I've had massive problems with aphids in Southland. I found parasitic wasps from bio-force a game changer. I've also tried spraying a saponin with essential oil, then the next week saponin mixed with strained food processed super hot chili. As well as spraying bacillus bacteria. It was a major issue so I hit it with the everything. How do harvest your fancy lettuce quickly without to much damage? I only quick or good, not both consistently. I find cutting gives me the least plant stress and best shelf life but it just eats time and the odd one has it's head half fall off.
Great tips thanks Craig! I cut the lettuce with a sharp serrated knife. The Victorinox ones are my favourite. Nice bright colours too helps prevent them getting lost. it's a balance between working quickly but also not doing too much damage to the plant so that it grows back. I usually harvest as quickly as possible then go back the next day to tidy up the plants and clear away the outer leaves which don't get picked.
We rarely get temperatures below 0 degrees C in winter. It’s pretty mild here. It does not snow. We have occasional frosts. Average lowest temperature in winter is probably around 5-6 degrees C
Fabulous informative video Georgia, please keep them coming 😊
Thank you! Will do!
