The reason she wears a mask is because she doesn't age. If people who knew her realized she didn't age someone would probably capture her and experiment on her trying to attain her "eternal youth".
Also because she's japanese and there is no japanese, white, or black people in this world. Sure you can argue some people look eureopean but they aren't. So she will stand out like a sore thumb. Kinda ike an alien coming to earth and looking just like a human except for their skin being blue.
To add, she is not from this world, so she has no resistance to diseases from this world, thus the mask also acted as filter to protect her from contacting foreign pathogen.
@@Sage16226 I don't think being a Japanese is a logical reason for her to wear a mask. Races exist everywhere, even in Anime or the world they're currently in. So it would be a lame excuse if this was the case. As for the alien example, there are monster creatures, Elves, human beasts and all type of things here and in the same city, how come she will stand out when such things exist? It's a good theory, but I don't think this is a convincing reason.
That part is actually a clever bit of foreshadowing in the novel. We aren't told Fitz is Sylphy, so all we get is this person who presumably never knew Rudeus saying "there's literally no way that could be possible"
If you remember in the first episode of the first season, the police said that the students involved at the scene of Rudy's truck accident were not found or disappeared, it is possible that the two people Nanahoshi was looking for were her two friends who she thought were also teleported. But after watching it again, one of the three was still there, meaning only Nanahoshi and the other one boy who were missing.
One of the students was still present. Nanahoshi and one of the male students vanished. She doesn't know that and is assuming both of them got summoned along with her.
Orsted has opps everywhere cause of his curse, remember? We learned from Man-God after Rudy was killed that one of Orsted's curses causes all living beings (and creatures) from this world to hate or fear him. Keyword "from THIS world", hence doesn't apply to Nanahoshi or Rudy.
Its not opps its a spoiler so here He has the ability to go back in time 200 years and restart and he has already about 100 times. Thats why he said to rudy who are you paul and zennith only have 2 daughters and to eris why are u here u should be with luke because in the real timeline orstead seen eris and luke greyrat married.
You can think of the mask as symbolism. It represents the wall she puts up around herself, to separate herself from others. It's a visual reminder of how she's detached and doesn't belong, and how it's by her own choice. When she figures out Rudeus is from Japan, she takes it off, talks and acts nicely and gets close to Rudeus because she has finally found someone like her, someone she can feel close to and relate to. She can show who she is to him. Once she sees that he's not receptive, she puts the mask on again. She's now clearly colder more distant and more business-like for the remainder of the scene.
That and slo because she doesn't age at all not even a day so if someone she saw 3,5,10, etc. years ago they would recognize she is not aging and try to run experiments on her to find out the secret to it. She would be hunted by nations.
Copying what I said in the replies of the top comment: A reasonable explanation for the mask is because she doesn’t want to catch diseases from this world which her body has not been accustomed to or immunized for. There could be an illness in this world that only gives normal residents of the world a small cold, but to her, due to not having an immune system that is accustomed to it, it could be the equivalent of cancer to her. Due to the fact that this world overly relies on magic for medical issues, they are very unreliable to deal with diseases that can’t be cured with healing/detox magic. Wearing a mask would help prevent catching a lot of diseases, as we know from COVID. Since there aren’t any cheap, accessible medical masks in this world she probably just uses this one and washes it when possible.
The World-Erase-You-idea is just Nanahoshi's idea (a wild guess) that she pulled from sci-fi, it's not proven whatsoever. Rudy commented on it saying that usually it's a trope from time-travel stories, not isekai.

