The ending scene of Martha running up the stairs and screaming out to Clark then the music starting in the background will forever be one of my favorite scenes in television. It hits every time.
Red Kryptonite Clark in season 3 was gangsta as hell😂 Had the longer villain hair, better outfits, fly class ring, leather jackets, silver Lamborghini 🔥 Jonathan had get the superpower hookup to bring his lil bad ass back home 🤣🤣🤣 ONE OF THE BEST EPISODES EVER🔥🔥🔥👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
I'm really impressed that Al actually called back, I mean, he HAS to know that Michael is just going to ask him some crap about Smallville! really speaks to how nice he is !
You know Al has to be aware, by this point, that he could be called at any time by Michael with some random, crazy Smallville question and his answer will be public on the podcast. I’m impressed he ever answers that phone at all, not to mention calling back. 😂
Maybe he just enjoys talking about a hit show that he helped to create. He seems like a good guy. I personally love hearing him talk. He has such a pleasant voice and as Tom said Al and Miles are so smart and articulate and they're both funny too!
Tom's acting in this episode was stellar. The opening scene in the phone booth perfectly conveyed Clark's internal conflict without being too hamfisted about it.
Him screaming at Chloe and the expression in Tom's face was awesome! Since season one, I've been saying that Tom is great with his facial expressions. He really conveys Clark's emotions so well!
my favorite line in this episode is "Sorry Krusty, i saw the bank first". it always makes me giggle. its so corny but i love smallville giving a simpsons reference.
Welcome back Talkville! Season 3!! My favorite podcast is back!! For me the highlight of the episode was the opening when Clark is having that silent phone call with Martha (after he took off the Red K ring)!! I could see now that he wasn’t being overwhelmed by his baser instincts he wanted to come home (especially after his mom pleads for him) but he cannot get over his guilt and hangs up and cries silently! It was such a powerful scene!!
This is my favorite season as this was the only season I had on a DVD box set and I would watch it over and over and memorize the facial expressions and lines. I loved the way everyone just stepped up their game acting wise on this season because they just sound and feel like they are so comfortable with each other. They all truly felt like family. ❤
I always find it shocking how Helen went from being a respected Doctor to this gold digging murderer. She was putting on quite the act for Lex. It just felt like two completely different people!
Yeah I felt...very confused by this resolution for her. I don't think there's any way it makes sense that she would break bad this hard and fast just because of Lex breaking into her lab or whatever. So she must've been bad from the start. But I liked how their relationship felt very genuine most of last season. Frankly I just think they didn't know where to take her with Lex so just wrote her off. Should've saved the phone call for next episode and asked Al about THAT :P
According to the wiki, even she didn't know she was the bad 'guy' until this episode, so her acting in love was played genuinely and without bad intent in mind.
Helen's character was supposed to exit the show earlier but the like the actress so much that they made more material for her. So basically, I think they were making it up as they went along.
How could you not know that’s where they were going with that story line? She was there to abandon Lex and add to his character development. Heroes experience tragic losses. Villains experience abandonment.
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say Allison made a better choice than the rest of the show staff did for her character, to mark the time jump and shift in character for Chloe heading into this season.
This Season is considered by many as the best season of the entire series so as I said in the previous episode, I can guarantee that there will be more roses 🌹 than in the previous 2 seasons... Exile is a great start... I'm giving this episode 🌹🌹3/4 (2.75 roses)... #GladToSeeYallBack #LoveThePodcastFellas #TalkvilleWednesdays
In that opening scene, when Clark calls home in the phone booth, there’s that homage to him ripping open his shirt and revealing the kryptonian symbol like in the comics/movie when Clark changed into Superman in the phone booth. But this was obviously darker. And then, in that very same scene, the lighting and the way it was done was extraordinary!! When you see Martha talking, you have that warm glow of red representing love, and then when you see Clark in the booth, it goes to a dark color representing the darkness that’s consuming him and the pain he feels. This was a very beautiful scene.
The lady officer in the bank robbery scene is Maggie Sawyer, a well known character from, the comics. She was in season 2, "Insurgence" as the officer that stopped Clark from going underground when trying to save his Mom. The actress, Jill Teed reprises the part two more times in seasons 5 and 7.
