    Thanks for the informative video. Just done this on my 06 forester while upgrading my leaky radiator to a Koyorad. Only issue I found was that since you have to refill via the dipstick, it took a while for it to fully drain down the filler neck in order to get an accurate reading on the dipstick.

    No such thing as a "lifetime" filter, you were right to change it.

    I have a big ol turboxs tmic. No need to take them off. Get a felxible house funnel. You can snake it down into the filler neck

    I've found that my trans starts shifting rough after about 30k miles and a change with Castrol Multivehicle Import smooths it out again.

    I'd stay away from valvolime multi vehicle atf. I'd used it before no problems, the most recent bottle I bought and used was an updated formula to meet more specs, and I've been having problems since. Going to do a couple drian and fills with subaru oem hoping that helps

      @@amc7902 That's shitty I'm sorry to hear that... You aren't the only one that's had that problem though. I know others who did the same thing that are trying to find a fix. After some research, apparently there are tons of forums talking about the foresters needing specific fluids and filters made by subaru or your transmission starts having problems finding gear or revving wrong or clunking on upshift. Lots have made the mistake apparently.. I can go find the forum again and link it below if you're interested.

    does it matter or affect your car if you change the trans spin on filter at the last drain or the first drain? Should you do it last or just change it on the first drain and keep draining it??

    Hello. Great content. I was wondering about fluid. The manual for a 2005 Forester XS only says use Dexron iii. Do you have a recommendation. Not finding this easily and getting mixed answers. Thanks.

    • @JRobling
      @JRobling  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If I remember correctly when I researched it I was having the same issues. As far as I can tell you can use Dexron iii and above because the new ones are backwards compatible. But then you have people not wanting to use the new ones because the manufacturer made the vehicle for that specific fluid. I'm fine using either.

    This isn't a flush. It's draining about 30% m/l of the transmission fluid. Most is inside the torque converter. Better than nothing though.

    Super late. Just picked up a 05 Forester with 94k. Whats the purpose of flushing your transmission 2 or 3 times with a 2 weeks span? I plan on taking mine to a shop to get flushed but I can't imagine paying 3 times. Thanks! 🤙

    • @michaelhamilton8107
      @michaelhamilton8107 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      To do a real flush, you need to do it multiple times like this. The old fluid won’t all come out on the first flush.

    • @Hongisking
      @Hongisking 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@watsnu2day Probably too late but what I do is take out the washer fluid tank and reach through to get to the dipstick. You can also use a fluid transfer pump to refill it through the dipstick hole. Better than taking the inter cooler out anyway

      Subaru says it's a lifetime filter, and odds are that you'll be OK if you never change it - probably 90% of foresteter drivers will never touch the ATF filter. But it can't hurt to change it, and having a fresh filter will ensure the new fluid stays cleaner, longer.