There are different languages in the show remember In ep1 Rudy said it took him 6 months to full grasp the language there language that they use isn’t the same as Japanese if that makes sense lol Also mushoku is the only anime I’ve seen make up multiple new languages and have kept using them throughout the show
17:40 that's just her Theory. Rudeus wasn't supposed to be born, Orsted said Paul only had 2 daughters, by her Theory Rudeus shouldn't exist and the world would kill him, but it doesn't.
It's hard to tell because it's anime, but in the light novels, she calls Rudeus "Caucasian," which is why she assumed he was American or European. (Before discovering he was born here, she assumed he was transported like she was.) But she still looks Japanese. So, she really stands out. That may be the reason she wears a mask. But anime has always had this problem when portraying ethnicities. Unless the skin tone or hair is different, everyone's face looks the same. In the novel, Rudeus immediately notes she is Asian. Edit: Also, it's easy to forget that nobody in this world speaks English or Japanese. Silent Sevenstar is the English translation of Nanahoshi Shizuka. So anyone who knew her from the earth and knew Japanese and decent enough English would know these two names belonged to the same person. Lastly, to clear up something from before. The silent in "Silent Fitz" is the human tongue word for silent. Whereas the Silent in "Silent Sevenstar" is the English word for Slient. It's just that both of these are translated into English for us, the audience. No one in the world would get these words mixed up. In the original Japanese text, Silent Sevenstar is written in English and Silent Fitz is written in Japanese. As Rudeus narrates all this in Japanese to the reader.
3 languages actually so far that we've heard, Human God, Beast God, and Demon God tongue. We haven't heard Fighting God tongue yet but we know Rudy learned it with the other languages in Season 1
Whenever a character in the show speaks, we audibly hear it in in Japanese/English/etc because those are the languages its dubbed in. However, whenever a character speaks a different language, depending on the context, it shows that the characters are entering a new region (and thus, a different langauge will be spoken by the locals) or two characters are just simply having an exchange in a separate language then the one they were just using. Mushoku Tensei's world has various unique languages designed for the show/anime. @ Lee/Adorkable/DirNasty, the conversation between Rudy, Sylphie and Nanahoshi was NOT being spoken in Japanese, hence why the Japanese characters appeared in the subtitles so that Japanese viewers can understand whats being said just like us english sub watchers, which also they disappeared during the personal discussion between Rudy and Nanahoshi, because they're *actually* speaking Japanese. Also note that when Rudy said they should talk in the local language so Slyphie could understand, thats when the va's switched back to Japanese instead of *actually* continuing to speak the local language like they did in the beginning of the scene, but the characters themselves still are, if that make sense.

And she doesn't have to smell the dirty places or dirty people or deal with people staring at her exotic to the setting features. And it gives her an air of mystery and menace to keep people away. Important since he doesn't have any abilities just artifacts to protect herself.
Expanding on what she said about the world being morally dubious, as an exotic beauty, she is at high risk of being kidnapped and enslaved by nobles if she doesn’t hide her appearance. It’s just that kind of barbaric world.
I think both names are the names of the 2 guys who were with her when the accident happened. If I remember correctly the first episode of season 1, during the accident we know that one of them was safe. So we can assume that maybe only one of the 2 was also teleported. I guess she doesn't know, she just assumes because they were near her during the accident. Just a question for you, Rudeus and Nanahoshi had this accident, it happened at the same time, but it took 10 years for her to be summoned (Rudeus was 10 when the teleportation accident happened) , what do you think of the time gap between their 2 appearances in this world?
Either reincarnation is 10 years faster than cross-universe teleportation or she was held in a stasis somewhere until the time was right. Perhaps it took 10 years to accumulate the mana to finish the telportation. With reincarnation you only need to transfer the mind/soul. Teleportation moves real mass.
their departure in the real world is at the same time, but their arrival on the mushoku tensei world is not. Akito, the one that was teleported/summoned with them will arrive in the far far far future, long after Rudeus' story ends. anyway my theory is i think the reason that Rudeus situation is different is because he is already dead when they were teleported/summoned, so his soul is the only one that was teleported/summoned and entered Paul's son who is suppose to be born dead. i think he died saving Nanahoshi and Akito when they are about to get hit by the truck.

