Martha Raye was a nurse and during the Vietnam war she did USO shows and her part in caring for the wounded! She was made a honaray colonel by her "boys" at Fort Bragg during this time. She is buried at Fort Bragg with her "boys"! She had a great career on and off stage!
9:10 - "You look like you could open a store on Fairfax". Wonder if that joke stems from what that wool cap makes Martha's 'head' look like.... (Fairfax, btw, is a Jewish-centric neighborhood in L.A.)....
This skit is funny cuz of Martha Raye messing up. Red seems to laugh in all his skits. He's clearing having fun and not sweating the flubs. classic stuff.
In the opening scene, the shorter of the two men is Mousie Garner. He was one of the many actors who worked with TedHealy when he first had his three stooges act, but he never worked with Moe, Larry or Curly. He has the last livingactor that died who worked with Ted Healy.
Red Skeleton was one of the rare comedians who was supposed to actually be, a sweetheart in real life. Most Comedians in real life are usually extremely serious or not so nice..