This episode is the one I’ve watched the most repeatedly. Its one of my top favorite episodes of the whole show. It’s so good and I love seeing more of Clark on Red Kryptonite.
@@sandunikalingamudali5200they had the episode with Clark and Lois interrupting Lex and Lana’s reception(I think). Lois was on something also tho and don’t remember the specifics exactly.it hasn’t been that long sense I watched the show but a few years regardless. I feel like it had to happen again also, I just can’t remember
This makes me wonder how exactly does Clark get haircuts? I remember in Superman the animated series, he used his heat vision in a mirror to shave, but I somehow can't imagine this Clark doing that.
Yeah fr. I never watched as a kid but I vividly remember the scene where John makes a deal with Jor-El. I was cleaning my living room on a Saturday afternoon. Then I watched the series finale and fell in love with Clark and Lois’ dynamic. I started watching the show to take a look at what I missed, and I was amazed at how the show was in its basic parts the exact story I was writing in my private time. This story of development into manhood that Smallville has will always be important.
I really really cant wait to see how they rate the season 5 and after because I tried at least a few times and it was just unwatchable...so for me Smallville means 1-4
I'm actually surprised that they didn't speak more highly of Exile. I remember when it aired on the WB, and fans went crazy. I've noticed in general that fan favorite episodes aren't usually ones that they truly love. This is both strange and ironic. LOL
It was a good episode, but I can understand what they're saying about it feeling like a different show and wanting them to be back in Smallville as opposed to being in Metropolis. I too want Clark to go back to Smallville. I'm hoping him being in Metropolis doesn't last too long.
I always thought of the burning like an infection. Clark being in that state was unnatural for his body, so the burning scar was his body rejecting the ring in some kind of way so it’s not something he can wear 24/7
While I get frustrated with Tom & Michael sometimes about not paying attention to what they're seeing on the show, I can't really blame them for this one, since Jor-El's powers are basically magic, they have no specific logic and are always applied in a different way in each story arc. So yeah...the scar doesn't like Red K and wants Clark to do what Jor-El tells him. That's about all you really need to know, don't think about it too much.
I still remember when my siblings, grandma, and mom waited for this premiere! I remember very vividly how much we LOVED every minute of this episode! It’s one of my favorite memories of us. We watched Smallville every week without fail! Those were the days.
Super excited yall are back! This one felt like a 2000s movie to me! Shocked yall didn't pick up on the Point Break vibes in the bank robbery given how much Tom loves Keanu Reeves. I think the collared button-up was for ease of ripping open. No one said anything about Tom being in killer shape! Thanks for the fun guys! ❤
Thank you guys for coming back! This episode had lots of surprises, for instance Clark coming back to the loft and Jonathan and Martha hearing him. Loved Michael's acting on the island. I also thought the cliffhanger at the end was suspenseful. Thanks again guys! ❤
Welcome to Season 3!. This is such an explosive and memorable one. From Clark oo a a red kryptonite rampage in Metropolis. To Lex stuck on a deserted island with a physco killer. As well as the Indroduction of villian Morgan Edge, Detective Maggie Sawyer. And Jonathan making a deal with Jor-El leading to the epic ending. One I have been waiting to hear you guys discuss. So glad you're back.😀❤❤🙏
Tom and Michael are so good at showing emotion, it's like u can feel the pain their characters feel. I think I actually cried in the scene where Clark calls home after taking off the red kryptonite ring...and the hurt on Lex's face when Lionel tells him he wishes he hadn't saved him during the tornado gave me a lump in my throat I couldn't get rid of for a few minutes lol (season 2 I know but this was one of my most memorable moments)
Also Thank You guys for coming back so soon. Honestly can't get enough of Talkville and hearing these insightful reviews and fun reminices. You continue to bring such joy to my days even in dark times. Thank You for that.😀❤❤🙏
Yes!!! The wait is finally over. Seeing and listening to y’all is the best medicine. Definitely making a very physically and mentally challenging day so much better. Thank you. Love you guys❤️. TGFTVW 🙏.
So happy to have TalkVille back! My Wednesdays are made full again. 😁The only scene I wished you talked about more was the scene of Kal/Clark in the phone booth, after he opens his shirt to reveal the scar and it burns him and then he takes off the ring, he sees the phone and picks it up to call home. Martha answers it and whilst Clark doesn't say anything she instinctively knows it's her son. The look of anguish on Clark's face and Martha telling him to please come home, but Clark just hangs up, it was just such a well done scene and heartfelt and I loved how the music there was the end theme that was used in S2/S3.