Don't forget, during the Orsted fight he said something along the lines of "Who are you? I can't see you. Paul only has two daughters." Cause (I assume) he can see the timeline.
*Watches Sylphie absolutely flip her SHIT at Nanahoshi without so much as a word in advance* 5mins later in post episode commentary: "Sylphie's always been... timid" 😂 In saying that, the VA's for Rudeus and Sylphie absolutely nailed it this episode. Both characters carry unseen traumas from their respective journeys that we don't see in their day to day dysfunctions, and both of them gave believable, outstanding performances of someone's brain hitting the fight or flight button out of nowhere.
I don't know wether the whole erase concept is real, if it is it may only affect Nanahoshi since hers and Rudy's conditions are different, Rudy is part of this world since he was born there, keeps growing and has mana. None of the previous is true for Nanahoshi. She wears the mask to hide her japanesse features which, logically, may drawn unwanted attention.
Why rudy isnt erased is hes born into this world and by being born not just born out of nowhere. In ln i supposr orsted explains pauls son was still born so he only has daughters no son. And nanahoshi explains how even dead people have mana the equivalent to energy in this world. Hence why rudy is still alive and not erased maybe. Maybe the world thinks its just mana roaming around.

She's also powerless without her artifacts, has distinctive rare black hair/eyes, a beautiful face and doesn't age. It's not hard to guess why if people considered where this is lol.
I don't know how to feel about this episode, on one hand I'm severely disappointed in Sylphy's reason for not telling Rudy who she really is but on the other I'm excited we are finally going to move forward with the main story and get some answers .... next fuckin season because episode 10 is the season finale 🤬😡😑
Zero spoilers aside because i also haven't read the light novel, but this is the first direct hint we've ever gotten that Hitogami is not this all-good, all-knowing being and that Orsted might not be an evil warlord, one of them might be lying and manipulative or their past are even more complex than that
Manga reader/partial ln reader(i myself haven't fully completed it) here, But you should keep your eye focused on 3 gods. Osted, hitogami, and lapplace. Lapplace plays a very important role.
I think you guys are great and got most of the important info, but here are couple of things already in the show I think it's worth mentioning. 1. Time lapse: Rudy is now 17 or 18 I think, but Nanohoshi said she was teleported 5 years ago, and she is alone, she is searching for the other two missing students. But Rudy's reincarnation somehow brought him to this world some ten years prior to Nanohoshi's arrival. 2. This is a case of bad translation/subtitle. What Nanohoshi said that triggered Sylphie was actually more like " I might have been the reason for the teleportation incident." not "I might have caused it" as the subtitle said. Tho this bad translation works well to be the trigger for Sylphie, but the original meaning is more accurate of the real situation. AND why Rudy was ok with that, because he is already connecting the dots, as he had more context from his Japanese conversation with her prior, and he can understand the implied meaning that Nanohoshi might be the reason, but didn't actively cause it. But Sylphie had no context, she just heard "I might have been the cause of the incident", she wouldn't be able to distinguish that from "I might have caused it" (similar to the translator I guess), so after initial shock, she flipps out, which caught Rudy off guard. Nanohoshi expected it and prepped for it though. I think this is such a crucial and good moment, but ruined by bad translation, because why would Nanohoshi say "I might have caused it." It makes so much more sense in Japanese that "I might have been the cause for it", which unfortunately still triggered Sylphie, but not Rudy. 3. Rudy recognized Nanohoshi to be from the same accident, but Nanohoshi does not know Rudy is the fat guy who try to push them away since his look is different. And when asked, Rudy was intentionally vague and skirted around without revealing that detail. He is keeping that to himself it so far it seems. 4. Aside from Orsted, when Nanohoshi traveled with him, they met another benefactor, who posited the theory that maybe Nanohoshi was summoned, and that caused the incident. That's why Nanohoshi started studying herself about summoning magic. But she is keeping the identity of that benefactor a secret for now, for one, it is not really relevant to Rudy, two, she seems to think telling him that info might not be the best idea. Guess we will find out. Notice how great and subtle the indirect characterizations are, Rudy is so dynamic throughout the season, but we see his PTSD when triggered, and how despite his intelligence and knowledge, he is not the fastest mind in the room. He didn't think Sylphie might flip and didn't react right away. And even afterwards, he didn't think why "Fitz" freaked out, for all he knows, Fitz is bodyguard to Ariel, not a victim of the teleportation incident, and when Fitz questioned how is it possible for Nanohoshi and Rudy can be from the same hometown, Rudy didn't connect the dot that Fitz knew him back then! Rudy is so oblivious sometimes, well, he has a lot on his plate for sure. On the other hand, Nanohoshi's 200 IQ but combined with the mentality and desires of high school girl is perfectly shown in this. She is very quick in realizing why Rudy had panic attack, nobody said anything, but she realized when she asked Orsted to spare him, Rudy didn't know it at the time. She is also very quick to figure out what had happened, and has constructed a systematic theory of what had actually happened. And she took on the role of explaining reincarnation vs. teleportation to Rudy. She also prepared for possible backlash from Fitz. She was quick to trust Rudy once she realized he is Japanese, but she is wary of Fitz. The three questions she prepared are all so strategic, she also knew what information about Orsted, the teleportation circles, and others are okay to share, and which are not relevant or not ok to share. All of which really shows how fiercely intelligent and calculative she is, I'm not sure if it is her nature (probably) or is that this sudden teleportation to an unknown world has made her this way. but on the other hand, her desire to go back, listing the food here is bad, and suggesting uniforms and blackboards to the university are at the same time so teenage high schoolers. She is such a well-written character in this scene. Sylphie on the sideline is also super interesting, the shot when Rudy first spoke actual "Japanese" not fantasy language shook both Nanohoshi and Sylphie visibly. Nanohoshi is excited, Sylphie is confused and somewhat scared. She is doubting herself. Is this still the same Rudy? How much do I not know about him. Then her timid and shy inquiry to what language are they speaking, shows the same Sylphie that we are used to and love so much. However, her PTSD and outburst so greatly showed the other side of her, and of her grief and sadness tugged away in secret. But when Rudy held her back, and told her Nanohoshi is also a victim. We can see her processing it, not accepting it right away. But after just seconds, given her good and kind nature, and that Rudy is the one telling her. She is very quick to trust and give them a chance to explain. Imagine if it was Eris here! Then as the other two continue their convo, she is cleaning up the mess. She is such a good soul.
I just want to correct this one as its obvious that its wrong. Your first point- rudy is 15. What you put and what this episode states confirms this. The mana disaster happens the day after rudy's 10th birthday. Its now been 5 years. He will soon be 16.

