    This was shot with the Canon 1dxII in 4k and a Canon 24-105mm f/4 version I (the vII is too big and heavy for the Ronin-S IMO) - The Sony a7III has some nice native lenses and great video autofocus. But any decent longer focal length lens and camera with good video autofocus would work.

    Just this tutorial alone was so cinematic, beautiful and helpful! 🙌🏽 Unfortunately for me as I shoot Lumix cameras GH5 and S1 not the best auto focus.

    • @thefilmpoets
      @thefilmpoets  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      One way around that is to just stop down a bit and then don't walk forward very far. You'll have a deeper DOF and still get the vertical parallax but with slightly less push in. Should work. Also, set your focus at the end point rather than the starting point so that the image gets sharper as you push forward. -Matt

    • @mikes_perspective6580
      @mikes_perspective6580 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Film Poets yes! 🙌🏽 I totally get you! so that way I can walk into focus rather than out of focus. Stop down Aperture so I can have more of an in-focus range. Thank you so much!

    • @screammachineman
      @screammachineman 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      also keep in mind that your GH5's depth of field is greater at f/4 than matt's 1dx at f/4. Also, I've seen some impressive S1 autofocus with the native 24-105. If you're adapting, it's not at all the same. As for the GH5, switch to single point AF and shrink the size of it. GH5's AF works better pushing in than pulling out for me for tracking, so experiment with that outside of a wedding first.

    • @thefilmpoets
      @thefilmpoets  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I like to use the Marvels Cine profile for Canon cameras. It's the Neutral profile with a slight bump in the shadows. I think it's the sweet spot for 8-bit camera profiles.

    • @thefilmpoets
      @thefilmpoets  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're thinking of the Zolly shot or dolly zoom. That makes the background close in or move away from the subject, this is very different and doesn't require zooming. It moves the background vertically behind the subject and doesn't have that "the world is caving in on me" feel.

  • @samgillespie
    @samgillespie 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    These shots look awesome dude! Quick question...how do you get the 1DX's screen to keep displaying when HDMI is plugged in (so you can tap to focus etc)?

    • @thefilmpoets
      @thefilmpoets  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question. There is an HDMI output options menu. There are only three options. I can't remember which one is the correct, but you want both screens working with the information on the camera, not the HDMI output. Hope that helps you find the right setting. -Matt

    • @thefilmpoets
      @thefilmpoets  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      James Coleman II I have a horizontal bar that I sometimes grab. It’s by small rig, you have to disassemble the original connector and screw in a 1/4-20 adapter. Then screw into the ronin-a chess plate.

    Hey buddy, great tutorial!! How come you use the quick release system? Is it quicker to setup/balance when taking on and off the Ronin?
    Also do you have any links to the handle grips you use please?

    • @thefilmpoets
      @thefilmpoets  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      DJP Wanderlust Productions the quick release at the bottoms is so I can remove the extension handle quickly. It can also be mounted to a tripod head if needed.
      Here’s how to do the handles -
      Get this plate for the ronin-s, remove the focus ring and put this on. - amzn.to/2SIgL6g
      You can add this to the bottom - amzn.to/2lOd8Nm
      Get this handle, remove the screws in the back - amzn.to/2E5zWP6
      Screw this into the handle and then screw the handle onto the plate that you added - amzn.to/2E7Zco3

    • @thefilmpoets
      @thefilmpoets  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jose Soto I don’t think the focal length of a drone would be long enough. I’ve seen several people try this at 50mm and it’s not the same effect. 100mm is key and the vertical movement is important.
