The first kilt I ordered from y'all I kinda messed up the waist measurement, it was a little long; and now that I've lost a little weight it is almost too big! Lesson learned and my subsequent kilts from y'all have been perfect! The big lesson is wrap the cloth tape as tight (or loose) as you want your kilt to be around your waist when measuring.

Hey Guys, I absolutely love your channel. Never thought I would enjoy two guys just sitting around talking about kilts. I gotta say that I wear kilts about 6 times a month. I usually go casual and your channel has helped me build confidence in my ability to pull it all off. Keep making great content!

Definitely have someone help you measure. Measure twice, cut once! Yes!

I was lucky that an Irish shop is close by (a few hours drive) that rents and sell kilts. We used them for rentals for our wedding, and I ordered my kilt from them. The person measuring even commented not to suck in my gut and to relax for certain measurements to make it the most comfortable.

It took me 2 tries to get the length right. It took me 2 more tries to get the hips right; I was basically getting it too loose across my bum and hips, which has a detrimental on how the pleats swing when you walk.

How much does it effect the measurement if the person getting the kilt is of a larger size and stone count?

+USAKiltsOfficial *If I'm understanding correctly, the belt should split the difference betwixt the lowest point of the rib cage and the high corner of the pelvis.* My existing 5.11⊞TACTICAL® cargo trousers are a usable ballpark for the waist and hip, but length is a matter of vertical proportions.

If I'm being honest with myself, I was off with my length measurements for a kilt I ordered. I'm about 5'10", and I ordered a length of 23". Comes down to the top of my knee (so works for traditional look), and it doesn't quite feel long enough. This was entirely my bad, although I did the best I could and went with the best measurements I had. Fortunately I've corrected this with my next kilt, and it may not matter as much for the first one as it probably won't fit me well in other ways in the near future (for good reasons).
So be careful with the measurements as they say. Never such a thing as too thorough here.

The length wasn’t too much of an issue for me, I got that right quite easily (kneeling down worked great for me, in combination with all other methods out there ;). But the waist… I just underestimated how much even a minor minor bowing down would increase the measurement by at least two inches easily. Thankfully I figured that out (due to a cheap polyviscose Kilt arriving meanwhile, giving me a comparison) - so I could change my order in time before it was processed, and ended up with the correct measurement and a good fit. So really, don’t look down to check the measure when you measure yourself. Better have anyone help you out, or stand damn straight. 😊

Im around 5'9" and i measured that 23" are way too long for me and my taste. I found out that a 20" long kilt would suit the best, because i also wanna wear it both ways, under the belly and ontop of it. ^^