"I could've phrased it better" classic japanese clueless characters. She wears the mask to expose herself less to the world. the less the world interacts with her, the less chances the world might delete her. or at least that's what I got out of it.
Nothing will happen if she makes changes in the world. She only said that because she is a normie who know a little bit of sci fi, so she took time travel rules and tried to apply it to her situation. Rudious also picked up on it.
Been a while since I read this volume's light novel, but pretty sure that being erased for changing history thing is just her speculation from the sci-fi movies she saw.
Yeah, she pretty much said that here in the episode too. Which Rudy, I believe to himself, corrected that it was more of a trope for time travel stories, not sci-fi.
haven't read the LN and I don't want spoilers, but just a theory based on what Nanahoshi said about "ALTERING" Logically analyzing what she said, it is probably due to the fact that IF anyone sees her, it may count as ALTERING, which will render the world erasing them. (usually associated with time travel, altering alternate realities, like that of Marvel Infinity War, Chrono Cross where the protagonist was meant to be dead, but since he somehow survived on 1 timeline, EVERYONE is now fated to die even if you beat the game "normally", etc) I could be wrong, though (and i saw some posts that Silent Sevenstar literally means Shizuka Nanahoshi. I know Nana means Seven, so they probably are correct)
my theory is that she wear a mask probably cause she didn't get old... it would probably be suspicious, if someone who knew her saw her didn't age one bit...

