When you started mentioning your stressors it triggered two memories of when my ball python "Monty" got lost in my apartment. I wanted to raise it so it felt free & roam around in a way & not just live in a cage. He would love to take baths in shallow water in the tub 🛁. One day he was on my living room carpet and he disappeared while I was distracted with friends and I couldn't find him FOR A WEEK! I thought I lost him forever. Then one day I'm opening my dishwasher and the steam rises up into my face and there is my snake, climbing between the countertop and the dishwasher in this little crack. 2nd time, I was getting a new larger used tank and had to make a temporary lid. With weights and a window screen. Well he "the mellow trickster he is" found a way to sneak off for a day until I hear my girlfriend let out a sequel from upstairs. I wish you were my teacher in middle or high school. The way you describe things and your cadence make it so much easier to pay attention, listen, and learn! You are the coolest channel ive stumbled upon on tik tok (i hate using tik tok). I am so glad you have a youtube!
Omg I love snake evolution thank you for covering this! My favorite tidbit about snake genetics is that they also evolved duplicates/mutations of Hox genes which allowed them to have an elongated thoracic (chest) cavity. And what went with that was essentially ribs all down their body and really hecking long organs (the heart and lungs of a snake are so long in comparison to legged animals lmao). This is another key difference between snakes and lizards that I learned in my zoology courses: snakes are like 2/3 body and 1/3 tail, while lizards are 1/3 body and 2/3 tail (in a figurative sense).
This is one of my favourite videos, perhaps because I'm also a snake enthusiast and have a legless reptile at home myself. Great video (One thing tho: the snake's jaw doesn't unhinge. The jaw isn't connected at the middle, so they have no chin. They can therefore open up their mouth really big and use specific muscles on the different sides of their jaw to pull in their pray. Their cranium is also seperated, held together by veeery flexible ligaments)
I'm so glad you say "hypotheses" instead of "theories"... I've seen too many science education TH-camrs who still say "theory" when they really mean "hypothesis". In regular colloquial discussions, it's not a big deal to use them interchangeably. In science discussions, the distinction is REALLY REALLY IMPORTANT, especially in this current era where there is so much anti-science sentiment.
Best Quote of this year: Snakes grip way harder than they need to be while climbing trees. Like they’re going FUCK SHIT FUCK SHIT (the whole way up) - Not exact quote but Lindsay Nikole I love my Alfredo the ball python. 13:18
10:29 wait though.. they did an experiment with an artificial atmosphere with boosted oxygen and their fish and idk what else grew huge. So it can’t just be … whatever you just said, something-o-pods(?) who benefit from more oxygen.

So interesting! Our crew got access to an island in Brazil where no human is allowed, only snakes! The island is the house of two thousand golden lanceheads. They ended up there when the glaciers melted and sea levels rose; the island became separated from the Brazilian mainland. Of course, they got much smaller since then, but still, it's amazing to see the footage that we got of the snakes everywhere and how they manage to survive since there are no other mammals living there.
5:07 Snakes, contrary to popular belief, do not unhinge their jaw. Their lower jaw bones (mandibles), unlike most animals, are not fused together. "Instead, stretchy ligaments bind these moveable pieces of a snake’s jaw in place-until it’s time to dive into a big meal. Loosely joined at the back of the skull, their mandibles permit greater rotation than most animals. As a result, snakes can open their mouths wider than their bodies".
True story- my brother had a snake that he named wormy because he's a genius. Wormy was a little shit. He was meant to be a corn snake but he was so aggressive that we think he was maybe crossed with a rat snake. Lots of of lunging and biting. One day we went on holiday and sent wormy to live at some friends for a few weeks so that they could look after him. This friend accidently left wormies terranium open and the sucker slithered out. We thought that was it, goodnight wormy, God bless, may you rest in peace. BUT NO. One day, a good five years later, my friend was sat in his bedroom on his computer. He looked out his window, which overlooks his back garden, and in the trees he sees something long and thin moving. It was wormy and he. Was. HUGE. I can't describe the size of anything without exaggerating so I'm not gonna bother guessing the size, but he was a big boy. Wormy had been happily living in the wilds of South east London for half a decade, getting those natty gains and being a free-range bad boy. Weird side note - around this time, there were also lots of missing pet posters being put up in that area. Now I don't wanna take 2 and 2 and make five, but there is a chance, however slight, that my brothers snake was eating the neighbourhood dogs.

