You saved my puppy’s life! I just came back to say THANK YOU! I’m still crying. I got my first puppy a few months ago, after two years of research (I didn’t want to screw up a beautiful innocent life). This video is one that I took note of, and you saved my pup’s life today. She was on my bed and we were playing, with no food. Why would she suddenly start making noises I’ve never heard, then stick out her tongue, and start drooling? She’s never drooled at all before. Wait… is she even breathing?! Not now!!! I didn’t know what on, but she was clearly choking on something! I remembered your video. I pulled on her tongue and did a mouth sweep; nothing. I did a couple little breaths for oxygen then a very careful Heimlich (terrified to injure on the first try). Incredibly it worked and she coughed and a big back tooth came up. The “W” shaped ones. I guess she inhaled it while we were playing our tug-a-war game. 😭 She gagged and puked and gasped for air, no different than a person would. She was really wimpy for a few minutes, and after I ensured her airway was ok, and no bleeding from a puncture, I gave her drips of water from a medication syringe. Thank you Sir, for this video, and all the many hours of excellent content I have watched and learned from! You are literally a lifesaver!
You didn't take notes well... You literally could've ended up killing your dog by doing rescue breaths before The Heimlich maneuver, that should've been your second move right after finger sweeping because you could've gotten her tooth jammed in her, then you'd be in a world of 💩....
@@vzvp602well it worked out and when panicking thinking ur gonna loose ur pup u might do a mistake on ur first try saving their life without experience..
Very helpful video, my Saint Bernard puppy had a choking scare in the yard this morning. I had a dim recollection of what to do for a choking dog but this video was helpful advice while I was sweeping his airway. I just learned through an acquaintance that their friend's beautiful golden lab choked to death from a small chuckit ball. Thank you for posting this valuable information. I will share it with everyone I know - non dog owners as well!
I lost my dog of 10 years since she was born. Due to her choking, I didn't know what to do, so I drove to the vet it was too late at 3am in the morning 😢😢 I was up all night/morning because of that ..damn I miss her
Thank you for sharing this! My daughter and daughter-in-law lost their lil puppy a couple years ago. She choked on a training treat; it was on a Sunday. They headed to the vets , who just happened to be there working on his entryway, but our sweet puppy couldn’t be saved. It was absolutely heartbreaking to lose her and so traumatic for my daughter and daughter-in-law.
Thank you so much. I actually saved an adult man and kids but didn't know you can do it on pets too. Good to know. It's crazy how people gets so panicky when they don't have the knowledge when it comes to a situation. Then here I come with the knowledge and I'm a hero for saving lives only because of the knowledge of constantly reminding myself and being taught. (Mom worked the medical field so I knew a lot about medical care when I was young hence why I don't get grossed out easily)
Thank you for this information!! My dad had to dislodge a bone out puppy had attempted to swallow and thankfully he was quick enough to grab it out before any real damage occurred! I just experienced my puppy choking on his kibble. Very scary, but I remembered seeing this video before. He threw it up and is fine. Had I not seen this, I wouldn't have known what to do. Thank you.💕
Thank God for your video man. I watched it forever ago , just got a puppy 3 weeks ago and he was just choking an I remembered this video and it saved my boys life ! Thank you so much man! You're the man!

THANK YOU SO MUCH for this clip. I watched it then two days later my Chihuahua puppy choaked on a eucalyptus seed pod here in Australia. What you taught kicked in and my puppies alive and now knows that Euc pods are not edible! THANK YOUUUU!!!