Pretty interesting that it seems like when the truck hit him and he died, Rudy was reincarnated... but it wasn't until many years later (when he was around 10) that the Teleportation disaster happened (seemingly bringing Nanahoshi to the world). It seems like maybe seconds passing in our world was like years passing in this new world, or maybe when/if Rudy saved her from the truck, it wasn't until many years later in Japan that she transported to this new world. I wonder which it was and if it even matters. P.S. Orsted catching so much shade this episode... I think all three of them (Lee, Adorkable, and DIrector) have second-hand PTSD from that harrowing encounter... XD
Whenever they speak in Demon-God or Beast-God, which are the only other 2 languages from this world that Rudy knows, they add Japanese subtitles. He, of course, also knows how to speak Japanese. I think they were speaking Demon-God as I don't think Sylphie knows Beast-God. Then they go to actual Japanese, thus Sylphie doesn't understand. Then they eventually switch to Human-God, which is also Japanese cause it's the most commonly spoken language in the series.
if you remember, first time orsted was introduced he was walking along on some mountain tops... dragons attacking him and he questioned "huh wtf is going on there" at the time the mana destruction was happening or happened. and then said "oh well, i'll find out when i get there" Then we got the info from man-god(hitogami) that he cant see what orsted is doing at any time... so how come he "knows" that orsted caused that? Lots of BS coming from man-god is all i see.
5:50 they are not speaking japanese, its the made up language of the humans in mushoku tensei the author literally created 2 different languages human tongue and demon god tongue, there are more like beat god and sky folk tongue but i dont think we will hear those.
I can't stop imagining memes with Silphy like that... Pepe punching one, the Evangelion hospital scene with Rudy, or the classic "tantos idiomas en el mundo y solo entiendes a put-zos"-
I vaguely remember that on the episode where Rudeus walks in on that gramdpa of Eris in the tower. He pointed out the anomoly in the sky. I think it was the build up to "her" teleportation that was triggered at the moment Rudeus and Eris was sent to the demon continent. There must have been a time dilation that cause her to come to the world later. Just a theory. I don't do well reading manga.
The first thing that endeared me to this series way back from the very beginning was the use of unreliable narration (not sure if that's technically the correct usage of that concept but it's adjacent regardless). When Rudy learns about the rules of magic and is disappointed, only to immediately prove that the rules are wrong. Knowledge is treated with a respect I've never seen in any other story, where nobody actually knows anything, they only understand what either they or others have found consistent. This is repeated with Nanahoshi/Silent Sevenstar here with her thoughts in regards to her presence in this world. She doesn't actually know how or why she arrived or what the rules are. How could she? She's a Japanese teen with some exposure to fiction and with nothing else to rely on the possibilities are potentially terrifying. And the only way to know whether she's right or wrong risks her existence. So she has to live as timidly as possible to not risk judgement from some potentially imaginary cosmic janitor.
Imagine Rudy didn't save her from the truck-kun what'll happen to her? Reincarnate like Rudy so the mass teleportation incident won't happen? I think Rudy still got some responsible for the incident.
In Mushoku Tensei there are multiple different languages. Human Tongue, Demon God Tongue, Sky God Tongue, Dragon God Tongue, Beast God Tongue, Fighting God Tongue, and Ocean God Tongue. Human Tongue is introduced in S1 episode 1 when Rudy is a baby, Paul and Zenith are speaking it. Demon God Tongue is used during the Demon Continent Arc. Beast God Tongue is used during the episodes in the Forest when Rudy was imprisoned with Gisu. This is the first time he has spoken ACTUAL Japanese in this world with Nanahoshi.
Very sus. He doesn't even know what the dragon god is doing, so how is he so sure that the dragon god is responsible for the mass teleportation. That's pure bs

That part is actually a clever bit of foreshadowing in the novel. We aren't told Fitz is Sylphy, so all we get is this person who presumably never knew Rudeus saying "there's literally no way that could be possible"

But after watching it again, one of the three was still there, meaning only Nanahoshi and the other one boy who were missing.
One of the students was still present. Nanahoshi and one of the male students vanished. She doesn't know that and is assuming both of them got summoned along with her.

Orsted has opps everywhere cause of his curse, remember? We learned from Man-God after Rudy was killed that one of Orsted's curses causes all living beings (and creatures) from this world to hate or fear him. Keyword "from THIS world", hence doesn't apply to Nanahoshi or Rudy.

You can think of the mask as symbolism. It represents the wall she puts up around herself, to separate herself from others. It's a visual reminder of how she's detached and doesn't belong, and how it's by her own choice.
When she figures out Rudeus is from Japan, she takes it off, talks and acts nicely and gets close to Rudeus because she has finally found someone like her, someone she can feel close to and relate to. She can show who she is to him.
Once she sees that he's not receptive, she puts the mask on again. She's now clearly colder more distant and more business-like for the remainder of the scene.
That and slo because she doesn't age at all not even a day so if someone she saw 3,5,10, etc. years ago they would recognize she is not aging and try to run experiments on her to find out the secret to it. She would be hunted by nations.

