Joey made it to the final four because he won Vegas. Blaney got in because he won Martinsville. Win and in has a HUGE impact on the outcome and that IS one of the main issues with the current format.
I’ll say this. They can keep win and your in for the playoffs. But when it comes to the regular season no. Or keep it only the top 20 in points can get a win and your in
16:56 Look at 2011. Tony Stewart had an average regular season. He would then go on to win 5 out of the last 10 races on the season. Put himself into position to where he won the championship by one point in the final race. THAT ladies and gentlemen is the game 7 moment that NASCAR so desperately wants. and you could have this with the right format. If that means combining what we had in 2011 with stage points and whatever other gimmicks they want. While I'm more in favor of season long points, I understand we'll never see that again, but anything to get away from how we're crowning a champion currently I'm in favor of. Just don't make it worse and don't pretend what we're doing now is fine.
I think you can do it 1 point per position and give 10 extra points for winning since nascar wants to award winning so much and give 1 point for leading a lap and most lap and maybe add 2 points for pole

I totally hear you. Your point about the bad 2 races made me think of Jimmie Johnson and Tony Stewart in 07 and 11. We probably don't see JImie Johnson win 4 in a row at the end of the season heading into homestead and we don't see Tony win 5 of the 10 to tie Edwards, winning by tiebreker. Plus. you will be mathematically eliminated at some point if you fail to perform. I'm all for a return to the Chase format. I think with this point system, it would probably come down to 3 drivers almost every season.
They should do chase format, or they should make the current playoff format the same but take away the win and your in. They should also make the round of 4 3 races fr
Long season championship or a playoff system. The chase format is a playoff system with 10 exhibition race. Long season championship is the best way for crown a champion.

IMO, NASCAR was more popular before the points changed in 2004. All NASCAR has to do is run it back, but it'll never happen because they want to be more like stick and ball sports.
I think nascar should mix old playoff system with new…. 10-12 drivers make it… 10 race playoff format… but after 5 races they eliminate half the field, then let the remaining drivers go for broke the last 5 races… you get playoff elimination & a points battle that’s fair… it should also reward consistency & dominance… it’ll also put pressure on the regular season as well with the win & you’re in aspect… you can’t rest on just winning, you have to be good too… you can’t be 14th (Joey Logano) & know you’re in the playoffs just becuz you won a plate race… bring back consistency, I think this format can do that
26 Race season Stages and Stage points remain 2+ Race Wins lock in for Chase Race win is 5 or 10 Chase points Chase is 10 Races Only 12 Drivers can Qualify for Chase Elimination after 5th race Only 6 can qualify for second half 2 race wins lock into second half Points reset after elimination 5 or 10 points for race wins Most points earned in second half wins Championship Idk, I tried.

Keep win and in during the season no matter how many different winners plus two drivers on points. Keep the rounds but instead of being eliminated give points based on average finish in the round.

