Ok,so I had the red light of doom illuminate on my kenwood dnx 525 dab,so my friend and I followed your video to the T,and hey presto !!!! It works again !!!!! Wow !!!!!! Thankyou for the video and advice-It really does work !!!!!👍👍👍👍
Just swapped out a dead DNX 4230DAB at the garage i work at for a customer and made sure to keep it all to one side, will definitely be giving this a go!
Just want to thank you for your detailed video, Kenwood DNX4230DAB got the red tint screen of death last night and wouldn't power back on, was about to pull the trigger on buying a new headunit and came across your video after a quick search - headunit now back in car running like new, just want to say thanks and you have earned a sub. 🏆🥇😉
I can't thank you enough. It worked and your video was really clear. I didn't have a flux pen but wiped some normal flux around the chip using the end of zip tie. I used a normal heat gun but protected the plastic connector with the heat shield. Just did it for a minute like u said. I used a temperature gun to make sure it wasn't getting too hot. I used some silicone grease ontop of the chip when rebuilding to aid the heat transfer. My Dad used to use silicone grease on transister heat sinks back in the day when fixing TVs. Is that a special type or will any silicone grease do the job. Again thank you for making this video and sharing your knowledge
So took the unit back out, used a blow directional heat unit on the chips, only this time,@ 280 degrees and for 1 minute 20 seconds, all working again, let’s hope that has done the trick this time 😊
my kenwood dnx891 did this a couple years ago, didnt know this solution and just replaced daughterboard, fixed it, something else went wrong, now its just sitting. bought same model last year (another one), last month this new one got black screen, gonna try this
thank you! - fixed mine up. used oven at 275 F for 10 minutes. Unbelievable that this same problem has hit me on Playstation, Kenwood car stereo, and two LG 65" TVs. Manufacturing problem?
fix only worked for a few days. so i bought a cheap heat gun ($15) and used a meat thermometer. Aimed heat gun at chip, kept it about 350 degrees F for a couple of minutes on each side. tried to find flux pen but couldn't get one in time. it's been a couple of weeks and still working. thanks again.
no joy. it worked for a few days and then bad again. tried one last thing, just unplugged power and then replugged, and it started fine. i remember seeing this problem when i was researching what i thought was a reflow issue. anyone know who to fix this power problem?
Hi, thank you for a great video... I've done the reflow exactly the same as your video on 3 Kenwood DNX4230DAB units and the procedure as worked, the units all work apart from when I load a CD the units lose power for a split second then restart but stay on the logo, BARBARIAN in this case, any idea on this please? It seems strange all 3 units have the same issue. Thank you, Jack
My DNX4230 boots up but just stays on Intelligent Motion screen and doesn't fully load, any ideas what could be causing that, Mitsubishi ASX, tried resetting from the red triangle and disconnected and reconnected cables but will just load to Intelligent Motion screen and stays on that screen
@@DBifix ended up using thermal paste cuz someone said they had success with theirs for better heat dissapation but spreading it over the chip on the daughterboard and then putting a glob on the silver of it so that it touches the heat sink, we'll see if it holds up, been working so far.
When you say "remove the SD card", how would you go about replacing that sd card within the daughter board? i see i can take mine out but is that something that can be purchased online or can i just get a new micro sd card and add the maps files needed to it and put that new card in that slot?
@@ManOfGod-70 Yeah but you will to see if you have fixed it, unless you want to try , put it all back together again then refit into car and find it doesnt work
Hi, i have a DNX9990HD, i proceed with the Software Update and get an error. Now the don't go out from the Update Software. Somebody know what i have to do ?
I have had to do this about 5 times over the years. Seems very random when it decides to die again. Just took a 500 mile trip, no problem. Go to work the next day, red screen.
Thanks, this is great I need to try this. Can you recommend the flux pen you are using? Also, is the issue only the CPU - this video th-cam.com/video/zMSFZaZt9YM/w-d-xo.html is similar but advises to heat the whole board, and the chip named IC500 ? I am unsure if all board needs heat/flux/reflow - or just the main CPU as in your video? Many thanks!
Ok,so it worked for a couple of days, turned off and on a few times on it’s own,now it’s off permanently, only this time, when the security panel is removed the red light flashes 💁♂️

FP-500

What can you replace the thermal pad with to help stop over heating? Thermal grizzlies thermal paste? Or does it have to be a thermal pad?

If I remember correctly it's about 10mm x 10mm.

I think you put the same card back in the slot after you have the done the reflow.
You said 250 c but what air flow speed did you use on hot air gun?
Thank you for asking, sorry I was not able to show that in the video. My hot air gun airflow speed is not digital the knob is set to 6.
@@DBifix thanks for your response. I repaired mines today. It worked!
How I connected the system outside the car
You need 12v dc power supply source. Connect the +12v to battery (yellow wire) and ACC (red wire). - 12v to ground (black wire or unit chassis)

Was that 250F or 250C?
Celsius as stated in the description.

Hi. The Kenwood head unit on my 2014 Subaru XV has no power. Is it possible for u to get it repaired for me? Are u in Malaysia by any chance? 😁
Yes, in Malaysia. Please provide information on how to contact you.
I think I probably got mine to hot and destroyed it. It didn't work for me

Did you use the flux paste? I read that flux is important, but it seems a lot of people in don't use it.

How does the reflow fix it? What does it actually do?
Yes, work for me till now. The heat applied will melt the solder balls and fix the micro crack or contact issue.
I have same problem with my kenwood