This saved my dogs life the other night. I just wanted to share that it’s NOT always apparent when a dog is choking!! My elderly dog had a large piece of pigs ear stuck in his windpipe. I was concerned because he was panting and breathing noisily but he was still responsive and wagging his tail. Luckily I googled his symptoms and was able to do the wheelbarrow technique and examine his throat - prior to doing the wheelbarrow I couldn’t see anything and after I could only see a really small non flesh colour item obstructing his throat. Very suddenly - whilst I was examining him - he went into severe respiratory distress and I was able to do the Heimlich manoeuvre and then manually remove the very large piece of dried pigs ear in this throat. I don’t know what I would have done if I hadn’t watched these videos. For anyone who isn’t already aware, just like i wasn’t: pigs ears and other dry, hard treats are MAJOR choking hazards for dogs 😢 Very grateful for doggy first aid TH-cam ❤
It doesn't help that some dogs are particularly brave with swallowing large items... I had a basset hound once that swallowed a rabbit whole... He threw it back up and tryed to eat it again😅 Also it's absolutely a good idea to keep an eye on a dog chewing something like rawhide. I'm sure I've left them unattended once or twice but I try not to.
Since my dog become pregnant i’ve notice she didn’t chew her food that much just swallowing it. Adding that she might afraid that our other dog might snatch her food. to her greediness, 2wks ago. My shih tsu choked. I tried the heimlich maneuver but it didn’t worked. Its already been 8minutes of struggling. while we were in the car going to vet, I decided i’ll try to get the food inside her as the final resort. When miraculously my hand reach on her throat, i felt a piece of a treat little bit bigger to the size of a quarter coin that was blocking her airway and got it out. So much thankful to God. As i was praying while doing that. He gave my dog a second life.
That dog laid there so still I thought it was a stuff animal at first .....I was like woo that's a real dog... lol... what a cool dog to demonstrate like that.

Thank you for this!! My puppy was choking and it finally went down but I realized I needed to educate myself how to deal with it if it hadn't went down on it's own! 🙌🏼
😊❤Thank you so much for all this valuable information. I am so grateful. It is so important to know how to look after my precious dog Shilo. I hope I never need to have to do this but it’s so good to know what to do so thank you so much again ❤
I actually just had this situation happen with my husky this week. Swipe your throat a couple times and I want up having to give her the Heimlich and she came around thank God. But my family was psychotic while this was going on picture three kids in Waze all screaming, but thank God it all worked out. Very happy to see this video and hope to see more like it.
We had a 3 mth old dashchund a year and a half ago choking on a plastic soda bottle cap that one of my kids left out. It was the scariest moment of my life because she is a dog and not a human which I am trained for as an EMT. I tried hitting her back and holding her downward since she was so small. That didn't work. I was afraid of anything else because I wasn't familiar with their anatomy and ao forth. Then I got on the phone trying to find a vet to just relay info to me (none of them would since it was a liability not being physically present), but as I was on the phone, my husband was able to coax it out some how. I think it lasted about 2 maybe 3 minutes total. She had agonal breathing and then foamed at the mouth which was how I discovered her choking. Needless to say, I am thankful you made this video as I am sure it could happen to someone else.
Thank you for sharing this information with pet owners ❤ This happened to me 2 nights ago with my service dog. She started choking on a treat, so I did a wheelbarrow-style doggy Heimlich (which was mentioned offhand in my Red Cross first aid/CPR class making a “J” with my fist and adding back blows. I got a chunk of chicken jerky out but she kept panting and salivating, and even started stumbling. I put her on my home oxygen while I packed up a bag, called the vet while putting on both our coats, and then stepped outside. In my panic and haste though, I’d forgotten that that day we’d accumulated 15” of snow. My car was the most buried it’s ever been - like standing on the snow, my feet were level with the top of my tires. I got her in there, cranked the heat up, and got the fuck to work. I used my cane and my scraper, and kicked the snow from around the tires, checking on her every few minutes. Almost 15 min later, I could finally see out of my windshield, my two front windows, and one mirror, so I buckled up and tried to back out, but my wheels just spun. So I got out and kicked at the snow some more, eventually clearing enough from behind the tires to get out of there. I drove as safely as a panicked person in a snow storm could. After vitals and a full neurological exam (cause she was sagging her butt when she walked - which turned out to be soreness from the position I used for the Heimlich) she got an x-ray which showed air in her esophagus which was an indication of inflammation, they said, probably from the jerky. Two hours later, we were on our way home. Every time we’ve gone to sleep since, I’ve kept my hand on her chest to make sure she’s breathing right.