Another cool snake fact, snakes are really good at taking out metal gears... 😎
I found your channel recently and cant stop watching your videos! There so fun and have such great energy. Cant wait for your next video!
Thank you Lyn! And good luck with the move ❤
I wish you were my teacher in middle or high school. The way you describe things and your cadence make it so much easier to pay attention, listen, and learn! You are the coolest channel ive stumbled upon on tik tok (i hate using tik tok). I am so glad you have a youtube!
I LOVE YOUR VIDẞ THEY MADE ME WANT TO START STUDYING ZOOLOGY
HELL YEA YOU SHOULD
ß👍

I’m in love with your shirt I literally just bought it because it’s so amazing
I really enjoy how excited and passionate you are about every topic, and it has made me reeeeeeally consider becoming a zoologist!
Imagine walking through a forest and you see a snake fly right past your face 😂
I would immediately have a heart attack and never be heard from again😂
@@jenpink4298 no wonder 😂
As someone currently studying that sonic hedgehog pathway I’ve never heard it so perfectly simplified
Did you hear about a snake that lost in traffic court? It didn't have a leg to stand on.
This is one of my favourite videos, perhaps because I'm also a snake enthusiast and have a legless reptile at home myself. Great video
(One thing tho: the snake's jaw doesn't unhinge. The jaw isn't connected at the middle, so they have no chin. They can therefore open up their mouth really big and use specific muscles on the different sides of their jaw to pull in their pray. Their cranium is also seperated, held together by veeery flexible ligaments)
My mom has a severe phobia of snakes, so I love any refuge I can find to enjoy snakes! Thank you for the snakes! 😂
just bought my spooky specimens coloring book and i've never been so excited for an amazon package
Love your videos Lindsay!
When you said that you snake's name was Micro I was really hoping you would say that your sister's snake's name was Wave.
I love the honesty and you didn't cut out the spider situation!!!!!!
I laughed a little to hard at the glorious snake name, Susan. And the it hit me, the boa constrictor I had as a kid was named Hildur.
My snake’s name is Paarthurnax 🤓
@@ambersmith9694 that sounds so cool!! My snake used to be called Perseus with his old owner but I renamed him Clementine 🌞
Idk but you’re personality is interesting and honestly infatuating. You’re a pretty cool person that talks about things I enjoy listening to
I have been waiting for this so hard ❤❤❤
I love watching your videos! They're so educational and fun. I haven't missed a single video yet!
Best Quote of this year:
Snakes grip way harder than they need to be while climbing trees. Like they’re going FUCK SHIT FUCK SHIT (the whole way up)

I love my Alfredo the ball python. 13:18
I absolutely love how she uses the little whiteboard to edit relevant images onto it rather than drawing on it
10:29 wait though.. they did an experiment with an artificial atmosphere with boosted oxygen and their fish and idk what else grew huge. So it can’t just be … whatever you just said, something-o-pods(?) who benefit from more oxygen.
New here and binged pretty much all of it. I like that fact that even though she asked if she should sit for videos because a friend pointed it out. Still standing.
11:10 I’m sorry, what? 26 to 40 feet long is a very big gap which is worrying considering the shorter estimate is still 26 feet
Ooooo base guitar 🎸
Love your videos. Your energy makes learning about animals (one of my favorite hobbies) even more entertaining 🥰
where shirt link ?
The possibility of a bred snake that can slither, run, climb, swim and glide lives rent free in my head

Dying to see this bass now! It has officially been hyped!
Wait Sonic Hedgehog is the actual name of the gene? It's a technical term?
Nerds gonna nerd
@@playssp yes, yes we do
@@BaldAndCuriousnot so fun for the doctors who have to explain why a person's child has a deformed brain because of their sonic hedgehog gene
Just stumbled across the channel, love the work. I used to have a corn snake too, Liquid. Loved that little guy. Keep up the good work!

Well done! Well thought out and explained in a way that is interesting and fitting for the biologist and layman both. THAT is a talent indeed.
Been using some of the stuff you say to pair to my revision notes at uni. You are a brilliant educator please keep this up.