One of my favorite scenes for every reason you just said. And I love that it was a classic Superman homage too :) A shame they were a little too sidetracked by the whole Jor-El/scar burning situation, which I can't be too mad about since that part of it is kind of random nonsense that never happens the same way again.
The ending of season 2 had my heart in pieces. Season 3 was so full of surprises! Loved every minute of it, and can't wait to relive it with you guys commentating!!
My understanding of Clark's pain in the phone booth: he was not obeying Jor-el and avoiding responsibilities so he was given that pain as a reminder since he was using the ring to "escape" mentally and emotionally.
the fact is when because jor-el forced him too in hostile in warning when having to destroy ship had an unexpect downside of saying no too caused Martha lose unborn and because misunderstanding of the kryptonian message written black and white only because his fear will hurt one’s he care for and because using the ring not only ‘escape’ but to get rid of consequences would rather do him worse in by pains than too others👍
I think the scar was partly to discipline Clark for defying Jor-el, partly to act as a beacon for his training. The red K was interfering so the scar was trying to get rid of it. That's why he felt relief from the pain when he took off the ring.
The burning was Jor-El trying to protect Clark, and force him to take off the ring, because the more he keeps it, the more violent and irresponsible he gets. Also, in the phone booth, it is indeed a clear reference to the classic "Clark changes to Superman" moments. The lighting even made his skin appearing blue, and the chest mark burns red and yellow, I love these little forshadowings in the show. Glad to see you back ^^ !
TGI Wednesday!!! Welcome back to the best day of the week!! One of the best seasons!!! So happy you are back! This episode was a solid 2 roses , we got red K Clark back!!! That Lex-Helen story arc wow! Love you guys!!!
I think that Smallville always has great season openers. For fans, they don't need to break the budget because we're going to watch it anyways but I loved the bank scene. It gave a little bit of the movie "Heat" vibe. I thought Clark and Chloe's scene when he got mad at her was amazing and as always, John and Annette always feel like the parents we wish we had. Michael on the island was great because just like Clark, it was out of character for Lex. Great episode to all and thank you to the entire team that puts these episodes together. Two roses for me as well.
This was more intense than waiting on SMALLVILLE to come back on,I KNOW YOU HAVE NO EARTHLY IDEA WHO I AM BUT AND THIS MAY SOUND WIERD BUT YALL ALL HELPED ME THROUGH SOME REALLY LIFE STRUGGLING MOMENTS,THANK YALL ALL, ESPECIALLY ALLISON, MICHAEL, TOM,
Thank goodness you’re back I was starting to get withdrawal symptoms. Loved this episode which had a good mix of emotions and drama, especially the scenes with Lex on the island going through his inner turmoil it was brilliant 🤩💖
The episode is 3 roses. You see Clark's internal struggle with life, purpose, an overbearing alien father, his impact on his parents and their love for him. It's SMALLVILLE!!!! It's the perfect Smallville episode. Also the end credits song changes and that score/suite used in the phone booth scene is the song at the end credits and it totally shows a tone shift in Smallville. Things get really serious from here on out. Love it. Also Allison getting a haircut saved the show. Fight me on it if you dare. lol Oh and the best scene was the bank robbery. Clark superspeeds and catches a bullet. Police surrounding Clark and it doesn't faze him then he destroys their cars......... AWESOME!!! We don't get anything like it again until the Season 5 premier. Aethyr and Namek do something similar.
There’s a few highlights for me in this episode: 1: Clark robbing the bank clashing with the Clown thugs, “Sorry Krusty, I saw the bank first!” 2: Lex freaking out at the skeleton prop from Party City. Makes me laugh every time 😅
12:09 seemed like it was due to Jor-El. Jor-El gave him the mark to remind him of who he “truly is”. Clark then put the ring on partially in defiance of Jor-El, amongst his regret for hurting Johnathan and Martha, etc. The mark seemed like it was meant to control Clark and push him towards his destiny and Kryptonian heritage, but the ring was impeding that. So the scar fought back against what was preventing it’s influence on Clark. That’s my perception anyway.