Imagine with the top 16 or top 12 drivers in the playoffs with no eliminations and in the final race you have 5-6 guys within 20-30 points of each other. That would be insane and at this point it would be possible if they added more points for winning
16:23 - I’m back and forth on eliminations. Leaning more towards eliminating eliminations. I will note though in my proposed format William Byron would have been eliminated after race 3. Without it he would have ended up finishing 2nd to Christopher Bell.
No what bothered me was Bowman getting docked his spot being 1.2 pounds underweight at Charlotte Roval after flying over a stupid curb then Joey got in... That's was what started the Joey controversy for me
I'm old school so I prefer them going back to the original point system during the Winston cup era but if you want a playoff format then just return to the 2004 chase for the cup format. Top ten battle during the last ten races of the year.
Make Bonus Points Great Again: +1pt for leading a lap, +5pts for leading the most laps. NASCAR is bent on replicating 1992, but the strategic significance of bonus points have been completely neglected.
Hear me out, keep the 16 driver field, top 10 in points guaranteed into the playoffs, other 6 spots filled off of win and you’re in or points if not 16 winners. 12 race playoffs, 4 rounds, 3 races each round. No win and you advance, strictly points based and points do not reset with each round. Also top 10 in regular season standings are given bonus points at start of playoffs. All rounds are 3 races and 4 drivers are eliminated based on points. Championship round is 3 races and 4 drivers, highest points driver wins
It takes one race for Nascar to make changes, and that race was Martinsville. Don't know what's going to happen but I expect NASCAR to say something in December or January.
I feel like 3 race, 3 race, then 4 races with 8 drivers would work, larger size, and I feel like 4 races would be better than 3. Def could be tweaks, but just want to get something out there.
I think how it should be either the old chase format or mix both the playoffs and the chase format. So 12 drivers in the playoffs no win you are in, no championship 4 and no one race to crown the champion, and no multiple elimination. So it works 12 drivers in the playoffs halfway through or close to halfway one elimination/ cut off after you have 8 drivers going for the championship and the 8 drivers in has however many races left in the season to win the championship. So if because theirs no one race to crown a champion you can win the championship either in the last race or a race or two. My format makes results and wins meaningful and awards a proper champion instead of where Joey won at Las Vegas to be locked in the championship 4 and he doesn't have to worry about Homestead and Martinsville and then ending up winning the championship because it's one race to crown a champion even if you don't deserve it
I think they should keep the win and in rule but instead of giving the winners races to do whatever and still advance. Give the win and ins' a "competitive race ban" like if logano wins the first round in the round of 12, he then gets banned from the 2 next races til the start of the next round of 8. If it is imolemented like this, it forces new winners to advance so everyone has to fight for a checkered flag. Then if logano makes it to rd of 8, he has to win 1 of the 3 rounds of 8 to advance so the ones winning alot have meaning to them. Points are gone and it forces race wins to be worth something greater.
Note: if logano won the 2 race of round of 12 then he will be banned along side another driver who might have won the first playoff race. The points when i mesnt gone, were that they would be needed but not as majorly because race wins are worth more to advance than finish 2nd all 3 rounds in a playoff race
I think if you want to reward drivers for winning and being consistent then the regular season champ and the driver with the most wins should get a bye for the first round of playoffs.
I’m thinking if we have to have a playoff format. Here’s my proposal. Top 12 makes the playoffs. No more win and you’re in. After the third and sixth race in the playoffs, we cut down the field to the final four. Final four drivers compete in the final four race to the finish, highest points finisher wins championship.
I think the idea that Eric Estep just made should be apart of nascar but win & your in leaves the playoffs stays and they go bring back the old Winston cup points era or bring back the Chase for the cup one of those things and the championship gets decided in 3 races instead of 1 race
Radman, you’re wrong about the Byes and the eliminations. Remember that playoff points would carry over to a final 3 race round. This brings legitimacy to the final round
Uh, win-and-in is definitely an issue. It denies playoff berths to people trying to point their way in and had comfortable margins who get unlucky, people who actually have a chance of doing something in the playoffs. Just look at Larson missing the Final 4 on points because of that.
I like Eric’s format the most. Win and ur in needs to go... you win the Daytona 500 and you can basically chill for the entire regular season. Don’t like that. Keeping it for the playoffs is the compromise of keeping it (but not fully). I also don’t mind having a 3 race championship round. It removes a one race shootout that may favor one driver in particular and keeps the points tight, a 10 race format allows the championship to be decided a race or 2 in advance which we all know nascar wants to avoid going forward.
They change It ... A driver most people don't like wins ... People get mad and call for change ...They change It again ... A driver most people don't like wins again ... People get mad and call for change again ... They change It once again ... A driver most people don't like wins once again ... People get mad and call for change once again ... They change It once more time ... A driver most people don't like wins once more time ... People get mad and call for change one more time ... And so on ...