Rescue breathes - for human infant CPR, rescue breathes were essentially filling your mouth to where your cheeks fill up and that's all you use for human infants, and I'm assuming you'd want about the same pressure for puppies that are small. With larger puppies, start small, and increase pressure slightly until you see the chest rising and falling. This training should be mandatory for anybody that owns a pet, and mandatory for any adoption center that allows pet adoption.
I was working in my backyard when my dog started to look like he was choking. I've never seen a dog choking but it definitely looked like he was having difficulty breathing and he was doing a dry heave kind of motion with lots of saliva.. I didn't know what else to do so as I was sitting on my knees I lifted him up against me with his back to me and did a few heimlich maneuver pumps on him just under his ribs... Nothing came out but He growled at me so I let him down to see if he was breathing better, he was still gagging but did seem to be breathing better. I noticed a piece of plant he had pulled over to his bed and was chewing on that had root growth hormone powder on it. So I'm not sure if he was choking because I always have to take rocks away from him or if he had a bad reaction to the hormone powder.. he's better now though 🙏🙏🙏
Was a witness to a puppy choking and dying earlier today.. 8 weeks old. I wish i had watched this before. Did a mouth sweep and checked for things, pushed on her chest while she was laying on her side to try to get it out then i resorted to how you would perform heimlich maneuver on a baby and tried smacking her back real hard. Gave her cpr and air on the whole drive to the vet and she did not make it. Glad to be informed now how to correctly perform this maneuver on a dog.
THE NOST VALUABLE INFORMATION!! My friend rang me the other day and her dog was choking I was there in a matter of minutes and done all of the above. I had no clue what to do. Luckily I have done human first aid courses and had a kind of idea. Unfortunately it was to late. It is the most traumatic thing I have ever seen and experienced. I did manage to get it out and done cpr but he wasn't coming back! I will carry this guilt for life but feel reassured that I done everything correct in this video although i will never not have guilt I truly hope that others see this video and manage to save a dogs life.
Thank you so much for this, right now my puppy was choking and looked he stopped breathing completely but he's fine now. (Sorry if my grammar is bad, this literally just happened)
So I've been told to do the doggy wheel barrow and also give the dog a blow on its back, but it wasn't mentioned in this video? There looks like there are different types of maneuvers to save a dogs lifw
I recently almost died from choking, and ever since then Im so much more cautious and aware. Although I genuinly worry if Im in a sitation where this is happening to onr of my dogs, I wouldnt do it correctly. Alao that is a very well behaved dog, just laying there all nice.
My baby (minipoo) had chewed off her bell from her collar this morning. When I noticed it, I was a "HOT MESS" I tried taking whatever she had and she ran away (thinking I'm playing chase but in-so-doing she swallowed the bell and it got wedged. She kept gagging and I was trying to get in her mouth but she squirmed soooo much that I couldn't control her. At one point, she even got scared and urinated on the floor...my mind/heart was racing soooo fast. I mean, they teach CPR for humans, (NEVER EVER OCCURRED TO ME) that I needed to know this for this little one and I've had several dogs and nothing like this has ever happened. I popped her on her hind and it just flew out....I was terrified my baby pup was going to die, I cried for 2 hours....she slept for 2 hours. She's doing better now but I needed to see this. Also, I think I'm going to purchase a harness for her bell to be "on her back" bc if it's under her neck I'm afraid she'd try chewing it off again. Any ideas because I have to have a bell on her (she's so tiny 8 lbs) otherwise I won't hear her when walking. Suggestions?