I think my favorite scene was Clark in phone booth and he calls home, Martha picks up pleading with Clark to come home. Everything about that scene was perfect acting and editing. I also love the warm light that comes on Clark’s face.
Been watching Smallville DVD set again for past week ❤ Still watch show and have not stopped over the yrs..love Tom,Micheal and the cast. Right now Iam on Season 5 ..I still remember the 1st time Smallville came on❤ I even got my parents and siblings into loving ( addicted) to watch it.
I stumbled upon Talkville and had to become a Patreon. I love the format and inside stories. This episode is a 3 🌹 🌹 🌹 for me. The characters got to play such vulnerability and even reckless abandon. It was raw and very strong and engaging. Thanks guys!
You're back!!!!!! So glad to have my Wednesdays to look forward to again. LOVED Exile, so much going on. Great to hear from Al again. Welcome back Talkville❤❤❤❤
Double happy to me to meet you and discuss with you on this brilliant season 3👍♥️ which is my favorite season !! An to discuss with the community ❤ Exile is an episode with breathtaking relief from its scenario, your interpretations, and a great guest !! Ilove always calls to Al 🙂👏 TalkVille lights up our Wednesdays !! 💙❤💖 Love
Damn, who's that? It's Talk Ville, that's who!! Clark stopping the robbers so he could rob them himself was the perfect way to show his edgy dark side in Metropolis. Even though Clark has broken Chloe over and over, she's still trying to protect him. Can't wait for more of season 3!
Great to have Talkville back! Exile was so different from S1 and S2 and it set the tone for S3 in my opinion. Would it be possible to get Sam jones III on as guest since this is his last season on the show? Would love to hear his thoughts. Thanks to everyone who works on this podcast. Great job ❤😅 1:03:41
Yes my favorite show to watch in the morning on my day off is back! You guys are epic as always and my favorite actors still since Smallville began. I can still remember every week when a new episode aired I wouldn't answer the phone, or listen to anyone talk to me while the show played 😅💯
This was actually MY first episode of Smallville I ever watched as a preteen. And I was really drawn to everything going on (though confused who Lionel and Helen were and why Lex was on an island), and when it ended, I thought it was a crazy cliffhanger and felt I needed to watch more and then I eventually saw the next episode a day later (I was seeing reruns) and it got me to start watching Smallville. Also, to this day, I still don't understand why they did a 180 with Helen.
I always want to mention how much I love the moments of both Chloe and Lana confronting Clark in Metropolis. They both called him out on his actions and Truly stood their ground. Great acting by Allison and Kristin. As well as Tom with showing the angry, aggressive side of Red K Clark.😀
When Tom was talking about screaming at Chloe, he said Allison says that it was strange to see him (Tom) like that. I can already tell that she got turned on by him screaming at her.
Huge relief! Glad you all are back! Talkville to Smallville to Hicksville to Metropolisville to abandoned Islands-no-where-ExiledVille! Great opening Episode to Season 3! ⚡️🌹🌹🌹🌟
Welcome back, you guys!! 😊 This is honestly one of my favorite episodes of the series. The opening scene when Clark is walking the streets of Metropolis, just from his presence you know this is gonna be a great episode. The highlights are definitely Clark's interactions with his parents. His call to Martha, huge tear jearker. The last scene with Jonathan gets you pumped for episode 2
This is the first time watching "Smallville" & it's been fun seeing Michael, Tom, Ryan & all the special guests sharing the behind the scenes memories!! Thanks for doing this!!❤❤❤
The very first scene, Clark in the booth calling home, was so touching, like feeling their pain...

Clark taking off the ring briefly and putting it back on was a nice touch. reminded the audience this was deliberate self abandonment.

my favorite line in this episode is "Sorry Krusty, i saw the bank first". it always makes me giggle. its so corny but i love smallville giving a simpsons reference.

Probably my favorite Smallville opening episodes, and Clark hairstyle.
Clark remembers everything when he's on Red K
In that opening scene, when Clark calls home in the phone booth, there’s that homage to him ripping open his shirt and revealing the kryptonian symbol like in the comics/movie when Clark changed into Superman in the phone booth. But this was obviously darker.

