Given TV's were a new technology in 1950, that seems way out of place.

Also they wouldn't have got into trouble since they went back to 1985 - but as far as the townsfolk of 1885 were concerned "Clint Eastwood" and the blacksmith died in the "accident" (hence "Eastwood Ravine" at the end of the third film.
