I have done this journey many times for skiing holidays. The most memorable was when an old duffer drove his Subaru into the train just after we left Chur railway station! Train was delayed for 40 minutes or so while it was sorted out. Happily, the only injuries were suffered by the old boy's motor car...

Absolutely lovely, despite the glare. I love the metadata you edit into the video. Most of us “rail riders” are also geography nerds and it enhances the experience to be able to pinpoint your location. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

How my heart leapt when I saw you had filmed the Arosa Line. My enjoyment was not spoiled by the sunlight. I keep a rail map of europe and shade in the video cab rides I find here on TH-cam, and your films add to a big gap of my coverage of Eastern Switzerland. An absolute delight. MAny thanks. Greetings again from Port Moresby PNG.

Amazing video, brought back some great memories! In 1976 when I was 8 my grandmother took me to Switzerland and we stayed in the hotel in Litziruti and everyday we caught the train to travel to Arosa or Chur. I am from the UK and seeing this I would love to return when this Covid business is all over. Again thanks for posting, reminded me of being a young boy again having an amazing adventure with my grandmother! She died in 2011 with Alzheimer's, a horrible way to end your life, but this video helps me to remember her as the amazing woman she was with a love for travel and life and the friends she made on her trips to Switzerland. She loved Switzerland and this beautiful country always reminds me of my grandmother.

A long time ago I made this journey to and from Arosa in late February/early March. Lots of snow! I would really like to see it again in winter. Meanwhile, I really enjoyed this and thank you for showing the whole thing without edits.

Oslo's T-Bane takes passengers from the centre past Holmenkollen ski jump up to Frognerseteren, and in winter it's full of skiers. City to mountains, on a regular suburban train. It's a beautiful ride, too, like this one :)

Happy memories for me. In early 1960's I used to ski every christmas and new year in Arosa and this great line was the way we travelled there. All Swiss railways are so well organised co-ordinated and punctual regardless of which train companies are operating the services. It makes me very jealous considering the shambles we have in 🇬🇧

Thank you very much for posting. This must be early Spring. We were on a tour with John Rogers 2 years ago, “LGBTOURS “ and since we arrived a day early from Baden-Baden, we took this ride from Chur. It was beginning of August, and very warm. Arosa is a beautiful place to visit. A cable car lift right next to station. Thanks again for sharing with the world. After Covid-19, we hope to be back there in late April, early May 2022. All our best to you from the states.

Thank you once more, always a pleasure to watch one of your clips.
At around 12:20 and 32:20 we see clear signs of the route having been realigned away from the hillside, presumably for similar reasons to the alterations above Brusio Spiral - how much rockfall do you expect on this route?
Are those non-public passing stations ever used for special sporting events or only for signalling trains?
Final thought, the sun will always be in your face on this route unless you come downhill in the mid afternoon, doesn't worry me one bit, look forward to every new post \m/

Hello CalandaMountain. I am Pedro, I am from Lisbon and i am (i hope) a future train driver in Portugal. I really like your videos for the stunning views but also to see how signalling changes for country to country. I was in Zurich as a planespotter for the Davos 2020 summit, and of course I spent some time taking photos to trains and trams in and around Zurich HB. I have some questions about Swiss train rules. There is any way I can make them to you? One more time, thanks a lot for your amazing videos. Pedro.

TH-cam doesn't have private message, and I don't use Twitter so I don't know if it has Private Message. In general from what I see, in Swiss you have to know the speed limits of every km you drive, because only specific places have the speed limit visible correct? And the most confuse part for me as a Portuguese train driver "wannabe", how do you know (not in this line but in general), in what station platform will you enter? Other words, how do you know the route is made for your way? Here we house route indicators in places where track diverges.
Thank you for your answer. If you use Instagram, i am "busorganist" there. Cheers

    Lovely ride.
And as Graham Nancledra mentioned a few posts earlier, your vid fills a gap. There are only a few.
Most of them with flaws, unstable mounted downwards dropping cam, grainy hand helt '90's. The sun issue fits into a tradition, perhaps even an Arosa cam curse;-)

Really great quality work. Loved the Info provided - very clear. With the Start Signal, would I be correct that if it were RED the train would need to stop till it turned green? You mentioned a coming upgrade to the very old signaling system - will still make use of the red and green lights, yes? Are you using a GoPro Camera? What model. Personally, I loved the light - many cameras could not have shot what you did because of it. I will look for more of your work. Thanks.

Like it despite the bright sun. On an operational note on the RhB, when 2 trains have to cross in a station that has no passenger tunnel. Does one train have to come to a complete halt before the other train is able to come into the station and stop? Passengers have to cross behind the train nearest the station exit unless it has moved away. I notice that Poschiavo has been remodelled in recent years so trains unload singerly then cross outside the station.

the whole line was built between 1912 and 1914, including the bridges and tunnels. hard to imagine today. this line was originally not part of the ratien railway, the original company Chur-Arosa-Bahn merged with the ratien railway during the 2nd world war.