If NASCAR HAS to be playoffs and HAS to include eliminations, then it should be mathematical. It has to be mathematically impossible to get enough points to win a championship.
If they wanna do like other stick and ball sports then let’s do it like other stick and ball sports Driver Champion basically is the same as getting MVP of a sport. (Full season points) Owner Champion basically is the same as teams winning the World Series, Super Bowl etc. (Playoff Format) Manufacture Champion should just be which team wins the most races.. Basically like every other sport
I just want the 2011-2013 Chase Format back. Not hard to do. Still have playoffs for excitement/Sports gambling but can go back to real championships. Logano is one of my favorite drivers and the Phoenix race itself was awesome, but I can see why everybody complained. Just this once NASCAR please listen. Oh and Mike Forde? Sincerely a real human fan, not a bot.
Knockouts and eliminations need to go away. A driver can put himself in a position to win a title only to have it erased by some manufactured entertainment isn't true racing. 10 races among 10 drivers should decide the title. In those 10 races you should have plate races, road courses short tracks and intermediates to cater to all types of drivers and sum the season up.
I kinda liked the idea Steve Letarte and Denny Hamlin came up with on the Denny's podcast. 10 race playoff, with 7 races to get into the Championship 4 which is the final 3 races and it's on points, not win and you're in. Denny also mentioned doubling playoff points to reward the winning more, which I'm all for. There were only two things that I didn't like. The first was "you have to win to get in the playoffs." I think it should be the top 16 in points so that it's the top 16 teams throughout the season. The problem with "win and you're in the playoffs" is that you still can end up with a 30th place team winning and on the flip side, a top 5 team in points not getting win in the frist 26 races. That's what makes that idea flawed. Top 16 guarantees "beating the best to be the best." The second thing I didn't llike was the "heads up" for in the final round. I still think they should be seeded by playoff points, BUT by the "Championship Points" (formerly playoff points during the regular season) scored during the playoffs only. So, if in those 7 races, Larson wins 2 races and 4 stages, he'd have 28 pts to start the Championship Round.and if Bell had 3 stage wins, he'd have 6 pts to start the round. The reason I say that is becaues it's possible that a team or 2 could clinch getting in with a race to go and basically just show up on the 7th race if they have nothing to race for. If you seed the points I meniotned, then every race matters because those points could be the difference between winning the title and losing it. Finally, I have my own addition to this idea. That is the return of bonus points for Most Laps Led @ 3 pts and maybe even 1 playoff pt. Increase the value of leading the races. Imagine what that would do for the strategies at the drafting tracks if you knew there were points to be gained, especially a playoff point. Bye-bye fuel mileage racing! They couldn't afford to just let someone else lead laps like that because you can't just give points away. The other could be just for leading a lap and maybe even for pole, both 1pt each, but no playoff points for those. Doing these simple things would make all the stages and races throughout the entire season have more value and having a points battle at the end gives you something to watch the entire time. I've always thought it was stupid to make this big fuss about points for the entire season, only to remove them completely for the final race. It just made no sense and it takes away from that final race. Keeping points in the mix and having it be over 3 races is so much more intriguing as a fan. I think if they went with everything mentioned here, it would be a winner for a playoff format. It sounds pretty good to me and I'm not even a playoff advocate.
Umm because points no longer matter in the final race is the one that finishes the best of the four that wins the championship....why are you making it more complicated??? Your way is boring and btw winning stages already rewards playoff points and many drivers use strategy to win the stage vs the race depending on their situation...
This wouldn't be horrible if they are absolutely insistent on a multi round playoff. But it should only be the top 10 in points or maybe even less, 16 is way too much.
the win and move on to the next round of the playoffs is what needs to go. that will reward consistancy. also the ONE EACE CHAMPIONSHIP HAS GOT TO GO. NO MORE EXCUSES
Oh man, all hail Penske! If Nascrap changes the playoff system, it proves that Penske is the best ever! Be proud Penske, the losers couldn't defeat you, so they had to cry to the ref! Wear it as a badge of honor 🎖!
I'm in the minority but I like the playoffs i quit watching in the cot era because everything was so bland and boring and it was the playoffs and excitement that brought me back! Now nascar is my favorite sport.. i think they just need to limit communication more like only let the driver talk to their spotter during the race nobody else and if there is any funny business bring on huge fines.. but I think it needs to stay the same!
3 races remain in f1 . Max lead by almost 3 full races . If Max gets points in Las Vegas and Lando doesn't . Congratulations Max on winning the drivers championship with 2 races remaining . Making the last 2 races remaining not that interesting ? NASCAR has the playoffs and the Championship race . A champion is crowned . If you try to use just points . They did that in 2016 but Talladega 2016 playoff race where Joe Gibbs racing points their way into the next race while the others tried to win . I will use keep it simple stupid . 40 points for a win , 1 point for leading a lap , and 1 point for most laps lead . No stages at all or playoff format . Exiting Martinsville race 35 of 36 . Points leader Josh Reddick and second place Chase Elliott -45 points behind . Congratulations to Josh Reddick winning the championship . Phoenix race 36 doesn't mean anything but a joy ride for the champion . Will that be better ?