the fact is when because jor-el forced him too in hostile in warning when having to destroy ship had an unexpect downside of saying no too caused Martha lose unborn and because misunderstanding of the kryptonian message written black and white only because his fear will hurt one’s he care for and because using the ring not only ‘escape’ but to get rid of consequences would rather do him worse in by pains than too others👍
Welcome back with S03! Thanks for ep 01! 🥂🥂🍻🍻
TGI Wednesday!!! Welcome back to the best day of the week!! One of the best seasons!!! So happy you are back! This episode was a solid 2 roses , we got red K Clark back!!! That Lex-Helen story arc wow! Love you guys!!!
Welcome back!
This was more intense than waiting on SMALLVILLE to come back on,I KNOW YOU HAVE NO EARTHLY IDEA WHO I AM BUT AND THIS MAY SOUND WIERD BUT YALL ALL HELPED ME THROUGH SOME REALLY LIFE STRUGGLING MOMENTS,THANK YALL ALL, ESPECIALLY ALLISON, MICHAEL, TOM,
❤What a delight to be able to hear from you again!!!!
So excited that y'all are back. Solidarity with SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes.
There’s a few highlights for me in this episode:
1: Clark robbing the bank clashing with the Clown thugs, “Sorry Krusty, I saw the bank first!”
2: Lex freaking out at the skeleton prop from Party City.
Talkville in the AM and tea!! ☕😊All these years and I still get excited hearing about this show!❤️Thanks alot for this fellas!✌🏿😎
Happy season 3 is here ❤ hope it continues through the strike.
I am so excited y’all are continuing! Thank you so much!
This season is DARK!!! And I love it😊🎉
There's a lot of range in the acting for both Clark and Lex, I loved seeing it all the way through!
You're back!!!!!! So glad to have my Wednesdays to look forward to again. LOVED Exile, so much going on. Great to hear from Al again. Welcome back Talkville❤❤❤❤
Was scared you guys weren't coming back for Season 3 😵 so glad to see you did !!
The phone booth scene was sick. One of the most memorable. It's great.
So beautiful to see you back! ❤❤❤❤
WE BACK FOR SEASON 3!!!!! LET'S GOOOOO
💙❤💖 Love
Thanks Tom, I thought I was the only 6’4” guy with size 15’s. Now I feel normal.
Woo-hoo! Welcome back guys! You have been missed! ❤❤❤
So happy to see you guys posting again! Season 3 is one of my favorites, especially with Obsession.
God yes. That "three parter" is one of my favorite arcs on the show. (And leads to really important Chloe development also.)
Tom’s acting in this episode and the next blew me away! He was really one with the character!!!
Welcome back, Gents.
Great stuff, as always. Talkville is allowing me to spend some more time with my son having fun.
Thank you for that, boys.
You guys are the mvps for doing three seasons in a year.
Awesome you guys are back .I watch every Wednesday morning. One of the best episodes but episode 2 is my favorite 😍 Love you guys !!
Thanks for continuing the show
I cried when the first thing he did after he took his ring off is to call his mom :( too cute
Just found this podcast and binged the whole thing. So glad you guys are back for S3
⚡️🌹🌹🌹🌟
Happy you guys are back! I love hearing your honest analysis of each episode.
SO happy ye are back. Lots of love from Ireland ☘️
So good to see you guys back!!!
This is the best podcast. I am looking forward to all 10 seasons.
Welcome back, you guys!! 😊
This is honestly one of my favorite episodes of the series.
Thanks for doing this!!❤❤❤
When it first aired and now I loved the Chloe and Lionel scenes.
I remember watching this as a kid now, planning to rewatch the entire season again.
I almost never comment on anything, but I have to say, I absolutely love this podcast, and the both of you are awesome.
"Red Clark don't care" made me laugh 😂 Great episode guys!
Let's go! I love season 3, can't wait for this one. Thanks for everything lads
great to see you guys back for season 3
So excited this season is where it really starts to pick up and season 4
Welcome back, Michael and Tom! Looking forward to your thoughts on Season 3.
Welcome back Rosy, Tommy and Ryan super excited let's go ❤❤❤
I don't want to wait till next season to ask. Can we please get some, "I am the villain of the story." merch? Most badass line of the series!
Great idea!
Evil: actually is a lightswitch.
I'd wear that.
I love listening to the podcast and making some dinner, always makes my food taste better! Glad to have you back!
Red K episodes are always iconic 😂 but what a season opener!