A reasonable explanation for the mask is because she doesn’t want to catch diseases from this world which her body has not been accustomed to or immunized for. There could be an illness in this world that only gives normal residents of the world a small cold, but to her, due to not having an immune system that is accustomed to it, it could be the equivalent of cancer to her.
Due to the fact that this world overly relies on magic for medical issues, they are very unreliable to deal with diseases that can’t be cured with healing/detox magic.
Wearing a mask would help prevent catching a lot of diseases, as we know from COVID. Since there aren’t any cheap, accessible medical masks in this world she probably just uses this one and washes it when possible.
The World-Erase-You-idea is just Nanahoshi's idea (a wild guess) that she pulled from sci-fi, it's not proven whatsoever. Rudy commented on it saying that usually it's a trope from time-travel stories, not isekai.

17:40 that's just her Theory. Rudeus wasn't supposed to be born, Orsted said Paul only had 2 daughters, by her Theory Rudeus shouldn't exist and the world would kill him, but it doesn't.
It's hard to tell because it's anime, but in the light novels, she calls Rudeus "Caucasian," which is why she assumed he was American or European. (Before discovering he was born here, she assumed he was transported like she was.) But she still looks Japanese. So, she really stands out. That may be the reason she wears a mask. But anime has always had this problem when portraying ethnicities. Unless the skin tone or hair is different, everyone's face looks the same. In the novel, Rudeus immediately notes she is Asian.
Edit: Also, it's easy to forget that nobody in this world speaks English or Japanese. Silent Sevenstar is the English translation of Nanahoshi Shizuka. So anyone who knew her from the earth and knew Japanese and decent enough English would know these two names belonged to the same person. Lastly, to clear up something from before. The silent in "Silent Fitz" is the human tongue word for silent. Whereas the Silent in "Silent Sevenstar" is the English word for Slient. It's just that both of these are translated into English for us, the audience. No one in the world would get these words mixed up. In the original Japanese text, Silent Sevenstar is written in English and Silent Fitz is written in Japanese. As Rudeus narrates all this in Japanese to the reader.
Almost forgot that the Author literally created two unique languages for this series, much like Tolkien did, simply next-level.

Whenever a character in the show speaks, we audibly hear it in in Japanese/English/etc because those are the languages its dubbed in. However, whenever a character speaks a different language, depending on the context, it shows that the characters are entering a new region (and thus, a different langauge will be spoken by the locals) or two characters are just simply having an exchange in a separate language then the one they were just using. Mushoku Tensei's world has various unique languages designed for the show/anime. @ Lee/Adorkable/DirNasty, the conversation between Rudy, Sylphie and Nanahoshi was NOT being spoken in Japanese, hence why the Japanese characters appeared in the subtitles so that Japanese viewers can understand whats being said just like us english sub watchers, which also they disappeared during the personal discussion between Rudy and Nanahoshi, because they're *actually* speaking Japanese. Also note that when Rudy said they should talk in the local language so Slyphie could understand, thats when the va's switched back to Japanese instead of *actually* continuing to speak the local language like they did in the beginning of the scene, but the characters themselves still are, if that make sense.

If I remember correctly the first episode of season 1, during the accident we know that one of them was safe. So we can assume that maybe only one of the 2 was also teleported. Just a question for you, Rudeus and Nanahoshi had this accident, it happened at the same time, but it took 10 years for her to be summoned (Rudeus was 10 when the teleportation accident happened) , what do you think of the time gap between their 2 appearances in this world?
Either reincarnation is 10 years faster than cross-universe teleportation or she was held in a stasis somewhere until the time was right. Perhaps it took 10 years to accumulate the mana to finish the telportation.

their departure in the real world is at the same time, but their arrival on the mushoku tensei world is not. Akito, the one that was teleported/summoned with them will arrive in the far far far future, long after Rudeus' story ends.
anyway my theory is i think the reason that Rudeus situation is different is because he is already dead when they were teleported/summoned, so his soul is the only one that was teleported/summoned and entered Paul's son who is suppose to be born dead. i think he died saving Nanahoshi and Akito when they are about to get hit by the truck.

