In case you are keeping Track this is Video # 120 of Classic Car ChitChat Videos!
I hope my Classic Car ChitChat videos make you smile. I do them in my spare time because I truly love cars and my intentions are simply to honour the beautiful cars I get to see and to really understand the passion and love of the vehicle by the driver (or caretaker as Jay Leno would say) of the car. I also understand too that my videos perhaps lack the polish calibre of great TH-camrs like: Doug DeMuro, Scotty Kilmer, and of course my favourite Supercar Blondie. I also know that I can’t even come close the quality & finish you get from the likes of Jeremy Clarkson and the boys at Top Gear. I think they use a little fancier equipment than my little iPhone… LOL
Mission Statement:
My Objective through creating these videos is to shine the spotlight on people who love their vehicles whether it be a car, motorcycle, or even a bicycle…. Bottom line is if it has wheels and you love it then let’s show that passion to the world!
Equipment Used:
Camera
- Just an iPhone SE (Nothing fancy - which proves anyone can use whatever you have handy to make a video… you don’t need really expensive equipment)
- I also use Insta 360X2 which is perhaps one of the best investments I have made and allows me to capture some really cool 360 degree views and also creates a “drone like” effect with the invisible selfie stick attachment.
Gimbal - DJI OM4 - For that ultra-smooth cinematic look. (To be honest... still not quite sure how to use it but one day I will figure it out!)
Audio - Rode Wireless GO II (I gotta be honest… this is really the biggest investment that was made… I wish there was a cheaper option but after the first couple of videos I soon realized that audio quality is important and hopefully better than the onboard mic on the iPhone!

This isn't just a car - it's ART
So true.
Beautiful place, beautiful car!
Nygel, you said it. I also wanted to take a moment to personally thank for watching my videos, leaving a comment and for subscribing to my channel I truly appreciate it.
My intention when creating these videos is to showcase not only the beautiful car but give the owner an opportunity to share their story, love and passion for their car. Thanks again Kevin.
There are cars and there are Studebakers. Hands down the finest automobiles of their time.
So true Jeff.
I love Avantis. I am just about finished with a years-long restoration of mine. They are beautiful cars, and they certainly get noticed wherever you drive them. I've had different people call me Mr. Bond, or ask where the ejector seat button is -- which is funny since Ian Fleming was an Avanti owner.
Hibernicus, (or should I call you James 😊), First of all thank you so very much for watching my videos and subscribing to my channel I truly appreciate it. My intention for the videos is to allow "ordinary" people who love cars an opportunity to speak about their car and why that car means so much to them. The car is extraordinary and what humbles me was that how advanced Studebaker cars were.. On par with many European car makers like De Tomaso.
To Hibernicus. Actually, they SHOULD have had this car in a Bond movie!
This is one truly amazing car and man it's hard to believe the technology of this car from 60 years ago.
You are correct there Diego.
Super cool car with some great design cues that modern day cars could use.
Absolutely!
Superb car.
Yes indeed!
I have been a fan of Studebaker all my life. My grandfather used to drive them too. This Avanti is a testament to their design and engineering which is miles ahead of other car makers from the time . The gentleman who owns it is incredible and a walking encyclopedia. His garage is phenomenal.
Ken, I would agree.. Roy is an incredible man and certainly knows his cars and especially has a passion for Studebaker
Coolest car ever.
I agree
Excellent video! Studebaker was one of the greatest. Its a shame they went out when they did. My 63 Avanti R2 awaits full restoration. Excited to get started soon!
Brad, thank you and you are absolutely correct as Roy really loves his Studebakers.
I also wanted to take a moment to personally thank for taking the time to watching my videos, leaving a comment and for subscribing to my channel I truly appreciate it.

