Just a bit of context for those that believe we had more units in the centre than we should have. This map is Delminium. All tournament players have access to all updated rules. On the map of Delminium, you cannot have any more than 10 units in the city centre. We were simply recycling the units constantly over and over in order to keep the maximum strength we could, I was the Kush player. There are two entrances into the 3rd layer, much of our reserves that we had left we put at that second entrance (on the outside of the 3rd layer). Whenever a unit of ours broke, along came our reserve unit. At no point did we ever have more than 10 units in the city centre. On my honour as a Hungry Wolf.
Hello you friendly neighborhood hungry wolves consultant. I have seen some people in the comment section said that Hungry wolves had more then 7 units in the citadel, And you would be right! that is because the rule says 10 units in the citadel for that specific settlement (different settlements have different rules towards that), and the stairs did not count towards that. I also have a replay from the defender's prospective that shows they did not break that rule.
@@Darqshadow What's the saying... all is fair in love and war? So yea, the people above saying "it's cheap!". It's war. People need to get over this idea of glory in an epic battle. That's not how war works. Ask the French, they used a little girl to win the 100 year war. Well, the idea of her anyway.
I feel like they had more than 7 units in those walls for that final stand. Update: there’s another comment from someone in the tournament that said the rule depends on the settlement and it was actually 10 units. So I apologize for any accusations.

Lots of fun being involved in this tourney so far. Shout out to Corbyfistbaiter. We will have to see what goes on in the tie breaker. Again thanks to Apollo for covering all of these battles so far.
I want to congratulate both teams. great fight. The beggining was thrilling. The skirmish phase tends to be boring, but to me this one just felt tense, what with the defenders scared for not having enough and the attackers scared thinking the defenders had a lot more than they had. The end was a little of a bummer, but it's the rules and Hungry Wolves fought well and earned that victory, i'll give them that. Great fight. Haven't seen a battle like this in a song time. Good Luck on the tie breaker for both teams (but i'm cheering for you Hungry Wolves.
Looks to me like they had all the extra troops on that far wing and when they sent one out to defend they would add another to the center to be ready. So they had way more than 7 ready for the defense. They just weren't in the center all at the same time.
The rule says 10 units in the citadel for that specific settlement and the stairs did not count towards that. So the defenders did not cheat. There was a change of rules.
Hmmm didnt the hungry wolves have too many troops in the centre? Or can they fight as much as they like just outside it and pour as many troops from the centre as they like?
they had units outside the 2nd entrance they were using as reserves to replace tired units outside the main entrance... the rule says max of 10 at any time in the town centre on this map but they had about 6 or 7 in the centre/Citadel, it just seems like they had a lot because they were switching with reserve units so much to keep the defending units fighting fit in order not to be routed..
Something that I really think would be cool was if Pixelated had a surprise participation in a match against the winners. Since they would his fans I think they would like it as well
That was amazing. It seems, that no matter what happens.. unless you have artillery or archers. Pikemen are going to be the bane to all attackers, when it comes to siege. Especially up at the very top of the city itself. Those stairways, they can easily hold them, if backed up by fresh infantries or even archers to protect them from a safe distance. Raining down volley after volley against the archers on the attacking side.
The rule says 10 units in the citadel for that specific settlement and the stairs did not count towards that. So the defenders did not cheat. There was a change of rules.
Kushite flanking attack was mind blowing, but great use of pikes. And did anyone see how many javelins the group captain at the end got from the Kushites at the top of the stairs?
Yet another freaking amazing vid! I really thought that Apollo was gonna be right and there was gonna be a whole army of angry Athenians waiting on the flank, looks like I was wrong. I’m just wondering where did the Athenians player army go?
I so hope you see this comment, But man, I haven't played this game in years. I've grown up and can't play man. But I always watch your commentary on these fights and really enjoy it man. Both teams are great! but I'm on team hungry wolves I think because of that great last stand. I really think they were trying to bluff the defense towards the end.
if you have a problem with stutter in your game Pixie Poo, when in battle and you see it, alt tab out or ctrl alt del out, open task manager, select details tab, right click on Attila.exe or rome2.exe, select set affinity, uncheck the last core, press OK, again right click the .exe, again select set affinity, check mark the core you unchecked prior, press OK, close task manager, go back into battle, butter smooth, hope this helps anyone suffering from stutter.
Naaa. That'd make it unrealistic. Especially the giant plume which was only really used by the Trojans. In saying that, the Greeks, or I should say Hoplites, did design their helmets with feathers, and in some cases, a plume. But that was because they were citizen soldiers, who had to pay for their own equipment. The current helmets they're wearing is far more realistic.
Call me a noob but how do you trigger units to throw the pilas/javelins? I can get them to do it in their own but I always see dudes making them do it.
Attackers should have saved archer ammo till the citadel push, then brought them up the steps to fire at the backs of pike units on the opposite side. They'd get massacred from the walls, but trading themselves for defending pikes might have won this. Collapse of the the attacking Selucid army on the right (arguably from pushing in when they could have coordinated with the center) left the attackers with too few infantry.

Six minutes into the battle and i already loved that fake cavalry sally out. I sense a good fight comming.
You know it's gonna be a great battle when it's over an hour. Great vid Apollo!
You know that a Rome 2 battle will get intense and juicy when it is over one hour long

Seems like the defenders had more then 7 units in the inner base. Maybe i should find the rule video.
I could imagine that they got more unit near the second gate of last stand and when one unit get out to defend the stairs second went in the castle xd
Looks to me like they had all the extra troops on that far wing and when they sent one out to defend they would add another to the center to be ready. So they had way more than 7 ready for the defense. They just weren't in the center all at the same time.
yep they had way too many units in the inner base. Should be penalized next round.
they gave an explanation about why they did what they did and how it was legal for them to have more then 7 troops in the city center

Because I couldn't see how many were in the center I couldn't penalize them because I have no idea
I think someone counted them out as 12 somewhere in the comments, it did seem like they just kept replacing units at the top of the stairs

Yes, I didn't count the ones on the stairs, they just kept on bringing units from the last stand. I didn't know the rules changed though...
@@ΧάρηςΠαπαδογιάννης i think they moved them up through the gate on the other side of the town center. That way they would have followed the rules.

10 units. The rule depended on the settlement.
SO I'd love to know, where I can get the soundtrack you use for these battles, because I really wanna listen to it fully!
Apollo, I don’t remember hosting this tournament.
What a cool battle!
One small thing about the commentary. It would be great if you (Apollo) actually played Rome 2.
Is there a rule or something for factions? Cause it seems all factions lately are Hellenic and Kush.
Only Rome is banned, because they're too op. Hellenic and kush are common in siege battles probably for having good defensive and offensive infantry
Kush are the only faction I know that have armor piercing heavy infantry and pikes are OP in last stands
Awesome Apollo
In my opinion hungry wolves are really good defenders
They saved all their pikes for last, and thus, the cavarly was there just to try to take out as many archers as possible. Talk about a battle plan
There is a day in this game? With blue sky? I am now playing as Macedon and in every battle sky is dark or dark red...

I think am confused towards the rules aren't they only aloud 6 units at the end defence
Depends on the settlement. They were allowed 10 for this game. It will depend on whatever settlement is in play.