In saying that, the VA's for Rudeus and Sylphie absolutely nailed it this episode. Both characters carry unseen traumas from their respective journeys that we don't see in their day to day dysfunctions, and both of them gave believable, outstanding performances of someone's brain hitting the fight or flight button out of nowhere.
Anime onlys don't know about Slyphie and Paul having a fight.

I don't know wether the whole erase concept is real, if it is it may only affect Nanahoshi since hers and Rudy's conditions are different, Rudy is part of this world since he was born there, keeps growing and has mana. None of the previous is true for Nanahoshi.

Zero spoilers aside because i also haven't read the light novel, but this is the first direct hint we've ever gotten that Hitogami is not this all-good, all-knowing being and that Orsted might not be an evil warlord, one of them might be lying and manipulative or their past are even more complex than that

Aside from the fact he acts and sounds like a villian.
I think you guys are great and got most of the important info, but here are couple of things already in the show I think it's worth mentioning.
1. Time lapse: Rudy is now 17 or 18 I think, but Nanohoshi said she was teleported 5 years ago, and she is alone, she is searching for the other two missing students. But Rudy's reincarnation somehow brought him to this world some ten years prior to Nanohoshi's arrival.
2. This is a case of bad translation/subtitle. What Nanohoshi said that triggered Sylphie was actually more like " I might have been the reason for the teleportation incident." not "I might have caused it" as the subtitle said. Tho this bad translation works well to be the trigger for Sylphie, but the original meaning is more accurate of the real situation. AND why Rudy was ok with that, because he is already connecting the dots, as he had more context from his Japanese conversation with her prior, and he can understand the implied meaning that Nanohoshi might be the reason, but didn't actively cause it. But Sylphie had no context, she just heard "I might have been the cause of the incident", she wouldn't be able to distinguish that from "I might have caused it" (similar to the translator I guess), so after initial shock, she flipps out, which caught Rudy off guard. Nanohoshi expected it and prepped for it though. I think this is such a crucial and good moment, but ruined by bad translation, because why would Nanohoshi say "I might have caused it." It makes so much more sense in Japanese that "I might have been the cause for it", which unfortunately still triggered Sylphie, but not Rudy.
3. Rudy recognized Nanohoshi to be from the same accident, but Nanohoshi does not know Rudy is the fat guy who try to push them away since his look is different. And when asked, Rudy was intentionally vague and skirted around without revealing that detail. He is keeping that to himself it so far it seems.
4. Aside from Orsted, when Nanohoshi traveled with him, they met another benefactor, who posited the theory that maybe Nanohoshi was summoned, and that caused the incident. That's why Nanohoshi started studying herself about summoning magic. But she is keeping the identity of that benefactor a secret for now, for one, it is not really relevant to Rudy, two, she seems to think telling him that info might not be the best idea. Guess we will find out.
Notice how great and subtle the indirect characterizations are,
Rudy is so dynamic throughout the season, but we see his PTSD when triggered, and how despite his intelligence and knowledge, he is not the fastest mind in the room. He didn't think Sylphie might flip and didn't react right away. And even afterwards, he didn't think why "Fitz" freaked out, for all he knows, Fitz is bodyguard to Ariel, not a victim of the teleportation incident, and when Fitz questioned how is it possible for Nanohoshi and Rudy can be from the same hometown, Rudy didn't connect the dot that Fitz knew him back then! Rudy is so oblivious sometimes, well, he has a lot on his plate for sure.
On the other hand, Nanohoshi's 200 IQ but combined with the mentality and desires of high school girl is perfectly shown in this. She is very quick in realizing why Rudy had panic attack, nobody said anything, but she realized when she asked Orsted to spare him, Rudy didn't know it at the time. She is also very quick to figure out what had happened, and has constructed a systematic theory of what had actually happened. And she took on the role of explaining reincarnation vs. teleportation to Rudy. She also prepared for possible backlash from Fitz. She was quick to trust Rudy once she realized he is Japanese, but she is wary of Fitz. The three questions she prepared are all so strategic, she also knew what information about Orsted, the teleportation circles, and others are okay to share, and which are not relevant or not ok to share. All of which really shows how fiercely intelligent and calculative she is, I'm not sure if it is her nature (probably) or is that this sudden teleportation to an unknown world has made her this way. but on the other hand, her desire to go back, listing the food here is bad, and suggesting uniforms and blackboards to the university are at the same time so teenage high schoolers. She is such a well-written character in this scene.
Sylphie on the sideline is also super interesting, the shot when Rudy first spoke actual "Japanese" not fantasy language shook both Nanohoshi and Sylphie visibly. Nanohoshi is excited, Sylphie is confused and somewhat scared. She is doubting herself. Is this still the same Rudy? How much do I not know about him.
Then her timid and shy inquiry to what language are they speaking, shows the same Sylphie that we are used to and love so much. However, her PTSD and outburst so greatly showed the other side of her, and of her grief and sadness tugged away in secret. But when Rudy held her back, and told her Nanohoshi is also a victim. We can see her processing it, not accepting it right away. But after just seconds, given her good and kind nature, and that Rudy is the one telling her. She is very quick to trust and give them a chance to explain. Imagine if it was Eris here! Then as the other two continue their convo, she is cleaning up the mess. She is such a good soul.
I just want to correct this one as its obvious that its wrong.
Your first point- rudy is 15. What you put and what this episode states confirms this. The mana disaster happens the day after rudy's 10th birthday. Its now been 5 years. He will soon be 16.