My father and grandfather were Studebaker car owners and drivers and I learned to drive in our old farm truck. I never saw one of these until today, and as so many others have commented this car was ahead of its time considering it's 60 years old. Lovely video and thank you for keeping cars like this in our memories.
Julia, that’s great to hear that you come from a family of Studebaker lovers.
Great example of American Engineering
So true Steve.
I do love gold - but this RED really does look the part!
I have never seen the gold one but I’m sure she’s lovely too.
Awesome car and smart dude.
Sure is!
Absolutely stunning!
Thank you! Cheers!
The R 1 Avanti was rated at 240 HP. Roy stated that he thought it was around 200 Hp. The Supercharged R2 was rated at 289 HP. The R 3 version was rated at 335 HP. Some versions of the R 3 engine would produce just over 400HP .
Jack, First of all thank you so very much for watching my videos and subscribing to my channel I truly appreciate it. My intention for the videos are not to be "how to" videos (I think there are amazing videos made by others far qualified than me) instead my focus is to create a platform where "ordinary" people who love cars get an opportunity to speak about their car and why that car means so much to them. Thank you for that insight I will certainly share with Roy. Considering that kind of power back in the day.. Studebakers were well ahead of the pack. Kevin
Totally cool and uniq6ride with some slick style.
Agreed
He’s got an interesting collection in his garage: an Avanti, a Lark and an Edsel. The styling is 21st century, but the underpinnings are out of the 1950s and share much in common with the Lark.
Drakbar, First of all thank you so very much for watching my videos and subscribing to my channel I truly appreciate it. My intention for the videos are not to be "how to" videos (I think there are amazing videos made by others far qualified than me) instead my focus is to create a platform where "ordinary" people who love cars get an opportunity to speak about their car and why that car means so much to them. Yes you got it.. Roy has some wonderful cars and also a collection of just about everything imaginable. If you get a chance check out the video I made called "ULTIMATE MAN CAVE" - It's video #93.. I swear it will leave you speechless. Kevin
Very nice
Mark, I completely agree and so unique and ahead of many other car makers of that era. I also wanted to take a moment to personally thank for taking the time to watching my videos, leaving a comment and for subscribing to my channel I truly appreciate it.
My intention when creating these videos is to showcase not only the beautiful car but give the owner an opportunity to share their story, love and passion for their car. Thanks again Kevin.
Sharp looking car with a rocket engine.
Beast of a car
I love .......THE LARGE CAM THAT BOOSTED THE MOTOR UP TO 304 CU INCH ...OLD RACING TRICK ?
Bigbadwood (love the name) thank you for sharing.. that’s a great little trick. Another reason Studebaker was awesome.

Fantastic car and really cool guy who knows his cars.
Roy knows his cars.
Well he could learn the correct pronunciation of “ Avanti” . Also a special cam shaft did not make a 304 engine as he said. Studebaker had a 259 , 289, and 304.5 cu in. Engines. The Avanti came with 289s and 304s either super hard or not depending on if it was an R1, R2, R3, or R4. Nice to see his beautiful car and if you are fortunate enough to have such a car, you have a responsibility to know the correct facts about your car when you show it.
No he's not informed on his own car. But plenty disinformation he gives out.
No he doesn't even know the true facts of his own car. Too much muddled incorrect info. Please don't do a posting when you give out erroneous facts.
The last Avanti's to date was 2007 models. The Company in Cancun, Mexico did not go "bankrupt" anymore than Studebaker itself did. But, rather the owner became embroiled in a fraudulent real estate scheme which landed him in prison, and doomed the company. This car has a 64 interior, not 62/63. Studebaker was the first company attach the rear view mirror to the windshield.
Neil, First of all thank you so very much for watching my videos and subscribing to my channel I truly appreciate it. My intention for the videos is to allow "ordinary" people who love cars an opportunity to speak about their car and why that car means so much to them. You certainly know your Studebakers. For me truthfully getting to know this car was just beyond belief as to how far ahead they were.. And now the rear view mirror too... Amazing!
Nice red paint ,240 Hp, and the door latch is Mercedes Benz and makes the door a solid body part when closed ! 🥰🥰🥰

Sorry Studebaker was not first with Disc Brakes Crosley offered them as standard equipment on all four wheels late 1949 !🤮🤮🤮
Thanks for sharing
Studebaker was the fist mass produced U S car with caliper type disc brakes.,
Chrysler also had a form of disk brake (not caliper style) from something like 1950 to 1954 as a very expensive $400+ option and standard on the Imperial. All 4 wheels. Crosley had corrosion problems and had them only a little over a year.
