My 6 year old son sat here and watched the entire video! He was mesmerized with your work, as was I! I took him to the local art supply store, today. He informed everyone in the store that HE IS an ARTIST! =) He came home from school, yesterday, and declared that he was an artist and he HAD to paint! You made a little boy's day, today! He loved your video!
Karren- being an artist requires a lot of courage. I'm glad your son found inspiration. May his life be full of art and creative genius. Please check out my site michaelpintar.com and have him send me an email with one of his masterpieces.
I know this is two years ago, but is your son still painting? Do you have a place to view his works. Love the story how he got motivated by watching this.
Les touches sont d'une grande maîtrise. Le sujet projette dans le charme de la peinture des ruelles des villes anciennes et des medinas. Merci pour cette tranche de rêve.
This is insane! I love oil paints and discovered palette knives and other methods to paint just a few months ago. I dont think i could ever be as good since this is in such detail, i dont think id ever be able to notice little things like that. Atleast i can try! Thanks for showing this
This is so beautiful I could cry. Although you didn't give any tips, I now see how I really just need a palette knife to get all that amazing tiny detail, color and texture. So thank you!!
Don't cry. Be happy. Thank God for the Internet. The knife is your friend and many artists don't know how to use it very well. Plus, clean up is so much easier.
I actually gasped when i realised what you was painting, the image just fell into place in my mind i thought it was random till i saw the form. Incredible!
What a beautiful piece of art sir !!! I am truly mesmerized. I have been doing lot of oil painting lately but wanted to try knife painting and came across your video :) Your work inspired me :) Thank you for sharing the video !!!
Thank you this is beautiful, I am just starting back in oils after going to watercplours for 15 years so this has inspired me. When can you put a dvd out please
I'm digging your vids on abstract ... I'm taking my first intro to painting course as part of my major requirements and the teacher isn't very good at teaching so watching your techniques it helpful. she's too busy focusing on the students that have obviously already been painting for years and here I am just trying to get through it so I can focus on photography :D
REALLY BEAUTIFUL PAINTING! CANT WAIT TO TRY SOMETHING SIMILAR! I HAVE MY PAINTS AND PALETTES KNIVES READY TO GO. I HAVE ONLY EVER DONE A FEW ROUGH SELF PORTRAITS IN OILS. VERY EXCITED! COULD YOU GIVE ME ANY TIPS ON DRYING THE OIL PAINTINGS. IM PAINTING FROM HOME WITH NO GARABE OR SHED SO I HAVE TO DRY THEM IN THE HOUSE. LAST TIMES THE FUMES WERE INTENSE FOR A LONG TIME. THANK YOU SO MUCH!! ALL THE BEST
Hi- Thanks for watching and your kind comment. Have you ever tried water-soluble oils? No need to use OMS or turpentine when you paint, just water. I find they dry faster and you can even use specific medium for that type of paint. While oil paint is the timeless medium one of the drawbacks can be fumes from solvents. PS...Odorless mineral spirits (OMS)/Gamsol can help reduce the smell.
Hi, nice work! It's beautiful! I love all the colors, I tried to do it, It was my first painting with the palette knife (plastic one) and was a success I think! Thanks for the tips. Regards.
Do yourself a huge favour and get a metal knife, they’re pretty cheap and just work way better then the plastic ones Source: i was a plastic knife user
I just wanted to say that your video was really hopefull and it hepled me learn how to use a palette knife. I really like the colors you use and your technique. Please keep up the amazing work you do!☺ (sorry for my english I'm greek😂)
Thanks for the video... but it would b great if you could also teach the basic techniques at least about how to use the palette knife and kind of explain the painting process / steps
I wish I did this painting in 8 minutes...I wouldn't be a starving artist! Time lapse got this down to about 8 minutes. In real time it was about 2 hours.
@marisa Elene Nadiega thank you for watching. This video has become my most watched, for reasons unknown. Cinque Terra and especially Vernazza is a special place in this world. The colors are unique as are the people in the town.
my fav thing in this painting is the thing u drew of purple color on roof of small huts like on the ground............ i had drawn a painting of a ship in river in sunset......but using "KITCHEN KNIFE"........hhhehehhe
I suppose there is some value in watching how you wield your knife etc. But you never show the reference photo ! I would like to see the image you are working from to see, as you work, how you interpret the shapes and colors and values of the photo with paint and knife.
Ralph, every artist struggles. Making "decent" paintings have a variety of meanings. Decent enough for my own walls? Decent enough to be purchased? Decent enough to submit for a show? Good comp, sketch, block in....I've gessoed over more canvases than I've sold. This particular painting sold, via YT. I doubt I can re-create it. Sometimes good paintings just happen.

very confident in your knife strokes, love the thick paint application the way it's supposed to be done!
Brush?
I meant "knife"
*thick pain application*

This is just super relaxing to watch
Tevy Coste .Yes:feel fine
Very accomplished, amazing sense of tension when applying paint in some areas and great freedom in others, most enjoyable!
Wow! What a beautiful painting! I've been only painting in acrylics but I'm definitely going to give this a try. Thank you for sharing.
My pleasure. Oils let you move that paint around like butter. The trick is not to overblend with the knife.

+Terpo Star Thank you so much.
Amaizing art.👌👌
Amazing. Superb
What I love about impressionism is that the image is like a faint memory or a dream where only vague details can be recalled.
Very inspiring for a struggling artist like myself. "Struggling" meaning I struggle to make a decent painting. ;-)