Logically analyzing what she said, it is probably due to the fact that IF anyone sees her, it may count as ALTERING, which will render the world erasing them.

Pretty interesting that it seems like when the truck hit him and he died, Rudy was reincarnated... but it wasn't until many years later (when he was around 10) that the Teleportation disaster happened (seemingly bringing Nanahoshi to the world).
It seems like maybe seconds passing in our world was like years passing in this new world, or maybe when/if Rudy saved her from the truck, it wasn't until many years later in Japan that she transported to this new world. I wonder which it was and if it even matters.
P.S. Orsted catching so much shade this episode... I think all three of them (Lee, Adorkable, and DIrector) have second-hand PTSD from that harrowing encounter... XD

I think they were speaking Demon-God as I don't think Sylphie knows Beast-God. Then they go to actual Japanese, thus Sylphie doesn't understand. Then they eventually switch to Human-God, which is also Japanese cause it's the most commonly spoken language in the series.

I vaguely remember that on the episode where Rudeus walks in on that gramdpa of Eris in the tower. He pointed out the anomoly in the sky. I think it was the build up to "her" teleportation that was triggered at the moment Rudeus and Eris was sent to the demon continent. There must have been a time dilation that cause her to come to the world later. Just a theory. I don't do well reading manga.

The first thing that endeared me to this series way back from the very beginning was the use of unreliable narration (not sure if that's technically the correct usage of that concept but it's adjacent regardless). When Rudy learns about the rules of magic and is disappointed, only to immediately prove that the rules are wrong. Knowledge is treated with a respect I've never seen in any other story, where nobody actually knows anything, they only understand what either they or others have found consistent. This is repeated with Nanahoshi/Silent Sevenstar here with her thoughts in regards to her presence in this world. She doesn't actually know how or why she arrived or what the rules are. How could she? She's a Japanese teen with some exposure to fiction and with nothing else to rely on the possibilities are potentially terrifying. And the only way to know whether she's right or wrong risks her existence. So she has to live as timidly as possible to not risk judgement from some potentially imaginary cosmic janitor.

ISEKAI LANGUAGE ❓🤔⁉️
In Mushoku Tensei there are multiple different languages. Human Tongue, Demon God Tongue, Sky God Tongue, Dragon God Tongue, Beast God Tongue, Fighting God Tongue, and Ocean God Tongue. Human Tongue is introduced in S1 episode 1 when Rudy is a baby, Paul and Zenith are speaking it. Demon God Tongue is used during the Demon Continent Arc. Beast God Tongue is used during the episodes in the Forest when Rudy was imprisoned with Gisu. This is the first time he has spoken ACTUAL Japanese in this world with Nanahoshi.