So you're saying if the dog is in a conscience you put the nose in your mouth and blow into the nose ? If they are awake and you can't get your finger in there to get nothing out underneath the rib cage is where you do the the maneuver and what about CPR is it under the rib cage or know it would be like I don't know to do CPR also
My dog just choked on a piece of my nephews glasses that he was chewing on… and i almost had a heart attack. I was wondering could u call 911 if their choking or just take em to the Vet
I literally just dislodged a huge wad of dry kibble encased in stomach yuck from my 4 month old toy schnauzers throat. It came out like a wet sock full of food. I swear this put me into such a near panic. Thank you for making this video!!!
@AmericanStandardK9 thanks me also. Thank God she was already heaving it, but it lodged. I pulled it the rest of the way out. When I pulled myself together I searched for help to understand better in the future, and your video hit first. I've already shared it with all of my friends. I never considered how easy it is to blow out lungs of a small puppy, you are spot in with that. And I was clueless about how to do the Heimlich maneuver on a dog. Brother, your video will definitely save lives one day. Thank you, God bless, and Happy Thanksgiving.
Aye Mr. Garrett... You drift off on me brotha. How do you properly preform CPR on a small doggo or pup ( I have a que quieres taco bell ) that doesn't have a pulse even after you got the choking hazard out????....
I wish people HAD TO KNOW this before getting a dog (or any animal in) it would have been a little better if you did a demonstration though so people could actually see what they needed to do.... Make a video for that! More views the better!❤🐾

Thank you I love my dogs as if they were my children. I want to be prepared for everything ❤️
You're welcome!
Is this the same for big dogs? I have a really big Newfoundland
My dog choked on a treat like 30 mins ago but she was able to swallow on her own. Phew I thought today was going to be a very different day...
Dude just happend to me. I was freakin. Out. wtf
I will carry this guilt for life but feel reassured that I done everything correct in this video although i will never not have guilt I truly hope that others see this video and manage to save a dogs life.
dog just chillin 😊😊😊
What breed is that puppy? Thank you for this video!
Your dog is so behave…👏🏼👏🏼
Thank you so much for this, right now my puppy was choking and looked he stopped breathing completely but he's fine now. (Sorry if my grammar is bad, this literally just happened)
So I've been told to do the doggy wheel barrow and also give the dog a blow on its back, but it wasn't mentioned in this video? There looks like there are different types of maneuvers to save a dogs lifw
Thank you
Curious...why the pinky? I have large hands and my little 4 month 7lb chihuahua mix can't take my fist.
Why not just your index finger?
Ads on this video is crazy imagine your dog is choking and you start seeing a 30 second ad
The only video there should be no ad on
So you're saying if the dog is in a conscience you put the nose in your mouth and blow into the nose ?
That’s scary! Glad your pup is okay!
Hey, youtube, maybe DONT put an ad before this.
Taping on back is bad idea?
Great tky I blew down her nose it work.. She's tiny 4 pounds I think it was phlegm... Keep doing God's work
Aye Mr. Garrett... You drift off on me brotha.
How do you properly preform CPR on a small doggo or pup ( I have a que quieres taco bell ) that doesn't have a pulse even after you got the choking hazard out????....
Thanks TH-cam my dog is choking and I had to watch a minute ad. Saved the dog but damn.
My dog choked earlier he saved himself but he looks exactly like that cutie little baby on the table
I wish people HAD TO KNOW this before getting a dog (or any animal in) it would have been a little better if you did a demonstration though so people could actually see what they needed to do....
Make a video for that! More views the better!❤🐾
No adverts and make the video short and sweet. For people panicking trying to save their dogs
My puppy just passed away yesterday. Im watching this to know how to help so if her sisters choking im not helpless
Why are ppl going upside down? Is it the same?
Watching a fifteen second unskippable ad while our dog was choking was so stressful
HAPPENING TO ME RIGHT NOW
@@WayPastCool oh my god isn’t it so frustrating?? I pray that your dog is okay!!
