    Sounds like a fun build Harv! If it’s legal, the guys at Engine Masters did a cool experiment with different heights, shapes and variations of velocity stacks on top of the carb. Some did very little, some did nothing and 1 or 2 of them actually made some measurable h.p. We’re not talking big gains here but as you said, freeing up all the little horsepowers here and there add up! Get well soon, we have a lot more to learn from you!

    Sounds fun, you know I really enjoyed this video today. I can't remember the last time I sat and watched a video for nearly half an hour and enjoyed about every minute of it. I guess i forgot how pure and down home your videos are, i really like that there isn't any interrupting ads, I'll be clicking back over here more often. I used to watch every video you put out. I even remember watching the ones of you playing guitar having your band on stage. Great stuff 👍

    Looking forward to watching this build. I’m a racer, run a street stock class which is similar. One thing about the vortec block, I’m not sure if they have the hole for the fuel pump pushrod, the 602 blocks do but I don’t think the truck blocks do. Might want to look at that before you send it to the machine shop. That is if you have to run a mechanical fuel pump.

    We are limited to 390/410 lift, no porting but you can spend some time on the valves, I would keep the 1.94/1.50 valves, back cut the intake valves and radius the exhaust valve between the face and the margin.

    Not engine related but I have noticed over the 24 yrs of dirt track racing I've attended theirs alot of speed available in the lower classes by making sure your rolling resistance is cut down as much as possible and having all your suspension parts moving freely makes a huge difference

    I like the concept for sure. I prefer lower compression ratio just to get more advance.never did this but I always thought about looking into different manufacture lifters to try and get the biggest diameter ones I could to keep them on the lobe longer.Might make a difference but not sure.

    • @snipepockets11
      @snipepockets11 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Compression equals power. You are correct about the lifters but there is a lot of machining involved. If he’s allowed roller lifters I would go that route, you can run a more aggressive camshaft with roller lifters.

    PAC springs are nice... stock vortec 906 heads are decent but... "IF" you're able to run a vortec 906 replacement head... I highly suggest the EQ CH350-C 😉
    (I'm commenting while watching... sooo my comments might be redundant. idk yet) lol

    • @RichFife
      @RichFife ปีที่แล้ว

      If you can run pump E85... you'll gain hp/tq. We ran 2.02/1.6 in our EQ 906s, we angle milled the heads 0-100... and we made slightly over 450hp with almost as much torque... but, we had 1.6/1.5 roller rockers, solid cam with .518/.526 lift. super light/short skirt pistons, with small/thin metric rings, light rods and a "light" crank (40#)... legal for SS. That motor focused on velocity in the ports and maximun cylinder volume/efficiency. Great little motor... fawker would pull all the way to Next Tuesday.

    • @RichFife
      @RichFife ปีที่แล้ว

      500cfm 2bbl VDL carb (I modified the metering block/passages/air bleeds)
      Edelbrock intake 7116
      EQ 906 heads angle milled 0-100, pac springs, Ferrea valves 2.02/1.6, scorpion 1.6/1.5 roller rockers, Jones solid dual pattern cam and lofter set, mahle metric ringed coated pistons, scat 4340 rods, scat f43 crank, sa gear timing gear set, 2 piece timing cover.
      Nothing spectacular or overly expensive... but it all just worked very well together! Anything will run good as long as everything works well together. If you can get all of the cylinders flowing/producing the same power (with-in the margin of error) one can build a lot of power for minimal costs.
      I prided my builds/cars etc on less money spent while beating the guys who spent the big bucks... most don't want to take the time doing their own research/homework.

    • @theironhorse6600
      @theironhorse6600  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well said rich!

    • @RichFife
      @RichFife ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @theironhorse6600 yessir. Probably nothing too useful in my replies... but I did a lot of research on vortec heads. 062s are for light duty use... 906s are medium to heavy-duty use... we found on the flow bench that the 906s actually flow better than the 062s... the 062s have induction hardened exh seats while the 906s have press-in seats... both castings have sharp internal corners in the coolant passage, creating hot pockets as well as relatively thin decks... hence why they tend to crack/pop when they get a little too warm. The EQs are a completely different animal... they flow extremely well, thicker, better castings, the coolant passages have been reshaped to flow better, and they corrected the sharp corners so there's no hot spots...

    @marcduclos9789 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    So, in Epping NH 1996 at Star back in speedway 1/4m track tar mild bank, most passing is done going into turn one and coming out of turn four. We used a 71-cutlass rear end in a 77 Monty and with the use of manipulating the torsion in the left rear and a chain raped around the right rear axle tub and a shortened coil spring sucked down with the chain made it stick coming out of turn four and we would get launched to cross over and get down under the clam we were chasing that lap. To make it stick going down on turn one was cause the alignment was catty wanked so when the two front tiers would be geeing down and around with that force, they would be evenly in contact with the road surface. Basically, the car had two zip codes of body roll. The engine had a silencer on it we had to try and not draw attention to that.We did rape the feulk line with tin foial. Flying Frank Bryian had come up with that as one of the tricks to keep from vaporlock when thing got hot under the lid. We had to keep the bowl gas from boiling. We were either on the floor or totaly off in the turns. Anybody say baffels.Extra....
