016 at the end of a hot sweltering day of 26-27 degree celcius sunshine, used a DD Superlight 3x3 tarp. Great tarp couldnt fault it, pitched with one hiking pole in a tent configuration. Had dinner, watched the sun getting low with my two dogs, the next thing i knew as i looked over my shoulder was the blackest of skies. It was September 16th, the day when thunder and lightning storms hit the UK all the way from Cornwall to Scotland, caused chaos all over the UK. Well i couldnt break camp, didnt have time, had to sit it out, we got hit by severe lightning, heavy rain, strong winds, sleet, hail and even snow. This lasted for a good 40-60 minutes. Absolutely crazy storm, to get up would have put us at risk of being struck by lightning. The tarp took it all, how i dont know? We survived but only just, after the storm the groundsheet we were lying on was more or less floating, had to repitch and setup again. It had been that bad up there that my ears were still ringing from the noise of the thunder the next morning. When i was walking back down and meeting the locals they couldnt believe i had been up on Kinder through all that with my two dogs. Would i do it again? Never, Did you do right calling it a day? Definitely. I was lucky, you did right, you get no bonus points for getting hypothermia. There is always another day and another wild camp. Atb Bill.
Mals and Miles Wow 😯 that’s an Awesome tale. I must admit I had been looking at the weather and some sights had mentioned possible Thunderstorms that night. It had occurred to me what if and where I was is quite an open Glen. Think I made the right decision. But not such an exciting Vid 😃👍
Nice spot to be staying no harm to get a bit of recovery in a comfy place for a night. Hope dont have too many of those issues when i go next month dont think budget will allow it.

I should hopefully have my new bike soon so a Vid with that one will be in June sometime. Once again Thanks for Watching 😃👍
Have you ever considered using your bike as the "pole" for your tarp? Tie the tarp down on the low side of your bike and drape 6-8 feet of tarp off the high side. (So if your bike does tip, it tips away from you.) If you have more than 8 feet of tarp, fold the loose side back in under the tarp, toward your bike to make a waterproof floor. Anchor the corners with rocks or tie down to pegs. Check out "40 times around" youtube channel for more ideas about camping light on your bike....
I was looking at the amount of stuff you carry on the bike similar stuff to mine. Can't take much less. Yes the weather can catch you out, not like taking a car where you can bail in that if it comes to it. Feel more vulnerable on a bike. Luck of the draw haven't had to abandon camp yet, no shame in.
