Blue Hammerite is my favorite for painting tools & stuff ^-^
Considering the low cost of a new similar toolbox, its not really worth the effort shown here.
However thats not the point, this is about the joy of bringing new life to your companion in all your project works.
I still have my first toolbox ever, exactly the same type as shown here, its been my faithfull project companion for some 40 years now.
Would be a great project to restore, thanks for the video and inspiration !

probably go with some thin teflon washers between the bars and the toolbox to cut down on friction

Cool project the old box looks new and it will outlast any new plastic tool box out there. As far as paint with a brush You did a great job the paint is thicker than using a rattle can paint just let it set up good before using it. Stay awesome .

I probably would have opted for a nut and bolt to hold the handle on, once that box is full of weight that will be alot of stress on that single rivet.
That was my first toolbox that I bought when I started as an apprentice mechanic that was in the day before Snap On came to Britain.

I have a toolbox very similar to this (the handle armature is different) that was made in Poland in the 1980s. I bought it at Bob's Liquidation Sales in Anchorage, Alaska in 1986.

for your trial update, normally this type of toolbox, when it's closed and you push the handle down to the toolbox needs to open. on the contrary when pulling it upwards with the weight of the tools carrying it about to close
For that reason is designed to work

Using aluminium pop rivets for moving parts is not a good idea,will hold not long time.
Better stainless steel pop rivets for sure

Where ever you find these around the world they are mainly blue, I have seen a couple of red ones but they were newer I think! that tool box looks great

I'm gonna try to not be to critical of what u did. It really wasn't a restoration. More of a face lift to get a desired finish. That tool box was in great shape when u started. But over all u did a good job and it does look great.

Sve super, ali zakaj si to penzlal, kaj nebi bilo brže i ljepše pištoljem za lak i kompresorom...vjerujem da imaš! Inače lijepo ispalo, imam doma takve jedno 3 kutije al nikak ulovit vremena, dosta je to posla...
Pa imo sam u planu to porokat sa pištoljem ali nema svako kompresor tak da sam kistom a i neda mi se realno prat pištolj hahahah

Imam pištolj za bojanje ali nisam kupio originalni razređivač za ovu boju...A jako je gusta tak da :I
Malo sam klasicno bojao a i nema svako kompresor doma za bojanje tak da nema veze :D

you ruined it by painting it ... that tool box was powder coated which is much more durable than the regular paint...

Ma scusa, vale davvero la pena di spendere tutta quella fatica e tante ore di lavoro + materiali vari , per quella vecchia scatola ??!
lo scemo di turno nkn mi sembrava messa male. una lavata, qualche nuovo rivetto e in 10min hai la cassetta....
zosoilrelucertola ma se il video è velocizzato, ci sono tagli in più punti è dura già 20 minuti, come pensi di fare a mettercene 10?
Per sistemarla come nel video (che poi la verniciatura è peggio di prima) se ne vanno 2 giorni; senza verniciatura mezza giornata ti va comunque via
