Welcome to booktube. Getting lost in a good book is one of life's pleasures. For 35 years I worked 12 hour shifts as an operator in a gas plant. So I usually had lots of time to read on night shift. For awhile I had to switch to magazines because I sometimes got so involved in a good book that I would come back to reality and realize I had been reading for hours and now had to run around like a crazy person to try to get finished all the things I had meant to do that shift. In the end I guess I managed to do my job well since they kept me around that long but the fact that a person could go to work in a dirty, noisy industrial plant but spend hours lost in interesting. amazing landscapes sure helped pass those 35 years quickly and now that I have retired I don't have to come back to reality until I get hungry.
My goodness, that's an amazing story! I'm going to start listening to ebooks at work, but to me that's not the same as getting lost in a physical book. I think it's great you had a job you could read at. How many books do you read a year? Thank you for watching, commenting, and subscribing! I appreciate it very much.
During covid I read over 100 books since we were all self isolating anyway. Last year I read 70 books, so I would say 70 - 100 depending on length. How about you, do you mostly read evenings and weekends.@@OneMundaneMan
@@aaronmyram6864 I would to be able to read that many books a year! I try to read an hour or two a day. An hour first thing in the morning, that's my prime reading time. Then an hour or so when I go to bed, but that isn't always "good" reading lol. My goal this year is 30-35 books this year.
Thought I’d offer some answers to your nuts and bolts questions. 🤓 I use my iPhone 14 and a selfie stick that converts to a tripod. That’s it. I edit with the free iMovie right on my phone. I post 2 videos a week almost always on Weds morning and Sunday morning. Consistency is important. I used to keep an idea notebook but I lost it. 😂 After 4 years I don’t usually run out of ideas. My Sunday video is my weekly wrap up so I only need 1 other idea per week. It doesn’t take long to get used to the camera and speaking to a camera. It becomes second nature. You did something perfect right off the bat: you’re looking directly into the camera lenses instead off to the side which usually means you’re looking at the view screen. Nice job. 😊
Thank you for the advice! My son suggested iMovie as well. I could use my wife's iPad for editing. I'm currently using the free version of Davinci Resolve. I've also been contemplating using my phone for recording. I'll need to find a schedule. I considered three a week, but that may be too many initially. I should probably settle in and get comfortable first. Thank you for mentioning that I looked into the camera because that was the most challenging part. I had this overwhelming urge to look at the screen instead. Eventually, I turned it around so I couldn't see it.
Welcome to the booktube community Mike! Being comfortable in front of the camera was tough for me at first, but you get use to it. Subscriber #18! Glad to have you join this amazing community of book enthusiasts :)

I shoot all my videos on my phone, but edit on Final Cut Pro, I decided to spend a bit here as I have no confidence or background in this area. I look forward to following your adventures with books.
I too started with Dick and Jane books! I was reading them in first grade. I love your black arrow wall book holder. So cool. I'm also an eclectic fiction reader and have read a fair amount of sci-fi but right now I'm into some vintage romantic suspense from the 1950's through about the 1990's.. that could change - I also read a lot of classics; currently reading Les Misérables. Right now I film with my cell phone though I'd like to go back to using my GoPro because sometimes I want to refer to something on my cell phone while I'm filming and obviously I can't if it is stuck to the tripod and filming me! My video editor is Adobe Premiere Elements 2022 which generally costs less than 100 dollars and is sometimes/often on sale.
My children didn't get to experience Dick and Jane! What a crime lol. After I made my initial video I found those books online and read a couple :). I should add them to my 2024 books read list! I'm diving into SciFi/Fantasy heavy right now. It's the genre I'm least knowledgeable of....except for romance (that may change). I love classics! Les Mis was amazing, War and Peace I started a couple of times but too much book tro finish. I love Russian authors though, especially Dostoyevski. I have considered using my GoPro 10 but haven't yet. Is it easy edit? Good recordings? I've been using the free version of Davinci Resolve. It's serves it's purpose, but should have gone with Adobe. I feel I'll need to transition there anyway after a while. Thank you so much for your reply and for subscribing! I subscribed back. I'm excited to catch up on your videos!
@@OneMundaneMan As I recall, I had to buy special attachments for the GoPro to make it work for me, such as a cord for the mic to plug into, and some kind of contraption I use to ... gosh, can't even remember! Hey, it seems like we have similar tastes in books. I wish the new booktubers would revolt against the question order and start with what types of books you enjoy. Since these channels are all about reading, the first thing I want to find out is what types of books you enjoy. Even if you enjoy a lot of different genres, you’ll have some you gravitate to. This would let the viewer know, right off the bat, if you like the same types of books. I may still subscribe if the booktuber is enjoyable to hang out with and has some humor and knowledge in their presentation. Anyway, I subscribed. I look forward to seeing what you do. I may do this when I retire in a couple of years. I’ve toyed with the idea of making videos at my leisure, without uploading them. That would ease the “publish or perish” TH-cam algorithm favoring consistency in uploading videos. If I had about 20 ready to go, that would allow me to take some time off (like if I read War and Peace, it’ll take me a few weeks). I could post the ones I’ve done during those times. When I retire, I’ll have more time to read, but I also like to do a lot of different stuff so I might not meet all these reading quotas. One thing I’ve found I don’t really like on booktube are the trope videos, like book hauls. I don’t care what you just bought. If you want to do a library tour, maybe a video for each genre, great. Then you can discuss the genre and your thoughts about why you selected what you did. Sorry, I didn’t mean to write a novel 📕. Good luck!