It removes a one race shootout that may favor one driver in particular and keeps the points tight, a 10 race format allows the championship to be decided a race or 2 in advance which we all know nascar wants to avoid going forward.
Nah There gonna make it even worse 💀
They change It ... A driver most people don't like wins ... People get mad and call for change ...They change It again ... A driver most people don't like wins again ... People get mad and call for change again ... They change It once again ... A driver most people don't like wins once again ... People get mad and call for change once again ... They change It once more time ... A driver most people don't like wins once more time ... People get mad and call for change one more time ... And so on ...
Even with a ten race format you could have race manipulation. If someone needs 2-3 more points in the final race what is stopping race manipulation.
If NASCAR HAS to be playoffs and HAS to include eliminations, then it should be mathematical. It has to be mathematically impossible to get enough points to win a championship.
If they wanna do like other stick and ball sports then let’s do it like other stick and ball sports
Driver Champion basically is the same as getting MVP of a sport. (Full season points)
Owner Champion basically is the same as teams winning the World Series, Super Bowl etc.
(Playoff Format)
Manufacture Champion should just be which team wins the most races..
I really just want a chase format again or a season long format. That’ll solve a lot of problems then there’s a deserving champion.
Chase still isn't deserving it's a less gimmicky gimmick.
We should just go back to the original chase b4 the wildcard and stuff
I absolutely agree with you
win and you're in should be gone completely, not just for regular season, that would fix the issue
It’s pretty easy to see what happened. Logano was eliminated in the round in the round of 12.
Remove win and advance as well. Make it only about points.
Get rid of win and your in. Give them something like 50 extra points over 2nd instead. 20 points toward the playoffs.
Get rid of the round of 16 and start with 12 with 10 races left and every race lowest finisher is out until the last race 3 drivers duel it out
Knockouts and eliminations need to go away.
Top 16 guarantees "beating the best to be the best."
The second thing I didn't llike was the "heads up" for in the final round.
Also if you are the overall points leader after the regular season and the 7 race round you should get an automatic bid to the final
The next gen car is 100% the cause of all this and exposed it!
No they’re not, this is nascar we’re talking about they’re not gonna do anything, I’ll believe it when I see it
the win and move on to the next round of the playoffs is what needs to go. that will reward consistancy. also the ONE EACE CHAMPIONSHIP HAS GOT TO GO. NO MORE EXCUSES
And to think,Matt Kenseth is the cause of all of this.😭😭😭😭
2011-2012 Best Format
McDowell
So you're saying we weren't all BOTS😂
NASCAR at the end of the day should be impartial and not pull for anyone
Exactly why charters, and the top 35 rule before, should have never existed in the first place.
I lost interest in this playoff after Harvick won 10 races and didnt race for the championship
Bull! Shoulda done it last year blaney was just as undeserving
Don't make the final 1 race

You talk a lot. But you dont know anything about the upcoming change. So bla bla not to much please
Phony playoff debate and TV schedule release. Playoffs may becoming less phony and more cable races. What a day.
Just stop watching, and Watch F1 or WEC

The comments saying NASCAR should listen to what Estepp suggests should just stop talking lol. NO eliminations, no final 4s. 3 races is NOT enough. to determine a champion.
Well it’s the best we’ll ever get. There’s no chance in hell they ever go back to a full season format and if you think they would you are delusional.
@@Astronomicle You're delusional just for saying that. A full season format would 100% be much better but that's NOT what I said. I said 3 races should not be a deciding factor.. Should be at least 5.
