Your video format is reminding me of how another does theirs. BRILLIANT! We are lacking art content like this! I missed when bigger content creators made insightful art case studies rather than something clickbaity and attention grabbing. I can actually learn from this. Thank you.
exactly !! im so glad to see this in my recommended videos i found tppos channel months ago and have loved their format of art studies, it helps me get an in depth understanding and helps me understand and introduces me to all sorts of techniques and stuff i have never even thought about before TT i hope more artists create videos like this and thank you Noelucc im here to stay
Whenever anyone says people using another artist's artstyle as a reference is the same as AI artwork I'm just gonna send them this. The amount of work and artistic know how that goes into something like this is insane, and the amount of skill needed to even do this shows how good of an artist you truly are. Excellent work! If I could request another AK artist for you to do, I'd love to see an analysis on Kuroblood's artwork! His still is honestly insane and his designs are some of the best that gacha games have to offer in my opinion, so I feel a breakdown of that would be sick.
white clothing = most of shadow doesnt go under 50% but near it, and goes all the way to near 25% when very cramp and have ambient occlusion black clothing = almost never goes over 50% unless for highlight this gives that contrast feel overall great vid about the -sat thing lol didnt notice that pattern also i think(not sure but) never use such a strong gradient alone in a flat color background, also i noticed most artists never use a flat color background unless they use a really pop color (bright yellow like suteinuA) or just go paper color also another thing i picked up from artists is that theres not enough brush texture, u should try doing painting over in the late stage, really helps a lot for me , also theres not enough red saturation outline for the skin(subsurface scattering) be careful not to overdo the saturation though mostly only the outline for neck part, but for saturation under leg is higher because light bouncing around inside dress, i recommend trying ~80 bright for shadow with ur current saturation, and then use 100 bright and 50 sat red ink to slowly add on some subsurface edge scatter, gradient it out both ways on the neck cast shadow and then airbrush to add on some sat for parts like hands legs etc , and then finally bounce light
Videos like these are what's getting me to start learning again. I've been very depressed lately and I let my art stagnate, but art style study videos tend to inspire me because it shows me stylization methods I'd never even thought of- Ways to draw I hadn't even considered. Even though I'm still very depressed I have something to look forward to when I draw again. Thank you for uploading your studies, you've given a struggling artist hope again 💕💕
It's so cool seeing you break down ask's art style like this! It would be cool if you could break down the art styles of some of the other artist that work on arknights
Really good study! I like how you didnt focus on the "rules" of a single piece, but instead the relationships of those "rules" in all the pieces. Like when studying how they use color in general rather than just cherry picking one pieces color use. It's often over looked when people replicate art styles! I would like to add that this same studying technique can be applied for the body proportions as well, like how they have generally a 1 to 1 shoulder to hip ratio in their female characters, or how they usually make shoulders the length of 1.5 heads tall, etc. Finding relationships like these will give more context to things like the "tapered legs" and in turn lead to less guess work! Overall stunning piece and study.
Amazing analysis. You nailed why I love Ask's artstyle; the flowy, ribbony hair, the slender silhouettes and the color palette! Some tidbits I would like to contribute: Ask likes drawing slender builds and most of the time, the hair is kept together. Even when the hair is flowing in the wind, there are no flyaways. It makes for a neat hairstyle. May I request you analyze Chuzenji? Her style is really beautiful, but somewhat confusing because there are lots of details. Or AzLing, the depresso maker.
Thank you for the suggestions! I also really like Chuzenji but I can just tell the lineart for the hair is going to make my hands hurt, so maybe in the future when I have the skill for it!
