    For someone who (a) has never commented on TH-cam videos and (b) can barely draw a stick figure, every single one of your videos is so inspirational to me! I have attempted the Sweet Little Bunny and Tiny Chickadee with your guidance, and couldn't BELIEVE I was able to do it!! A true testament to your teaching style!! Thank you so much! I will be trying the Spring Bluebird next!

    A very nice, detailed tutorial. Thank you very much for sharing this. It inspired me to paint one of these myself - a first of this kind of bird for me. And hi, Ralphie. :)

    This is very sweet. I bought these post cards with the intention of sending my Nanna regular paintings with messages of love written by my children- her great grandchildren- so special - as she lives far away from us.
    It is autumn for us now but I can’t resist this beautiful piece of spring. Thank you again for sharing and providing alternative colour mixing as colour theory is something I’m still learning. I’ll be getting these art is for everyone paints but it is something I need to save up for, so for now I’ll enjoy them through your videos ☺️

    thank you so much Kateri............I love to watch your videos and learn so much...........just some quick questions........when you were painting the body of the bluebird, you mentioned that you can use white watercolor paint and some yellow ochre, and then you mentioned to add a bit of cobalt blue, to grey it out a bit.............is the neutralizing of the color because blue and orange are compliments and will neutralize each other, and that since you have yellow for part of the body of the bird, since yellow is "part" of orange (ie red and yellow), the blue added to the yellow ochre will grey it out a bit?.................this is something that comes up in workshops that I've taken or are taking, and I'm not sure that I really understand the basic concept..............is it that when you mix any two colors from different sides of the color wheel (ie one from the warm half, with one from the cool half of the wheel) that you will neutralize the colors? (rather than only thinking of the "traditional" compliments ie blue-orange, yellow-violet, and red-green)....................I've taken your luminous watercolor mixing class on crafts and learned so much and loved it..........but it's great to keep learning : )

      Colour mixing has rules, as you mention the commentaries are a great thing to know. But there is also intuition involved. I know that yellow ochre has a lot of brown in it and a bit warmer (orange)than most yellows . To mix a creamy ecru colour, yellow ochre with white would be too yellow. A tiny touch of Blue... tiny... brings it back to the greyish side of ecru. I believe there are nuances to colour mixing that only come from actually doing it... over and over again. The basic rules and the wheel are so helpful. But nothing replaces spending time mixing with your exact paints to see what they can do :)

    I am going to draw this lovely little bird, along with you this morning but I wonder do you pre wet your paints or not. Thank you.

    • @kateriewing
      @kateriewing  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I do not, with the handmade paints. They are precious and I use them sparingly. That said, they rewet so easily! I barely touch them and my brush is full of pigment. However, with my Winsor and Newton pans, I do pre wet them! I find it help release their lovely colours more easily.

    Hi Kateri--I carefully followed your wonderful instruction and had gotten to the spattering point when I had a big problem. My spatter went everywhere except where it was supposed to go even on me! I didn't think I was tapping too hard but apparently I was. Any words of wisdom before I make my second attempt? Help!

      Lynne Sheldon oh I’m laughing! This used to happen to me too.... and still does :) my only advice is to practice... with an apron on 💗💗💗

      Lynne Sheldon that happened to me a bit too. I found that if I wicked up some of the spots I didn’t want with a different brush using clean water and then dabbing with a paper towel, I could eliminate most of the undesirables. 😂
