I think it's prohibited to play this in public after a law passed earlier this year. Though the original text of this anthem was read at an event celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Estonian republic and the phrase ,,Jää kestma, Kalevite kange rahvas!" is still often used by people here.

@@topistatudkullI wonder why Estonia wanted to move away from russian influences, it's not like the soviets banned any of the old national songs made during the 19th and early 20th centuries or anything.
@@esttrox5881 I don't mean the Russian influences, the proportion of how much it actually dominated during those times is overblown. What I am rather referring to is the fact that the ESSR was more "Estonian" in it's national culture than the current one. The current (and also of interwar Estonia) discourse of Estonian "national culture" is inherently rooted in the 19th century national awakening which was particularly influenced by German national romanticism. The entire ideological rhetoric of Estonians longing for foreign cultures begins here. In contrast, the ESSR's conception of Estonian culture was more influenced by the events before, most notably the 700-year serfdom under German landowners (this was especially fitting for soviet histographers as the entire history of medieval Estonia was interpreted as a "national class war" of sorts), the Jüriöö insurrection and the Livonian crusade, as well as Estonian peasant life and mythology. This is why the prestige of national dance, song and clothing was kept so high, even in Stalinist posters and movies. Of course this was supplemented by the mandatory rhetoric "friendship of the people's" and other stereotypical communist rhetoric but it being supplemented by Estonian national symbols is noteworthy (movies like ,,Leelo" and ,,Laulev rahvas" demonstrate this clearly). And just as how with the fall of the USSR the obvious communist jargon was ditch, so was this conception of Estonian culture and we returned to the German-inspired Estonian "nationalism" of the 19th century.