Versus other art videos if watched so far, an artstyle analysis of Asuka's really helped a ton! Your video is extremely informative and helps the viewers learn a thing or two, even if youre only analyzing someone elses artstyle. I hope you continue to make more like this! Subbed, and probably one of the subscribed I actually care about
i love these kind of videos, over two years of practicing art, i struggle immensely trying to learn from others, as i often compare myself to them and get highly discouraged, that feeling multiplies when i realize i have no idea how to properly bisect the piece I'm currently studying. these videos show me not only a more healthy way of going about studies. but also more effective ways as well. i thank you for having the courage to put your work and work flows out there for the public to see
This was an amazing and insightful style analysis! Your explanation on Ask's method to coloring hair was extremely helpful. I never realized how saturated her shadows were, and evidently it really allows her art pieces to pop. Thank you for taking the time to learn all of this and share it as well! I definitely want to incorporate some of these techniques.
stumbled on your content, and I am glad I did because i think i just found a channel to give me the ropes and motivation to start drawing and painting on my own :D
amazing video!!! I'd love to see more analysis on AK artstyles, especially artists like KuroBlood (lee/aak/hung/waai fu) and A Gui (ethan/shaw/shriayuki/spot/jaye)
I'm happy you've mentioned the linework for legs, hair, nose, line thickness. Although there is a ton more to say there. These sorts of videos always focus too much on color.
I think you did great. There's some things in CSP that could've definitely helped (the tools and settings existing in the program) had they been used, but it happens. You did amazing
Have you considered doing linework like you did on a vector layer and then you could just adjust line weight as you please to mimic pressure brushes instead?
this is an amazing analysis!! very interesting and i’m always fascinated with how unique artists’ styles are. could i request an analysis on aZLing4? i’ve always loved their artwork for the game, definitely one of my favorite illustrators for arknights. once again, great video!
Surtr is indeed lovable. You did a good job copying her artsyle and yeah dynamic poses tend to be pretty difficult to pull off and make them look natural
just watched your 2 art style analysis videos, i really love this content! its very helpful, and interesting, and im thankful you take the time to break it down not just for yourself but for others too! also saw noctyx content in your library, so ill bingewatch those next! this new sub is very excited for more from you
Wow very informative for color design. I'm trying to draw a Dark-elf character but I'm having trouble designing her outfit. Is there anything you could recommend for designing an outfit for a darker skin toned characters like Carnelian or Flint? This appeared in my recommended most likely because I play Arknights, but its very nice to know that artists such as yourself play as well. Subscribed & liked
I’m glad the vid was helpful! I’m not very versed on character design, but one rule I remember for colour palettes for designs in general is the 60/30/10 rule- it’s the ratio between the main, secondary and accent colour when you make a design. Also something to note is that in both Carnelian and Flint's skins they all use either black or white as the main colour so maybe try imitating that? ㅎㅎ on TH-cam has some pretty good art process livestreams on outfit design that might help. I think the 22.07.03 and 22.10.02 streams have character design for dark skinned characters.
I noticed Ask has a tendency of making some peculiar higlights using different colors scattered across the hair as tiny dots. I have never understood how she makes them, I assume there is some layer magic going on because using simply ultra saturated colors doesn't work as well. Do you have any idea?
That should be the last step. When you are done with your art, combine all layers then create a new layer on top of the combined layers, set the blending mode to glow dodge. Then pick a dark color of your liking. If you want a glowing green reflected light pick a dark green in ur color wheel. If u pick a light green it will appear as white light.
I like channles that do this but like.. it's always anime styles 💀💀 anime is great and all but I also want more in depth analysis on semi realism or cartoon
Didn’t really understand most of the art terms but Video was still interesting and the Whisperain art looks quite good. Might’ve missed it but any reason why you chose to draw Whisperain for this?
The only price to copy Surtr is to give her ice cream.

Nah you can't prove anything to these surface-level wannabe AI-bros
white clothing = most of shadow doesnt go under 50% but near it, and goes all the way to near 25% when very cramp and have ambient occlusion
black clothing = almost never goes over 50% unless for highlight
this gives that contrast feel overall
great vid about the -sat thing lol didnt notice that pattern

holy shit i wrote a lot my bad
also use like 500 color correction layers to fix everything its great
